Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Funny how everyone has dropped off Liam Jurrah for elite...

LJ - Aged 23 - 35 Games 81 goals - freakish talent with clear areas for improvement.

JW - Aged 21 - 40 games 33 goals - loads of upside...

yes, Jurrah kicks goals but i think people are excited about Jack for what he does around the ground, plays up the wings ect and will provide many goal assists which is the best thing imo

Frawley - an elite defender, maybe. Even the best full backs (Fletcher, Scarlett, etc) are never considered their side's best player.

Gysberts - He's not a great mark either.

Scarlett has often been considered Geelong's most important player, certainly within their footy club. If they picked a team of the AFL from the last 50 years he'd be a good chance to be named as FB. If that doesn't warrant elite status I don't know what does.

Best player is subjective and isn't static. Watts, Trengove, and Frawley are likely, but I agree with a few others that have mentioned Gysberts. Btw, his marking is fine.

The main difference for mine is that Watts will be able to bring players up to another level by involving them in the game, where LJ does have that bit of independence (may not be the right word to describe it, but selfishness isn't it either!).

The hardest part about LJ is that the gap between is best and worst is quite wide at the moment, which doesn't make sense considering on a bad day he kicks 3! But it's not just about how many he kicks. I often compare him to Robbo, with the main different being that on LJ's bad days he still hits the scoreboard.

The Jurrah/Clark relationship will be one I will watch with great excitement this year. I want Jurrah knowing when Clark is about to fart, even before Clark knows himself. Clark will obviosuly be the main target, but if LJ can learn Clark's style, it should be another 50+ goals from LJ this year.

Stevie J at the Cats and Steve Milne at the Saints are elite. There is no reason LJ can't reach those heights...

They are A grade

but not elite imo

Yes Milne is the best small forward ever going on goals per game or whatever

But when was he top 10 in the league?

depends on the definition of Elite

Johnson - 175 games for 363 goals = 2.07 per game

Milne - 236 games for 490 goals = 2.07 per game

Jurrah - 35 Games for 81 goals = 2.3 per game

Elite players in the comp are Judd, Abblett, Goodes, Swan etc

I dont like when people break down elite into sub catogories

I don't agree that only the best midfielders are the elite.

Football requires a number of positions have great players in them, and the best backs and forwards are also "elite", even if the Brownlow and media etc miss them. I reckon All Aust defines you as elite as the position is taken into account.

Watts - he'll be close to the top of the AFL heap within 4 years.

Smokey ? Martin - came to footy late (18?), is a great athlete, improved out of sight last year and if he continues to trend upwards will be super valuable in terms of positional flexibility

IIRC both Scarlett and Fletcher have won their respecive clubs B&F, and have been runner up more than once.

BTW the way agree LJ could end up being, if not the best, in our top 2-3 within 3 years (so not a smokey). Really surprised how many posters seem to have dropped of him. Sure he needs to build his tank etc etc but he has so much x factor he could be a porn convention.

Added to that he hasn't come through a full on junior system or played in a one of the true AFL feeder comps (ie WAFL, SANFL, VFL) so doesn't have the advantage most other young AFL players do of 4-5 years access to top shelf fitness and conditioning systems. Lets see what another couple of years under MIsson's regime enables him to do fitness wise

Playing as a permanent forward his role is to kick goals and he does. Would be interested in a statistical comparison to the Whiz - i don't recall too many dees fans knocking him. Yes he's obviously alot taller than the Wiz but their role in the team is essentially the same

This is the interesting question binman, and one I have raised on a different thread and didn't receive an answer (not that I recall!). A majority on here are crying out for us to have a small, crumbing forward, but what is the definition of small? Is Jurrah that "small" forward, playing a similar role to The Wiz? As I said in my post earlier this thread, if Jurrah can learn how Clark rolls, and know it back to front, he may be that crumbing forward.

Agree with Frawley but the term ELITE means top few players in the league.

I couldnt name our last elite player......

Since when is that what elite means. The definition of elite is "The best or most skilled members of a group". How many other defenders in the league would you choose this season over Chip? I personally would have him above all others at present (on the basis that Fletcher and Scarlett are passed their prime) Frawley is an elite defender.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
