No, only if GEELONG finish below us. The draft order of the pick remains dependent on the original owner of the pick.

sorry Dr M, I realised what you said back then after a while, And while I'm back here checking the Comp picks realised I hadn't edited my mistake, so am rectifying now. cheers, DL.

Great news weve activated both pics.

I reckon 2 mid first round picks in what Rendell was quoted as saying 'This is the strongest draft ever'

is a great outcome for us, we are in a very good position here.

We've got Watts and Cook as developing forwards - on top of Mitch Clark locking down the big post,

it would seem our forward line is set, especially now Pettard and Howe are showing their worth.

Will be interesting to see what type of playing we go for, Im tipping we'll go for quick outside types perhaps,

especially with the addition of the Viney.

Would be wise to involve young Jack in the draft itself as he'd know these kids better than most scouts.

We need midfielders and a crumbing forward so I would be disappointed if we didn't use our 3 first rounbd picks on these (Viney locked away already obviously).

I agree with that jack viney could be a valuable source of info regarding players from this draft

Was working it out and if we say finish 12th this year with bulldogs below us and Adelaide above us then we would be looking at picks 8 , 9 and 13 with pick 8 or 9 to be used on viney , if we finish below the bulldogs then our picks could be 6, 7 and 13(assuming we drop to 13th , which was where we finished last year )

So looking at some early phantom drafts and predictions on big footy we maybe be looking at players such as

Nick Vlastuin ( northern knights) -Nathan Buckley style mid

Mathew Haynes ( northern knights ) line breaking back flanker wingman

Jonathon O'Rourke ( Calder cannons) inside and outside mid with very good skills

Ben Kennedy (SA) potentially elite small forward /mid with outstanding tackle pressure

Dayle Garlett (WA) small forward /midfielder with amazing skills and pace

Does anyone know of other players who could be worth a look at come the end of year ?

Very pleased we activated both. The resulting pick nuimbers depend on where we, the Dogs and the Crows finish. The mid first rounder will be around 13 or 14. Our 1st rounder will go on Jack Viney no matter where we finish - someone below us will bid for him because they know we will take him. The pick after our 1st rounder will float - if we finish 14th then it's likely to be 6 and if we finish 8th it's likely to be around 14. So likely we'll have Viney + (somewhere 6 to 14) + (13 or 14).

Yes, very good. I thought they would 'overthink' and hold a pick back but this gives us one October to trade them and then if that fails, we get the kids as soon as we could possibly get them.

Posted

Can we trade the activated picks? I say we trade for another ready made player. We have lost our recruiting manager. It's a no brainer really...lets use the picks to secure players who can make an impact.

My reading of it is as follows:

Assuming we end higher that GWS but under Western Bulldogs:

If we come 6th we will get picks: 11, 14, 15

If we come 7th we get picks: 11, 13, 14

If we come 8th we get picks: 11,12,13

If we come 9th we get picks: 11,12,13

If we come 10th we get picks: 10, 11, 12

If we come 11th we get picks: 9,10,11

If we come 12th we get picks: 8, 9, 11

If we come 13th we get picks: 7,8,11

If we come 14th we get picks: 6, 7, 11

If we come 15th we get picks: 5,6,11

If we come 16th we get picks 4, 6, 11

Good work. Well I said we would finish 12th in the other thread so I would be very happy with Viney,9 & 11.

nice try, but try again ...

Where GWS finishes is immaterial - their pick is tied to where Adelaid finishes.

I think we should tank, come bottom and actually get fair compensation for losing Judas.

Some on here don't think tanking is necessary for us to get maximum value for those picks...

Given Adelaide's NAB Cup form, and our form of the l last many years, it's a no brainer to activate the picks this year. Next year one would hope, assume and pray that we'd finish higher than this season, which would therefore reduce the placement and value of the picks.

Besides, if we pick two mids (aside from Viney), you'd think they'd need a good 2-3 seasons in the system to start to peak, which is really the start of our premiership window (which I hear is open for you to jump out of, should we fail).

Now, if there is any justice in the world, and frankly, there isn't, we nail those two picks and get two gun mids who are better than Ratshit $cully.

Meant to be a great aboriginal kid sliding down the table from top 5ish i think, Garlett cousin of Jeff. Due to behaviour issues or something. meant to be a huge talent.

pocket forward come midfielder eventually, sounds perfect.

I think plenty of players have just had a fright at the MFC. Activating the compo picks is a declaration that people will be moving on at year's end. We'll be using AT LEAST three picks (more likely 4-5) on drafting new talent, plus in all probability upgrading rookies. A lot of fringe players have to see the writing on the wall with this move.

Trade for Dangerfield. Getting him and Viney into the midfield gives us a boost of class and aggression. We cannot afford to wait another 4-5 years for another new set of kids to develop or we'll turn into Richmond.

I'm pleased that we've activated both compo picks. What we do with them will mean a great deal.

I know best available...midfield should be at the forefront.

Small forwards usually slip.

I would prefer one that can keep his feet.

Great to see we are using our picks in one of the best drafts of all time.Due to BP leaving and as we are using Viney Snr as Head of recruiting and up to now used John Turnbull Ex head of Hawthorn as a Consultant, it would be very wise to consider utilizing Rendell in some sort of fashion. We have a few people whom have worked with him,Viney himself, Craig, and of course Sellars maybe able to develop further with Rendell's background. He was offered the job as Senior Ass.to Primus, and declined it late last year.A wealth of experience ( over 35 years) that would be great for us.Also would assist us as a great ruck coach .

I agree and I'd take him. Trouble is I think hes cooked so wouldnt be around for long. Would be very useful this draft as you say.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
