The Travis Tuck Thread

Delighted to hear that he will be training with the club during November in the hunt for a chance to join the MFC list. Highly recommended by Paul Satterley his VFL coach at Werribee last year, when he finished 4th in the Liston Medal.

A tall midfielder in his early 20s, a bargain, ready to go to step straight in for Scully.

My fingers are crossed.

Yep, I hadn't heard of it before your post, but I'm happy for Tuck to get a chance to revive his career at Melbourne, especially given the Satterley endorsement. He certainly has the blood-lines to be a decent player, but at the end of the day that means diddly squat. Good luck to him.

As you say, sometimes people get overexcited by "bloodlines" - Cordner, Kavanagh, Molloy, Chris Johnson, etc. ... unless you have a Geelong bloodline it doesn't necessarily mean much at all.

Yes. A gamble on this bloke ... we should take.

Posted

Why'd he get delisted?

lol

The worst way possible.

Well, one of them at least.

Liked the odd 'ice' bath after games...

Still, if he can play footy and can keep himself right - he's a chance.

Can we only get him in the rookie/pre season draft? Cause if this draft is as weak as people are saying it is then maybe we should use a pick in the NAB draft.

I said no to drafting Sewell, and I would have to say the same about this guy as well.

The only thing he has on Sewell is a few games at the top level, but hardly draft-worthy games.

Let's hope Jack Viney changes the trajectory of our graph.

His uncle Jay certainly didn't set the world on fire.

Yeah, and there were people at Geelong who said the same of Podsiadly and others at Dockerland who criticised the drafting of Michael Barlow.

Do I detect a bit of manlove Yoda ?

The kid showed more than you give him credit for - list worthy imo, especially with some Satterley approval which is something Sewell lacks.

I suppose the irony is that during the preseason Tuck was battling with Paul Johnson for the last spot on Hawthorn's rookie list and missed out to PJ.

I was surprised because of the Tuck/Ablett family's connection to the area that he didn't come to Casey this year. It will be interesting to see how he trials at the club and I wouldn't mind them trying Sewell out as well.

Hasn't Tuck been delisted by both Richmond and Hawthorn?

I think that's Shane Tuck. To my knowledge Travis Tuck has never been on Richmond's list.

Posted

I really hope we don't pick this guy up - he would be the ultimate list clogger

Big deal if he came 4th in the Liston trophy, Shane Valenti won it and was an average AFL footballer at best.

Travis Tuck struggled to play consecutive games at Hawthorn for 4 years; he has terrible disposal by foot and would simply be a terrible pick up considering we have Viney and hopefully another couple mids to come in 2013.

Not saying we should get him as I haven't seen him play, but I think the reason some are speculating is because he brings another big body into the equation. Also he sounds pretty desperate to get another chance and if he is committed to the cause and not other things, he may be worthwhile having a look at, if we are into Rookie selections that are pretty ordinary at best.

Sewell has multiple B&F wins at VFL standard and a BOG, maybe 2 in GF's, can't see that type of accolade on Tucks list of achievements

Great news!

I've kept my eye on him a little since leaving Hawthorn, and hoped we put some feelers out for him.

This is a bloke that ACTUALLY DESERVES a second chance, unlike clowns like Fevola.

I think Trav can still prove to be a very good player, and just needs a decent support network around him.

We can provide that.

Travis Tuck? The 'Iceman'? Come on. Any player who has the talent to play at the top level and throws it away by using is a complete idiot. We have had great luck in unearthing talent via the rookie list that may have missed their chance due to an injury or bad luck. But instead we look at a guy who had his chance but wasted it by shooting up and not putting in the hard yards on the track.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he gets his life back on track and finds a way to enjoy footy and perhaps even make a career out of it again. I just don't think it should be at the expense of one of our rookie list spots.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
