Far from a certainty, but I see the Suns have applied for Jaeger O'Meara to be allowed to play in the NAB Cup and NAB Challenge.

If he is allowed, surely the same would go for Viney.

The Suns are confident after the league set a precedent last year by allowing GWS to field players in the same situation.

From the sounds of things, he's managing some OP anyway, so could not be included even if eligible...

Sorry, don't have a link, but the article was in the Sunday mail.

i think viney is being managed carefully with OP so i doubt they will rush him on

True, but a brief taste at this stage could be invaluable for his development.

Then again, I'm not sure he needs a taste so he can adjust to the physicality...

But hypothetically, if he was fit would he be able to play?

I doubt it. Unlike GWS and GC we aren't going to see that level of generosity.

I don't know why you'd make such a comment.

What is the difference between O'Meara with the Suns, and Viney with us?

Also Crouch at Adelaide and Daniher at Essendon for that matter?

If one is allowed, it would be mind boggling to deny another in the same situation.

Even if we were allowed, why would we want to? The kid's 17(?) we've got enough young players (and older ones) who need to use the NAB to get miles in their legs.

Difference is they've already drafted JOM and we've only committed to drafting J.V so it couldn't happen.

Hypothetically .....

... if O'Meara is allowed, it doesn't necessarily mean Viney should. O'Meara and Crouch have already been selected through trades. We haven't selected Viney, we just said that we will. We haven't spent anything on him yet, just like GC with Swallow last year.

Edit- Exactly the same as what SM said. Sorry, I'm blind!

Mis-leading heading. Change it. There is nothing to see here, move along!

Please explain how it is you find it misleading?

Not sure it could have been much clearer...

I see the point of difference, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it couldn't happen.

Yep, I thought that too, but I'd think the same of the Suns.

I really think the football dept would agree with you on this.

But it's a faint possibility!

Bingo!

I was looking for that. Young Jack's not on our List yet.

Is O'Meara technically on Gold Coast's list?

They hold the rights to him, but I'd have thought if he were on their list, he could be selected.

Oh Lutz

O'Meara was drafted by GC, as was Crouch to the AFC. Viney has a contract with the MFC and will be drafted. Its a big difference. Viney is not allowed to play the NAB as your heading implies. Fix it pls.

I can't imagine a NAB cup game would do anything outstanding for Viney's development. I'm glad he gets to play VFL which is just as good as a crappy Nab Challenge game. Let's have a look at the list an pick the best side so we can win round 1.

Several issues here including the fact that, despite being committed to the club, he doesn't become a Demon till November, 2012. What about insurance for a player not on your list? Why do it when you can't play him throughout the season?

Even if he was on our list, your forgetting about the Judd Rule...

I'd say no. He isn't even on our list. So there may be insurance issues should he get injured.

Also, not sure we would want him to play. I'm fairly sure we'd want as many players to get as much match fitness for the upcoming season as opposed to Viney who can't pull on the jumper this season.

But thats only my opinion.

Crazy idea imo. Why risk anything to gain nothing? JV's time will come soon enough, when his body is better prepared.

Posted

Maybe he'll play in the intra club match?

There ya go, if he's not managing injury, and covered for insurance which I reckon the club would have for all.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
