So leaving for money is more 'courageous' than ignoring the big bucks to stay with the team that selected you in the draft? Give me a break.

I hate to call that conspiracy angle...but it does have some genuine merit in hindsight. It would mean that he hadn't signed anything in 2010 with GWS - which he hadn't, and which was what the journos were questioning - but rather had signed it way back in 2009.

I always love a conspiracy theory, but I must say this is the best one I have ever heard, especially on this matter.

Nothing extra. Making himself available to the media for the purpose of promoting the club would be a condition of his contract - and all players' contracts I reckon.

The fact that these interviews in competing newspapers came out the same day suggests that the initiative for them came from GWS rather than the reporters who did them.

And HWSNBN had to go along with it.

Same goes with Mark Neeld's media blitz this weekend. He's in both papers so someone at MFC has a media strategy working pretty nicely at the moment. Not much footy news around so pitch the papers access to the new hard man.

These guys can't just jump when they get a better contract. There are strict and strange rules about when and how that occurs. It's the system that creates the liars. If it was my job rather than that of a footballer, and I was choosing to leave for money, I would sign and resign almost instantaneously. If you signed (and we don't know he signed, he may have just "agreed") with a new employer for 12 months from now, would you tell your current employer? Most wouldn't if they wanted to stay in their current employment for as long as possible. Now, if you were asked about it in the media every second week? Would you lie?

He owes you nothing.

This really teh only issue of consternation. The LIE. That he took an offer..good for him, who wouldnt ( in general ) look favourably upon a massive truckload of money to do the same job at another company ? Few Id suggest. the best and most sensible post o this entire scully affair. we all just sound like poor losers bagging this bloke for leaving. we are all die hard fans of the MFC but scully isnt. it was an opportunity not many would turn down and, lets be honest, after 186, MFC appeared to be a fairly rudderless organisation. lets just concentrate on the blokes still wearing the red and blue and remember that as good as scully may be, our premiership hopes never rested squarely on his shoulders (eg, judd and carlton- still no premiership for the blues). i was actually glad the club didnt sign him as the huge salary differential wouldve possibly created discontent amongst the other players and wouldve definitely meant the club wouldnt have been able to compete with the market as our youngsters came out of contract over the next few years.
