I understand what you are saying but Garland would wipe the floor with Watts...

Have to agree with this... Definitely in the Fwd 50 anyway. If Watts took him further up the ground he might outstmart Garland in some situations though.

Dont under rate Wattsy ,nor over rate Judy .

FD obviously taking an overly cautious approach regarding injuries etc? might see the 2nd 22 trot out for the nab cup?!

Because for the past few weeks it has been advertised as an intra club match. I can understand why they are doing it but a lot of people will make the effort to go on the thinking it would be a match, not just training.

It will be a match - but a training match. I don't know that they're going to be stopping mid-play to do handball circles or 100m sprints.

I live 1h:45m away from Casey was planning on going but not going to bother now that i know its not a real game.

They really aren't doing themselves any favours from a PR perspective. First the brilliant idea of putting the intra-club on during normal work hours so anyone with a job is excluded, then they come out and say they're playing a bastardised half-game. I'm really not overly impressed with this approach.

I personally don't give a crap about the PR aspect of this one session/game/training/whatever at Casey if it helps us win games .

Meh. 8 x 8 minute chunks?... how are they going to get any continuity going? I bet they'll swap players to and from each side as well.

Can't argue with whatever training methods they think are best for the team....but it makes it hardly worth the drive out there.

Everything has to be 'different' these days.

Intraclubs always just seemed strange to me. I just cant imagine doing anything close 100% when you're playing against your own teammates, especially tackling, going for contested possessions/marks, etc. There's nothing to gain.

Think of it like dancing with your sister - you want to look good, but don't get too physical.

I couldn't care less about the format of the intra-club. Just PLEASE no injuries!!!

Yes, be good to avoid this situation:

"Get the feeling the Eagles aren't too fussed about the NAB Cup. Daniel Kerr, Nic Naitanui, Beau Waters, Matt Rosa, Mitch Brown and Andrew Embley are sitting out the opener with various injuries."

Add LeCras to that as well.

So that makes it [censored], does it ? It's still watching them simulate set-plays. It's not like 3km time trials, push-ups and 100m sprints with no contact.

dazzledavey had added "too" - I wondered what else was wrong.

..but there is something to gain... The coaches respect and a start in the best 22. It's a tough one but I wouldn't want to be the guy that looks like he's shirking any contests this close to the season.

It will be interesting to find out it is full match practice with AFL umpires, stoppages and so on or if it will be like the match practice at training when they have no stoppages, the coaches determine the starting and finishing point of the play. I hope it is a full match and not the later.

Coaches know what players bring to the table in this regard IMO. At this stage they'll be more looking to players sticking to structures and roles and that will be the basis for selecting a side round 1.

That is what I will be going to look at in any case. I'm not interested in seeing blokes clean one another up or faux punch-ons. Save it for when it matters.

Rubbish for those going to what was advertised as "intra club". Again, Melbourne can do circle work for all I care but it's hard on those who make an effort to go see what they think is an intra club game.

The news about the change of format is available in all forms of media for at least 8 hours before the actual event.

Plenty of time for anybody who now doesn't want to go to change plans etc......

It is also a Family Day....most kids under a certain age would watch for five minutes then go and chase food, excitement etc

It is pre season, the semi real stuff starts next week

I am bemused by some of the angst on here. The intra club isn't for the supporters, it's for what is considered the best preparation of the season. I'll be there and look forward to getting a footy fix.

Bear in mind that the players will be taking this session seriously. Players like Bate, who wants to re-establish himself, Morton, who wants to create a position for himself down back, Dunn, who knows he has to put up or shut up, Watts, who knows every eye will be trained on him, Trengove, who's stepping out in front of many for the first time as a leader, Clark, who wants to impress at a new club, Davey, who is returning to the future, all of these players have something on the line at 3pm today. Every player wants to line up in round 1 at the G, so I doubt they'll be taking too many half measures.

There's no doubt it's equivalent to dancing with your Sister, but you still want to execute every move well and impress the on-lookers. If there's a few less people there today I'll get out of the car park quicker.

Well said, I took a self imposed break from the board because the constant carping and negativity about everything was getting me down......I was hoping with a new season and everything new, that may change, but some posters haven't obviously

Everything has to be 'different' these days.

It's a teaching method for the New gameplan & requirements. It's not just a test to see who's where.

It's to teach,,,,, and bring everyone up to scratch, so the TEAM can function properly throughout the coming season.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
