Membership Tally 2012

Official MFC website says we are sitting currently at 16,287. It does not seem all that long ago, we celebrated breaking the 15K barrier in a season. Does anyone have an idea of how we compare to the same time last year? It would be good to break 20K before Christmas. Did we do that last year?

Let's hope we break 40K by the start of next season.

Yes, we broke 20,000 last year before Christmas, pretty sure it was a week or two before Christmas. I'll chase up the past Membership threads for comparisons.

Here is the 2011 Membership Tally thread : http://demonland.com...__fromsearch__1

I'll change this title to include "tally" because we already have a couple of threads on the 2012 Membership - regarding membership types etc.

Comparison. A year and 6 days ago we were on 11,922. As of now 18th Nov we are on 16,287. Therefore ~ 3-4,000 ^.

Very, very optimistic... but yes would be nice.

Hopefully they keep up the interviews with Misson/players/etc. Keeping the fans in touch and optimistic during the off season is the best way to keep the memberships going. A big christmas drive will probably come soon too.

Here's a post from Nov 30 last year, it includes comparisons from the 2010 membership tally (late 2009), however there is a Nov 30 tally last year of 17,183. Of which the same tally or thereabouts was recorded on Dec 11 the year before.

IIRC we experienced a surge post Draft in both years and more in the lead up to Christmas.

Use these figures from last year to compare: -

7 Dec 2009 - 16,473

8 Dec 2009 - 16,693

9 Dec 2009 - 16,875

10 Dec 2009 - 17,015

11 Dec 2009 - 17,195

15 Dec 2009 - 17,517

17 Dec 2009 - 17,790

6 Jan 2010 - 18,849

*Ref: Membership tally 2010 thread

Currently 17,183 ~ equivalent with 11 Dec last year.

Good !

However the answer to your question is we achieved a tally of 20,003 recorded on the 17th of December 2010. Just over a week before Christmas. So you can use that as a benchmark of sorts.

Thanks for the chronogy HT. 2000 up on this time last year, after the on-field disappointment and turmoil of 2011, is really good progress. 40k for 2012 look achievable.

Wouldn't it be great one day to have our premium members fill level 2 from the MCC to the AFL members and our general reserve seats fill the same on level one.

It is possible if the club is serious and gets it right. Imagine if the cats played out of the 'G. Around 2000 they were in a very perilous state down there. But they got it right.

no worries. Reserved seating is filling up. And like last year, may have to request MCG/AFL to extend one section for another bay of seating.

It's interesting you say that because I was a reserved seat member next to the MCC and there seemed to be a lot of free space around me. Was that just people buying the membership and not using it?

And updates are much appreciated as well.

That's the case I sit there and there.are quite a few who don't turn up to games, including usually 4 of my 7 seats.

Some of them, it would appear, buy a seat and then sit in the MCC area.

TBH I think we've reached a peak. You can't expect massive membership growth unless you actually have an install base. Membership isn't indicative of install base -- support numbers are -- so we should look at expanding in that area before we all act so certain of achieving 40,000+. Club is taking massive leaps to expand the support base, which is great, but as it stands I don't think we will see massive membership increases this year, maybe even a small drop of 1-5%. Just my thoughts.

That's a correct observation in at least one case Pates. I live interstate, but purchase my reserved seat membership each year:

  • as a way of supporting the club that I love; and
  • to guarantee access to finals tickets whenever the Dees make it that far (I'm sure our day will come!).

Sadly, the travel involved means that I usually only get to about half a dozen home games per year, so my reserved seat is vacant for the rest of the time. Geez, I wish I lived in Melbourne ............. and thank God for Foxtel.

Edit: Corrected spelling of Melbourne .... Bloody hell!!

I'm also legends member. I've never met the people in the 5 seats next to me.

If they can afford to throw away those sort of $$$$ with the hope of getting a grand final seat.

Come up and see me I'll show them an easier way to get rid of their money.

Hate to be a spoil sport but the Pies probably have 30 000 members right now.

They have 2 weeks to renew for reserve seats or you will miss out.

I think we have a ways to go!

The good thing about that OD is that a lot of them will miss out!

Great to see the increase to 18238 -a very healthy level at this stage- would love to see HT or someone else compare the levels at this time over the last two years to see how we are tracking to 40,000 ,the number that Jimma wants.

He will want 45,000 next year...

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
