How to beat Richmond next week

Featured Replies

I will back us to beat Richmond.

We had plenty of excuses in round 1 and 2.

This game will turn our season around.

I am in my bomb shelter now and am waiting for the prophets of doom and their collection of bricks to descend.

Won't be as bad as losing to Brisbane the way we did. Tigers aren't that bad a s a side. But the [censored] will hit the fan.

I reckon we'll go into half time with a slender lead, then we'll run out of puff. Again.

Shazza turncoats to the Demons?

I've tipped a win this week. Unless a further destabilising event occurs this week, I'm sticking to it.

Do you think "Mr Integrity" at AFL HQ, together with his mate Misfit have kept something else up their sleeves?

My optimistic side says, "surely we have some pride and will bounce back and beat the tiges by 30 points".

Unfortunately, that would require some senior players to provide leadership!

So do you have another idea?

No, I'm the classic "one trick pony" on my optimistic side but if I go to the darklands of my bitter side ... well that's another story.

If I was a betting man, I reckon Richmond by about 20 points. But their 6 worst players are really poor - possibly the worst in the league outside Giants and Suns.

If Chippa can blanket Reiwoldt and beat him like he usually does.

If Jordie, Bartram of Bail can run with Cotchin and keep him to 20 possessions.

This will go a long way to our victory.

IN our favour:-

Our defence is far batter than their attack.

They have no match up for Mitch Clark.

It could be a very interesting game, especially once we know how the Dees will ine up.

Well, we need to kick the ball - that round, oval thing - through our set of big sticks more than Richmond.

We also need to kick the red oval thing to other people wearing the same colour jumper.

should get a good price about the Dees, might find something to put on em

I'm tipping Richmond will better us by at least 2-3 goals a quarter, so my line is 48 points, and that is me being optimistic. Their midfield is too good for us, they also put in proper effort at periods during every quarter, where as we only do for maybe a little bit of the first half.

Going to be another ugly one unfortunately.

Interesting point, I wonder what the bookies will put up? Might be worth putting something on that.

Sacking Schawb and Connolly will see a tremendous improvement in our game IMO

They both should stand down. Schwab has clearly failed in his most important role. Attaching our club to Energy Watch has made us a bad joke and where the fook is our front of jumper sponsor. It's 2012 and we have a sponsorless jumper, not to mention those ridiculous blazers. As for Connolly, for gods sake do us all a favour and save the club your salary.

Yep, just got to love our supporters.

If there's a full moon this Friday then the tide will turn on Saturday and MFC are back in town

,we are fishes out at sea and we need to get back on terra firma and start playing football again

I doubt even dropping Joel Macdonald will save us. Maybe keep kicking the ball to Rance, that worked well for Collingwood.

Or start a half time brawl and produce Daisy Thomas for the 3rd quarter.

In all seriousness Neeld needs to inspire the players with some confidence now. Tough love is great, but he has to make the players believe they can actually play. We saw that in the first 15 minutes against West Coast where we moved the ball ok at times and pressured them. If we do that for the whole first quarter we'll be in front of richmond at quarter time. That would be a start.

Our Defence is better than theirs

Their forwards are better than ours

They cancel each other out

Our mids need to find some form because I rate the Tiges midfield as a fair way ahead of ours.

Play Dunn as a defensive forward to limit Deledios run off half back

At this stage Tiges for me but show me something boys

Reading some of the RFC forums - a lot of those posters have been seriously affected. They're so used to losing that many of them fear they might actually drop this match. I know their form hasn't been great, but a strong club should be preparing to roll us.

I might be a little sadistic, but taking a glance at the general "vibe" over at Richmond always makes me feel a bit better about the MFC. They've got to be the only club more mentally broken than us.

I'd like to suggest that a Win against the Tiges is more bennyficial to us than a win against the Doggies.

We can all see where we are at, & where we are not at. So for me a WIN this week, is crucial to our well being, within & without.

At the end of the year we Must get some more top Mids, to build on our deficiencies, but not just Mids, but better ones than everyone else recruits as well.

We have to sort out our 24+ Yr Olds now, to see who we keep and who we won't going forward.

I'm putting a heap on money on the Tigers this week, It's the only way i know to guarantee a Melbourne Victory. I'm taking one for the team

Whoa, Nasher, sensational.

I'd like to say that the Saints are equally as broken as a club if not moreso. They still haven't developed a belief from within they're fabric. Not the Doggies, nor Port, etc...

The believing clubs would have to be the Hawks, Bombers, Blues, Pies, Swans, Eagles, with the Cats slowly, cautiously learning belief...

Mark Neeld should show the playing list a film called "Zulu" with Michael Caine. Victory can be attained.

No doubt about their mids, but I'm not so convinced about their forwards. For instance, we delisted Miller. Was this a mistake?

Zulu was released before we won our last premiership!

It shows that a highly drilled, well structured and disciplined force with better weapons can defeat a massively superior opponent. Melbourne is badly drilled, poorly structured, undisciplined and has no weapons. I'm not sure how it would fit.

Simple! One on one football. Beat your man!

We have always played at our best this way. I hate the zone crap! Play tight and run.

Hahaha!! So true. I would still show it though...

We will not lose

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
