He's terrific at breaking news and a relentless questioner. I never thought much of his analysis or writing. Great traditional reporter and I admire his skills. Got a planet-sized ego as I understand it!

Another average football writer goes. Big Deal. Won't be missed by me.. rarely read the Herald Sun

Let's be honest he stuck the boots into the Dees at the drop of a hat, For this I never liked him. Just another typical Journo writing things for the sake of an arguement. NEXT.

Probably had more news 'scoops' than most of the others. I respect him for that.

Martin Flanagan is a writer. Mike was a cheap hack in comparison. I am not sad to see him go, only his replacement becoming Chief. I hope to see him at the 'G next season.

...bleh... inserted his ego into most stories, saying he's better than MR is not saying much, the floaters in a Werribee pond have that going for them too.

Well, that is somewhat of a fallacy as I vividly recall Mike in a short video on the Hun site saying "it looks as though he will stay."

So, he may be a fine journo but was as dumbfounded as the rest of us.

Not really. Mike made a video straight after that press conference with Jon Anderson and there's no doubt that Scully's answers had him momentarily wavering, especially as Anderson thought Scully had been genuine, but in the next morning's article he reiterated his view that Scully would be leaving. And he stayed true to that view until the end.

I like Mike, but I never found him insightful, or particularly knowledgeable about the game.

And it is Sheahan.

And apparently, he will do the occasional piece in the Hun, so reports of his death are exaggerated...

Never liked reading his articles, always thought they were sensationalist. He would push an extreme opinion to attract attention. Didn't rate him On the Couch much either, Hird and then Roos had far more insightful/interesting observations to make then he or Gerard.

I actually much prefer Robinson after watching 360 on Fox this season.

Thanks Ben-Hur This must have been what was in my memory.

Was beginning to think I had imagined it.

I'm glad he's going he has maroon and blue blood on his hands. And if we go back far enough probably red and white as well. All he was was a tame AFL reporter that knew who his pay masters were.

Sheahan was just your typical bottom feeding journo with an over inflated ego with a love of the sensational, writing for a tabloid rag. I'm really surprised that theirs so much love for the man on this forum. Unfortunately one of AFL's many failing is a dearth of truly great writers writing about the game. There are of course exceptions and and Martin Flannigan is one that comes to mind.

Posted

Yeah agree with that - the reason Sheahan seems to get so much love is because of the shocking quality of the rest of them. I mean next to Mark Robinson, Jon Ralph, Robert Walls etc the guy looks like a pro.

Love himor hate him we was for all intents and purposes the soul of Footy at the Hun. His leaving will leave a huge void which personally I see none of the residual quite able to fill. Like any journo he got some right..and a few wrong. Bit he KNEW (knows ) footy which is more than some of the hacks around whos sole aim I sense is to sensationalise a headline from whatever lays around, be it two blokes having too many beers or someone not signing a contract quick enough. No facts all story etc.

I'll for one will miss Mikes writings in the Hun. Its often up to the reader to discern what they will but I feel Mike wrote genuinely.

enjoy the time in the sun Mike...you can get out your red and blue scarf now :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
