Well that makes the decision pretty easy. We just need to make a choice between Pavlich and Goodes.

Personally, I think we should get Goodes, but I suppose I'd be happy enough to pick up Pavlich.

Who says we need to choose between a big forward and an experienced mid? I'd be trying to get one of each because they'll both improve our team more than a draftee.

Do we have enough "cheese" to have both? Can we afford to be that bold?

Sounds like we are a fair chance to get Dawes if we offer him 2 mill over 4 years- it may be less than what Syd and GWS are offering but with us he doesn't have to move. I like that we have a good hand at this draft table. Thank you snotty nosed young man who will go unnamed!

Latest from AFL website is that Dawes expects to re-sign with Collingwood shortly.

Priority 1 for me is an elite mid to replace Scully - we're not going to trade for one - teams just don't trade them. Our best option is the draft and early in the draft. That's why the GWS U17 draft is so important. We need to slap out 2 compo picks down on the table there for pick 1 or 2 in that draft O'Meara/Crouch and hang on for the ride. You know for a fact that with Sheedy and Allan in control it'll be dragged out until 1:59 on the last day of trading.

Next highest priority is a ready-to-go tall marking forward, sure Cook and Fitzpatrick may come through but we need one NOW to play any sort of flexible game style where we can go to a long option when necessary. martin just doesn't provide that threat. Dawes would be great and if we can get him for pick 12 plus then fantastic - the compo picks are off the table because they're locked up with the GWS trade. The only way dawes comes to MFC is if we convince him to by offering him twice as much money as he can make at Collingwood, say $2M over 5 years, then they have to trade him and we have a nice pick. Trading is the art of the possible though - I'd love Pendlebury or Goddard but it's not going to happen - maybe Dawes won't happen either. If it's not on then I'd be seriously looking at Kosi - he's 29 and can fill the role at half the cost in contract and trade price.

If we can get Grimes, McKenzie and Bail on the park and with Trengove and Gysberts a year older to go with Moloney and Jones our midfield grunt is not dire - a Scott Thompson or Brad Sewell would be great but not essential - I think the tall forward is more important.

Seriously, I'd rather stick big Jamar down there. Plays as the big FF, does forward line rucking- Martin does the rest. I understand he is an AA ruckman but we can't have our cake and eat it too. And another benefit is it wont cost us any picks. We already have Jamar.

1) Because we think that they will be part of our next premiership tilt and we don't currently have those players on our list, or

2) Because we want to play a style of game that requires a tall forward and the players that can play that role are not yet ready to play it.

Getting Kosi (or a state league forward) on the cheap means that we can teach the players to play the style of footy that Neeld wants us to play. They can fill a spot until the likes of Cook, Fitzpatrick, McDonald etc are ready to take over that full time for when we are going for a premiership.

Draft/trade time will be very interesting to see what sort of players we go after.

Old, I'm with you on this. We need a 'Temp',,,OR go hard after a Quality Tall Forward. I'd rather Spend Up, on a Quality Mid.

I never thought I would think this (Kosi), 'But as a Temp',,, he has shown recently he can 'Present'. I think he'd come cheap re Picks.

Jako it is all over now as in todays Hun he says he is staying at the Pies.

We still need someone like him because Cook will IMO not make an big contibution before 2014 that is 2 season away.

We want Chris Dawes, we don't need "Brad Miller".

Even a Dawes is likely in our best forward line to be drawing a third defender (Watts and Jurrah would seem matchup priorities). Dawes would be really excellent against that third defender most weeks...however, its seemingly unlikely he's going to be a demon. So we can't just find Chris Dawes Lite, someone like Miller who can't exploit their favourable match ups. IMO we did not miss Brad this year, he simply takes up room.

Either we're successful in taking a quality piece or we just get a year into Cooke, no mediocrity (blooding a player is not mediocre).

Interesting article today in The Age about the loyalty of Tom Hafey.

I know he's from a different era and is so passe, but there's a certain No 1 draft pick pratt who could take a leaf out of this man's philosophy.

Chris Dawes espouses the same values as our young Jacks - he would have been a worthwhile pick up.
