Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You can actually want to do something...but dont actually do it. As an aside.. anyone whos read Rich Dad Porr dad will be familar with Kyosake treatise on this phenonema. Theyre paired...but different. So as Determination and application, the want...and the do. How exactly has Cale been nobbled by luck or lack of ?

Fair enough. And I didn't actually say Cale had been robbed of luck, was just making a general comment.

Determination and application sound like one and the same thing. I'd say the three broad qualities are talent, application/determination and luck. Plenty of players have had failed careers on the lack of element #3.

Agree Nasher. In respect of luck eg contact injuries you are right. But I dont apply this to Cale and I dont think you do.

Edit: Just saw other comment.

You can actually want to do something...but dont actually do it.

That does not address the difference between determination and application.

He has been on the list for 4 years and in this time has never shown a desire for the contest. Cale is being shown up in the bravery stakes by 1st and 2nd year players constantly.

I'm not as confident as some are that he can flourish under a new coach. He lacks an element of fight- that bit of mongrel that u need to succeed at the highest level.

You can keep your elite endurance and supposed skill; if you don't possess the fight, it's all worth nought.

At the very least I want to see Cale earn his call up to the 22 through showing some more balls- go for the footy son, hunt it! Don't keep waiting for your opponent to grab it then try to tackle him to gain possession. Your an embarrassment!

Now that I've had time to think this through a bit, I still think they are tied together. The want is useless without the do, and the do doesn't exist without the want. Each of them implies the other, and either of them in isolation have no meaning.

This is getting a tad on the abstract side though, really.

As the first player younger than me to ever play for Melbourne, Cale Morton has a special place in my heart. But to be honest, Kate Moss has a better chance of being hard at the contest than him - at least she has some bloody drive!

Kate Moss? That's be a good nickname for him, Trade bait only.

I think that Cale my surprise a few of us this year.

How often do we see a player move clubs and flourish with a new role and under a new message.

I consider the MFC in 2012 to be an entirely new club with an uncomplicated yet refreshing and innovative message.

Cale has moved club without having to change his jumper make no mistake.

The Bailey message never had a chance to garner the respect required for success, and it is only the result of the message for so long being one of accepting loss for the long term benefit of the MFC.

It ass been proven now that you can't nurture a losing structure one year and then (with the same players) demand a winning attitude the next. Bailey we all hoped would be the man to receive his dues when our time came but unfortunately footy isn't always fair.

Need will benefit from Baileys selflesness and also the clubs learning of the resources required to be the best.

I believe that Cale and also my personal favourite N.Jones will give us Demon Die-Hards a gift this year.

Got this from Demonology posted by Allicat; quite interesting.

Interesting bit of information from son in law who works out with a black belt Judo exponent who has been hired by MFC to build strength and endurance in Cale. Was seriously surprised how weak he was. Even though the previous fitness staff had him on a weight program they were not building endurance and he was easily exhausted after only a couple of tackles, something most of us could see for ourselves.

Great to see that someone, and I assume it is MN has the ability to diagnose issues such as this and employ the correct people to address them. Looking to see a stronger athlete in Cale in 2012.

Hope it makes a difference, I think we all know our handling of player development has been quite poor for quite a long time.

He shouldn't be unfit, he had a great beap test before he was drafted and has had late preseason injuries, this year it was a thumb so he could have kept running. But he doesn't seem to have any power, and as he hasn't bulked up his fitness should still be good.

I don't really mind if he never becomes very bulked as long as he has enough muscle to stand physical contact. In that regard judo training might be more effective than smashing the weights and trying to bulk up like a key position type.

Half back is his spot for mine. His marking and height then can be used as a strength as he has the mobility to play on smaller opponents. His fitness and ball gathering ability come into play. I'd have him in a role similar to Andrew Mackie from Geelong. The only downside is that you need clean skills to play half back, this is where a bit more body size to wear contact and a tonne more confidence will come in handy. Oh and you can't afford to go soft at half back - the body is for Misson to fix, the mind is for Neeld.

I still hold out a great deal of hope for Morton. Pick 4 in his draft, a fantastic first 2 years, then some injuries and some of the worst early-career regression I have ever seen. Not to stick the boots into Bailey any further, but the club (along with Cale obviously) has to take a fair bit of responsibility for the implosion of Morton's career to date. He hasn't come along anywhere near where he should have, physically and playing-wise, given the trend of his junior career and then first two seasons of his AFL career. Hopefully Neeld can get the best out of him and pick up where Morton left off at the end of 2009.

I'm not sure his best is all that good. Finally putting on some muscle will help, but he is still too flaky much of the time. Even when he was getting 30 touches a game, he still wasn't having a huge impact.

I remember watching Goddard play in his first few years and he refused to go anywhere an opponent but he's now one of the best in the competition and you'll never see him shirk a contest. I'm hoping that Cale will learn to become a bit more physical, he really does have some talent and whilst not as god as Goddard he could be a very good player for Melbourne.

It's funny how we have been rabbiting on here about giving the tall skinny players a bit of time but we don't give him the same benefit of the doubt, he's only 21 and I think the fact he got so many games in his first year makes people forget this. He's a tall skinny kid and aren't they supposed to hit their straps when they're 23 or thereabouts?

He i still there so the Club rate him regardless of our Rants.....It would be fantastic if Cale proved us all wrong and became a gun.....Let the new coaching staff have a chance with him....Maybe if he gets a rocket the penny will drop..

As is said above...he is still only 21.

Exactly the same scenario for Juice....The Club must still rate him.

Cale Morton must be an astronaught................................. he can only get a touch "in space"

but seriously, he's in the same category as allot of the players - was not in danger of delisting this year, but needs to really show something before his contract expires because to date he has underwhelmed

On the MFC website, Morton is 6ft 4in (192). He is tall enough to be a KPF. Frawley is 193. Rivers is 192. Cook 196. Yet Morton is playing a running midfielders role. Its a sapping demanding role even for kid with huge tank. His ability to cover great area quickly and often makes him a dangerous player to hold because often to match his pace and height you sacrifice one those attributes with the covering him. I hope he gets his act together because he could be very useful for MFC. And he is only 21yo.

Oh and incidentally, as the players filed out of the Long Room on Wednesday night, I noticed a few changed body shapes. Cale Morton who I believe has undertaken additional work with a trainer looked in good shape without having put on that much weight. I've previously expressed the view that I believe the change in coach will do him no harm. Matthew Bate looked as if he's trimmed down a bit for his new role as a midfielder. I think these guys have been unfairly maligned in the past. I don't see the value of people being highly critical of players at training but if posters have something to say then get it off your chests but please back it up with facts and/or logic without going overboard and hijacking this thread.

(sorry if I sound a bit like a schoolteacher but it's that time of the year and there's probably a full moon coming up)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
