What do we need?

I was there yesterday and it still looks as though we lack the creative half back. Grimes was far too worried by Rockliff and Voss outcoached us well in that facet. The small forward role is still up for grabs with Davey showing no more than a timid 1st gamer, a new CHB as Rivers is beginning to look slower every year and can't play 1v1. And an outside mid is what we should target next trade week. A slick, quick, well skilled outside man like a simpson who can deliver well into the fwd 50. Still though, we have players in he ranks but looking at the moment we need these guys now. Thoughts?

There's something else going on here

The stink emanating from our playing group just can't be put down to bad drafting or bad coaching

Or can it? Something is drastically wrong. Players are going backwards, no leadership, no fighting spirit, no desire, no stars, no good skills, no brains.

This group is totally demoralised. I have no idea why but it is becoming a recurring nightmare

We now have a new coach, new and more assistant coaches, some of best training facilities in the comp and yet we go backwards

I give up, I feel this sense of hopelessness now more than at any time in the last 5 seasons

C'mon players give us something, just anything to feel positive about

You want to know why we lost yesterday? It's really very simple.

Clearances and spread.

At the clearance we rarely had someone on the move and hunting the ball.

Then if we did win a stoppage we didn't have a spread that was good enough to open the game up.

Fix the stoppage and spread problem from yesterday and it will go a long way to wining.

All the adjectives and emotion is secondary fundamentals lost the game yesterday.

I expect the coaching staff to run the tapes in revision and ensure the players understand how poor the setup was.

I agree there is something weird going on and well hidden from the bulk of supporters. Whatever stink it is, it was there last season and the season before. And perhaps even back to when the likes of White, Robbo and co were starting to be shoehorned out of the club.

To do that we need players who want to hunt the ball...a lot of our list has been well paid to do not nearly enough...

we have to be ruthless now...and that does not exclude communication...The players are human, but the rocket must be fired this week otherwise the teacher will not have respect of the students.

common denominators over that time are connelly, schwab and the senior players.

anyone else?

What do we need? A miracle, because the next however many years of bottom 4 dwelling as evidenced by yesterday is going to see the end of the Melbourne Football Club. Yes, the signs are that bad. While we're not going to lose supporters, cos we're obviously a resilient bunch, what kid or new arrival to Melbourne would possibly want to support the club? As the media was previously been so keen to tell the world, before the great Jimmy performed his own miracle, we will become irrelevant faster than we might be prepared to admit.........

Sellar to CHB with Rivers 3rd man up for the spoil in 1v1 situations

Davey to be told that we are really struggling to find a spot for him in this team UNLESS he can provide us with some effective disposals from clearances as an outside mid. Move Moloney into a rotation with Jones and Magner as the inside mids.

Watts and Morton on the wings to give us some versatility in that position.

Trangove and Howe as HFF to move up the ground and use their overhead strength to maintain possession.

Couch in the FP to read the ball off the contest, put his head down and get it out of the pack and into the hands of a scorer.

I would start with those and go from there.

And with Tapscott, Gawn, McDonald, Troy Davis and Petterd available and busting a gut to get out onto the field.

I replied to a topic a couple of weeks ago saying I thought the younger players had left our senior players out to dry with their very little development over the years. But yesterday made me think that I was wrong. Our senior players are showing are younger players an insipid brand of football and a mediocre performance can be accepted as the norm. We need to see our younger blokes step up a bit and form a rat pack that sees the likes of Beamer,Davey and Green down at Casey because are unit of younger players are just too good. If not the senior players will be picked every week whilst our younger players just cruise along and not take the heat for this crap!

Simple maths: Uninspiring senior players + just cruise along young players= Brisbane 17 17 119 Melbourne 11 12 78

Matt Rendell maybe?

Making the most of the compo picks in this year's draft is crucial to the club going forward.

If only it was that easy.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
