I really don't like co captains but i guess i've got 12+ years to get use to it unless one of them gets the flick early.I've always been a one team-one captain man but i guess when we don't have one true leader,two half leaders will suffice!

I do feel for Beamer who's only made one mistake but this sends a message to the whole group that the leadership group sets the culture at the club,therefore Beamer and Sylvia cannot be part of it.

Agreed, very gracious and classy. Hope he plays some great footy this year, as an elder of the club he is still a leader regardless of the absence of any official role.

A response like this is a great endorsement of the new captains and encourages the playing group to support the young blokes and hopefully removes any discomfort and awkwardness that may have lingered.

THe NWO is here. Relieved to see symbols of the failed continuity of leadership so linked to our mediocrity of the past finally broken. The two most highly touted have got the job. Remains to see whether it is the right decision but it looks great at the moment. A few noses may be out of joint but if they want to part of our future success they better put those noses flush to the grindstone or else they are not worth jack &$@?. Great statement by Neeld.

Some say he is a front track bully as he only performs against lower teams. I say he is the only good midfielder we have and cant beat top midfielders alone. He is often tagged too as he is a berometer in the midfield.

I have seen him (Moloney) as a flat track bully but you may be right in that he often gets tagged out of the game by the better teams. The problem I have with him is when this happens he doesn't change up his game, he continues to try and bullock through opposition players and you just can't push through guys like Ling, Bartell, Kelly, Hodge, Sewell, Mitchell, Swan, Pendles & co. this is just dumb football. I think he will have a big challenge this year to adapt his playing style and be more team oriented, he will need to think his way through and use his strength to get the ball out to team mates in a better position. It will be interesting to see if he is up for the challenge, I hope he is.

It's difficult to fathom some posters disappointment with the senior players who were dropped from our leadership group. I believe it has been the failure of our senior leaders to actually lead in desperate times of need over the past few years that has directly attributed to our poor form. Their inability to 'stand up' in pivotal games, like 186, has been the hallmark of our directionless, dispassionate, bruise-free style of football.

Don't know if this has been mentioned earlier, but has anyone noticed the change in our relationship with the media very recently. When Gazza was at the helm the MFC was vault like - no press leaks, not one - just drummed up speculation by hack journos. Suddenly now Jay Clark from the Hun has been on the money - co-captains, announcement today about the captaincy, AGM & Jimma. Not suggesting a conspiracy theory - just interesting. Maybe they could replace the Age as shorts sponsors.

I was just going to like this but it bears repeating. Very classy. He deserves our support and it's time to dwell on the positives in the past and those ahead.

For those with bunched knickers regarding Mitch Clark, he's trained with us under Neeld for as long as every other player has. Neeld said it was a clean slate for everyone. If he and the other coaches like what they've seen from Mitch, how long he's been here or where he's from is irrelevant.

He's fit to lead the way these coaches want this team to be lead, you should be thankful he's brought that bonus attribute with him.

I for one think he's exactly the type of leader we need around our forward line, with the timid types we have floating in and out of there, he'll set an example and let others know what is and is not acceptable. Great choice.

Brad has been a loyal servant for many years, despite what many people here think you don't need a C or a VC beside your name to be a leader at a footy club. I'm 100% sure that Brad will take this as a challenge to set his goals higher than previously and continue to be the elder statesman of the footy club - he will remain a 'spiritual leader' for want of a better phrase and help guide the Jack and Jack combination away from his mistakes.

Great appointment! Both kids will be great leaders going forward.

Moloney missing the leadership group altogether is a bit ridiculous though. He's clearly our best onfield leader, and has been for years. We all know how proud he is as a Dee, and how much stripping leadership hurt him last year. I just hope this doesnt [censored] him off too much, because he did nothing but earn his spot and win a B&F along the way!

It is certainly a very forward looking move, and hopefully as well as reflecting the optimism of those in the inner sanctum, will also make a very public statement about where they see us heading.

I agree that the absence of Moloney is a bit of a surprise, though maybe he is a leader without title, as to me is the inclusion of Bartram who I would have considered as marginal in a fully available list. I guess Neeld et al see things in Bartram that many here do not.

While the Captains will more than likely be in those positions for many years to come, the leadership group however, will (imho) be a much more dynamic and changing set of players. Beamer just might get a role next year, Howe, Watts etc might show some real leadership traits and values to the coaches and the rest of the team this year and that could put them into contention.

Some posters on here are acting like the whole group is set in stone for the foreseeable future. Neeld will expect the leadership indicators to be met on a consistent basis to maintain a position in the LG.

Like many others I am thrilled for young Jacks. Leaving out of the leadership group Green and Moloney though is to me quite baffling. Maybe Brad suggested the move regarding himself. Who knows? If he was sacked then it gets back to how the football department treat their vets eg McDonald, Robertson, Johnstone and Bruce. Let's hope Brad was in full agreement here. His tweet certainly didn't indicate any bitterness. Rather the opposite.

Mitch Clark was also one of the first outsiders to commit to Neeld's vision for the MFC - and I rate him for that, because historically we've never been able to attract the bigger names to this club (eg, Luke Ball).

Initially, I don't think Clark wanted anything more than to win the respect of his team mates and the coaching staff, and clearly he has achieved that.

Many people will no doubt say he only signed because of the money. But the underlying reality is that there had to be more than that that attracted him to us, particularly at this point in his career. He wouldn't have signed if he had thought we were likely wooden spooners for the next four years.

I reckon Clark has essentially committed the rest of his career to this club, and I think it's great that Neeld is rewarding him for that.

As an aside, Neeld talked about this club developing a 'hard edge'. Dropping Green, Moloney, Rivers and Davey within 4 months of him being appointing coach. Well, that shows a 'hard edge'.
