I'm a big big big fan of Grimesy. But more so after the events of the past couple weeks. His interview at the Best and Fairest was particularly good. He's well spoken (in my opinion the best media friendly player at the club) and extrudes leadership through his expressions, comments and speech.

Winning the leadership award in a year when leaders were extremely scarce and questioned, having only played a handful of games tells me that the respect for him at the club despite his age is greater for those in the twilight of their careers. But to be modest and acknowledge Brad Green took great courage.

Finally, and correct me if i'm wrong or if anyone knows any better, but he also seems to be working pretty hard in the off season already with his fitness. Granted he's well behind the the others in terms of fitness, but this guy has dedication to get his body right.

Massive man crush. Injuries or not... Jack Grimes/Jack Trengove as our co-captains for 2012 in a trail year, and for one to be promoted as proper captain for 2013 depending on pressure, performance and injury.

I am absolutely hoping and praying he can have an injury free 2012 and really show us what he can do.

He's a terrific fella is Jack, met him numerous times and he is just a gem of a bloke.

Hopefully he can play 20+ games next year.

Not a bad idea TJoG. I too love Grimesy, but his inability to remain on the park for even half a season leaves me doubting his worth as captain. I agree with you about the leadership award, although he didn't have heaps of competition there this year. The thing I take most from that award though is that if he isn't playing, and even training for alot of the season, then his leadership must be something out of this world to win such an award. I would prefer to let him stay on the park for a season and then look at him as captain, but your idea of co-captains (I hate co-captains generally) with a stand alone to be chosen for 2013 is something that I would be interested in. It gets Trenners in where alot of people seem to want him, but takes away some of the burden of responsibility, and lets Grimesy into the role, whilst having back up if, God forbid, he gets injured again. I'd be keen to see this happen.

Yeah the injury cloud is a great concern. It's such a shame as I think he's a born leader. Would the club be willing to take a gamble?

Well to me, that leadership award says that they probably would be. As I said earlier, to win an award like that without playing or training for most of the year says alot about the levels and quality of his leadership.

Grimes will be a great player for the MFC; absolutely no doubt about that! However, to suggest he be given a co-captaincy with Trengove in 2012 is wrong in my opinion. However good both of these players are, it is still far too early in their respective careers to be suggesting captaincy and Grimes in particular, needs to put in at least a full season where he remains injury free before he should be considered.

I agree with all of the above but neither Trengove or Grimes are ready to captian our club. Moloney should get the job and in three to four years than one of these two will take the role. Grimes needs to work on getting fit and both need to work on getting better as players they both still are on a big improvement curve and they need to focus on improving.

Misson comes with a MASSIVE reputation, has done so much for St Kilda and Sydney, however i have a cautionary query at the back of my head, might be nothing might be something - it took Luke Ball leaving St Kilda to get his body right. Not sure if this should be directed at Misson or at Andrew Wallis (their physio), Dr Barbour (their head doc) and their coaching crew (especially Lyon). Grimey reminds me of Luke - Gun when right however St Kilda's group of support staff didn't get it right with Luke. I'm hoping it wasn't Misson's fault and therefore he'll be able to get Grimey right

Word was that Lyon didn't allow Ball the time to get himself right under Misson.

Lyon seems to realise that injuries are just as much the coaches fault due to his slap on Mark Harvey .

And I like the rest of you hope Misson can rebuild Grimesy.

Have issues with his kicking from defence tho' .

Grimes had a good 2010 season but this season he was prone to some terrible kicking.

Green had a fantastic 2010 season and has provided a decade of great service. This is why he got the role as captain.

I think Green deserves another 12 months. Lets not make Green into another Macca.

There's only one way to get degenerative OP - overuse and crap core stability - my qeury continues - who's role was it to oversee Luke's Training load and make sure his his core can support the load?

Not looking for perfection RP, just having a little query. Misson comes as the equal best credentialed in the business, however Luke Ball remains a little black dot. i don't fully know the ins and outs of it, overuse injuries happen - however everyone down a saintland buggered up there. Not saying that will be case with any of our guys just some food for thought and another point of view to balance out the gushing of praise thats going on here. Between Neeld, Misson and Neil Craig they should be able to get a gut busting preseason out without causing too many injuries

Grimes is not overly quick. This, as well as possible fragility, could be one of the reasons he slid to 14 in the draft. He lacks the raw pace to run around opponents, which is one of the key ingredients of a successful sweeper.

Last season, before he got injured, the opposition pushed up on him, but instead of beating them with footwork, he tried to hit teammates with precision kicks under pressure, many of which sprayed wide.

That said, Grimes' key asset is his ability to play body-to-body football. Keeps his feet, courageous, good tackler, instinctively knows what to do in a contest. Under a new coach whose core philosophy appears to be just those physical aspects, Grimes could thrive, as long as his fitness holds up.

JG just got seriously unlucky this year. I know he has been injury-prone, but a broken foot is something you can't do much about with conditioning.

If Misson can minimise the soft tissue injuries, he'll be a force.

I've met Jack and he is a great guy. Promising player too.

He's in the leadership group, so its not as if he isnt being developed into a future leader

As many have said, needs to play a few more games in a row before being a legitimate contender for the captaincy!

I have not heard boo from JG since he came off with the foot injury. Wondered how he has gone recovering, navicular fractures are pretty serious ! Destroyed egans career and I was nervous about garlands one 2 years ago .... Hope it's all going well !!

can't give him Captaincy he's hardly been on the park, let him play 2 solid years first then think about these things.

Nothing speculation and innuendo in the absence of fact.

When Luke Ball left St Kilda his body was fit and capable for AFL. This was after a long and dehabilitating battle with OP. If you care to do the research on OP, its treatment and management is a case by case situation. And in some cases there is not full recovery in the worst cases. Its a unreasonable and baseless slur on Misson and others to draw that long bow. Ordinary effort

Yes, very hard to tell as to what dizzy heights Grimes could scale save his tendency not to be on the park.

If as they say you have to be in it to win it, then id suggest you have to be on it to captain it. Just a reality , like it or not.
