To be honest.. Col's a bit of an enigma. Hes hot hes cold. During many of the games this year when we needed some senior presence Sylvia was amongst the missing.

He put s in some great games, but far too few. He puts in far more Good qtrs than he does entire games..

Hes replacable. He might be just fishing for another good contract at the Dees..or be genuine in starting afresh.

Wouldnt worry me if he went....Just make sure we get someting decent in return, thats all.

Colin has certainly played some good games against rubbish opposition, but I cannot recall many (any?) good games against good sides.

Do these guys have any credibility left?................................ Pencils at 10 paces.

Actually he has been very consistent all season with a couple of his better games against the better opposition.

I cant believe how quickly some people dismiss this bloke and move on to who we can get instead of him!!!!

Melbourne need to get their sh!t together and re-sign Sylvia quick smart!!!! The guys a gun and has been one of our most consistent throughout 2011...

This reminds me of the Davey/Green negotiations and we know how they turned out. I hope Col rememebers the patience Melbourne has shown through his injury riddled early 20's. This is probably the most important contract of his career so I don't blame him for seeking the best return.

Bla bla bla bla bla...when will the media move on to the as-yet-uncontracted list at every other club and start rumours. No agreement yet on a contract - of course there's no agreement yet! If there was, the negotiations would be done and dusted and it would be called a CONTRACT!

Sylvia, like Scully, will sign, or won't sign, at some date prior to the expiry of their current contract. We're going to have to live with that and trust that our club will put the best possible case forward to each player, and negotiate with a clear target in mind - a target that is shiny, silver, with handles, and brimming over with champagne as it travels around the MCG held by the MFC captain, whoever that may be, and shared amongst the MFC players, whoever they may be.

Thanks, D.

Some good numbers there.

Colin is lucky that his career is maturing just as Melbourne is starting to come good. He has a very real chance to be a high profile leader in a good side.

He finally gets the chance to discover if he can personally drag Melbourne over the line in big games.

I see this as Melbourne playing hard ball with its contract talks, like Davey, Green & Bruce.

Whether or not we lose Sylvia or whoever, we won't be left paying too much for players like we have in the past. My expectation is growing of landing a a big name when free agency arives.

If we lose him than we may as well keep Bailey whatever happens toward the end of this season because it will again push back our window - more than losing Scully would.

Losing both would mean a couple of years in my opinion.

With all due respect your window would shut before it ever opened. The mass exodus would force a rebuild, question is could we financial sustain another prolonged period of missing the finals. Who else would we lose? We would be ripe for further pickings.

We have to keep this group together, they offer hope. With hope comes memberships, sponsorship & a future.

I'm with Jakovich13, time for the dees to sort their sh!t out and end this disruptive speculation. If the dees are fair dinkum about playing finals soon then players of the calibre of Sylvia are critical.

It raises the question of why players aren't resigning.

Good first post. Agree.

Im just very disapointed in the whole scully saga and now this as well. I hope the club can get on top of these matters so the focus is back to being about a young exciting team on the way up. The last couple of years have all been so positive with the debt demolition , the emergance of our young players and the members really getting on board. We need to get back to that positive feeling about the club and it would help to have a win this weekend and Jimmy to come out strongly on the back of it .

The last thing we need to do is lose experienced players. Sylvia is a good player, we should hang on to him.

Trading in youth and trading out experience is the last thing we want to be doing.

Most of you are being very naive about the whole process... There are 44 players on a playing list. The FD can't throw unlimited money at every promising player we have and hope we end up under the cap. With uncertainty surrounding Scully, it becomes very difficult to manage the contracts until that is settled.

Every club has a couple of delayed contract negotiations each year, nothing out of the ordinary here.

Sylvia is close to Irreplaceable IMO. Not interested in a trade, sign him up!!

Goal kicking midfielders/flankers are gold.

Glad your not in charge of list management. Bang.

+1 the suggestion is just silly.

I definitely feel ( hope ) that Melbourne's "Brass" are slowly learning to be a littel more steeley in its resolve come Contracts. Theres no doubt weve been burnt in the past and some current players are really getting above award wages considering their effforts..

I think the MFC is slowly coming to the idea that "two can place this game" and still manage to keep a balanced healthy ( and growable ) list.

If players want to take the line that clubs are expendable, then so to are they.

Col's worth keeping, for sure, but if he goes, then he goes..and someone else comes. And tomorrow the sun will stil rise and on and on :)

youre right..its a balancing act.. balancing money and egos ( often inlfated )

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
