What about the talk that Cloke's contract is on hold? He'd be a BIG get for GWS....

GAWN as well.

IIRC he was barely happy to pull a pies jumper on last season.

His old man would be well down the road in those discussions. He'd probably have Phat Phils number in his phone too...

Doesn't matter what his dad does. He will get a job with phat phil anyways!

They may Open a Golden Archers burger ring franchise way out West together? Ah. Baba Ghanoush & Falafels.

now we just need a poster to take the "I believe in Ryan" role

takers?

Does that old bird on the fence with the blue trackies from the 90's North Friday night games post here?

Yeah, she can do it.

I'm done...

I don't...They Should have gone to the Gold Coast when they had the chance..

Nought Melbourne are the reason GW$ exist....

Rubbish. Stones and glass houses my friend

Bastinac gone though

Ryan Bastinac isn't the same value as Tom $cully....North would just be pleased it's not Andrew Swallow...

Who knows North might be able poach the other Swallow from GC17, hope they do....

I remember reading at one stage in the early days when we were courting Tom Scully a story about Phil Scully and Bastinac's father having been teammates at Dandenong in its latter VFA days. Now Phil is on the GWS payroll and his best mate's son is in the final year of his contract at North. Is Sydney town big enough for both fathers?

I love the way his manager says "the last thing Ryan wants is to turn this into a saga" what a load of absolute BS. If he didn't want it to become a saga and he really did just want to focus on playing good footy he'd be looking to get the contract negotiations out of the way ASAP. The precedent has been set unfortunately on this matter with GC & GWS. Has there been one player targeted by either club so far that has put contract talks on hold to the end of a season and then stayed put?? I think petterd may have In 2010 but I can't think of any others.....

I would have thought that managers and players who are preparing an exit strategy would find a different play book than the one Lynch and Scully used last year after seeing their creditably collectively destroyed!

Apart from "putting it on hold", they're even using the identical "see how we go" and "sore knee" distractions.

Bastinac - 16 June 2011:

Similarly, he suspects his mate at Melbourne, Scully, 20, also knows where his future lies. He is just not saying.

"He's probably got his mind made up and knows what he's going to do," Bastinac, 19, said. "I do feel for him a little bit, but knowing him well I know it's not going to get to him at all.

"He will definitely make the right decision for him and the footy club."

Fine upstanding young pen pals these two.

In fairness, Bastinac was 50% correct though - Scully did ultimately make the 'right decision for him'.

It won't be the right decision for him, he will leave that club in 6 years with a fatter wallet, but no cup and no respect.

I'm just glad the black clouds are hanging over another club. I would really love to see one of Collifilths players poached though.

Once bitten twice shy.

nutbean pre Scully - "it is a players prerogative to wait until the end of the contract to negotiate - if i was a manager I would be advising my clients to wait"

He is not worth a great deal but a good year will see his value at north go north. Good idea for him to play out a few games before resigning with and pushing his price up. This was very common a few years back prior GW$ and the Goldie.

I said similar about Scully - if he plays well then his value will go up with MFC. If I was ScullyIwould get more runs on the board and you will get an even better contract out of MFC. This WAS common before GWS and GCS.

But GWS are on scene and offering money .

So my "learned the hard way attitude" is - any player who says they want to play out the year and concentrate on footy - no hurry to sign anything before the end of the season - GONE-SKI

Absolutely same here - at least when it comes to expansion teams.

I agree it was common pre expansion teams

However, I think it's blatantly obvious now that the Scully situation had an effect on our club - on all levels

You would think if Bastinac wanted to stay - he'd continue noegotiations - a la Hurley - not put them on hold

It's not a good sign - doens't mean he's definitely gone - but not a good look

and free agency - if Jamar came out and said now - "I just want to concentrate on footy and all contract talks can wait until seasons end" = free agency gornski

( when did I become so hardened and bitter ???)

"waiting til the seasons end" has a totally different meaning now. New teams/expansion or not.............gornski? yep!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
