You can always blame the players. But are they really that good to begin with?

It comes back to the people that chose them and Melbourne seem to consistently pick the same type of player; weak reeds like Jack Watts and Cale Morton.

It's a very bland group of players that they have right now, and it comes back to recruiting. And the recruiting has been shocking.

Here comes the bandwagon of hate!

Jon Ralph went through our first round picks this morning from 2001 onwards and I felt like slitting my wrists.

Some people (Rudeboy mentioned it) will point to the shabby development of players at this club for the past 10 years but in truth it's a combination of rubbish development and recruiting.

The one that kills me is Jack Darling. More than any other. 'He's not a nice boy, he can't come here'. Makes me feel ill.

Whatever Neeld does, he will be an absolute tactical genius if he can get us winning more games than we lose.

Bland? Sorry Jack Watts hasn't got dreads, Dennis.

Sorry Sylvia broke his back in a marking contest and Jurrah has a few issues keeping him out.

What we have is a bunch of high draft picks that once again haven't been trained properly. They're unfit, unskilled and uneducated.

If you think Neeld can change that in a few months then you're as stupid as your bland jokes, Den.

I didn't hear Dennis saying we're bland when him and Bruce had a fest when we flogged Sydney by 78 points.

Morton is the one that kills me, I can live with Watts and I can understand Scully/Trengove (although not interviewing Martin was a disgrace) but the fact that Morton has been on the list so long yet cannot develop as a player or physically is what is so frustrating.

Still think he can be a very good player.

Anyone that says it's not the recruiting has rocks in their head. Of course we've also had poor development, so there's your double whammy, but we've also made terrible mistakes at the selection table.

I've seen one genuine superstar of the competition in my time following the Dees and that's just an astonishingly terrible result. And no, Stynes, Viney, Lyon and Schwarz weren't genuine superstars, they were a rung below. They were champions of our club, but not champions of the game. We don't have one player that drags wavering supporters through the gates. The diehards will always turn up, but I'd kill for a couple of superstars. Superstars win flags. In fact, I'd kill for a couple of A-graders let alone superstars.

That said, I'm also firmly of the belief that if you can develop 3 or 4 genuine A graders you can turn your list around very quickly. And I haven't given up hope that a few of them are already on the list.

Is there nothing else happening in the world of sport?

Well, no, but it seems like a silly time to write it, unless he was *gasp* fishing for internet hits. Maybe? Perhaps.

Possibly pick it up from the IT Tune Store after he faxed his manager.

Nothing of substance said by Cometti. You are jumping at shadows

how can anyone say that - McLean, Sylvia, Watts, Morton, Trengove and Scully were all taken with the exact picks they were expected to be give or take a spot or two. It is obvious to me that most of these guys would have been stars at other clubs but our development SUCKS.

Its not the recruiting its the development.

And it's also picking the gamestyle you want then recruiting types to suit your gamestyle. If you want a run & carry game you recruit for that to a large extent..

When we recruited Bailey we needed to clean out the cupboard. So when we took Bailey we adopted that gamestyle he wanted.

Unfortunately the flood was really only just beginning after the Swans Premiership, 2005. And the Sports Science was really about to take off in a big way. You could say we were unlucky the game changed so radically to a flood in quicktime /& it signalled the end of many of our players who couldn't operate that way, wouldn't chase, couldn't kick in, won't tackle, etc, etc, etc... You remember.

But it is always safer to recruit the robust bigger build types for contested footy, if they are near best available.

# Edit: Oh, & by the way, Our list is not to shabby all the same. But we need some honest straight shooter to keep them on the straight & Narrow. Anyone know someone?

Mclean got left behind the game changes with the speed of the game & the flood + his injuries. Morton likes some space. Sylvia needed some strong role models. Watts will mature. Trengove, what a hack. & the Skunk.

On a sidenote, saw a young bloke (couldn't have been over 20) driving a flash car in the city with a big sticker taking up at least 1/6 of his front windscreen, in the corner, reading "Bukkake Nights".

A bit strange, I thought...

Anyway, really in-depth analysis there from Commetti.

He should stick to commentating, and I've got sick of him doing that now too.

Agree. His schtick is well past its used by date and doesn't gel at all with the other callers on TripleM.

Where is the next generation of exciting young callers??

Unfortunately they're either dead (Grybas) or on Foxtel (Huddo). Campbell Brown might go alright after he finishes up playing footy. I can't stand the bloke, but maybe his calling will be okay.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
