Beating Collingwood -

Ned

Jack Watts owes Collingwood and will do all his career for that gang tackle laid on him when he took the field two years ago.

I've been a relentless critic of Jack's and wouldn't even acknowledge his improved play in recent weeks - until the Essendon game. He's now starting to have the look of a competitor about him (he certainly did last week) and we (or at least I) can now see the upside if he backs himself.

Part of me thinks we are a shot against Collingwood and part of me thinks we're going to be blown away. If we are to compete, then Jack needs to break the shackles and absolutely rip the Pies to pieces. I actually believe he's capable of it and I know this is the stage on which he has to do it (be it this year or in coming ones). Let it be Monday Jack!

Go Dees!

Shows what a poor judge you are of footballers and in particular tall skinny ones that are drafted as schoolboys. The fact that you belatedly recognise his talent is more a reflection of you than anything else.

Take a good look at yourself because I'm guessing you are a super keyboard warrior that has never played football at any decent level.

Why do people hang so much on that stupid "gang tackle"? 3 blokes tackled him when he didn't have the ball, he won a free kick and was not hurt in the slightest... Yet people bang on about it like it was the most brutally humiliating initiation into footy ever.

He's been very good since he was the sub against GC, taking consistent steps forward. Had he held all his marks against Essendon it would've been an A+ performance.

We need more than Jack Watts' best to beat Collingwood.

Jolly ,Beams and Swan

Martin ,Trengrove ,Scully

If all six were available to the Demons right now , I'd take the latter three .

Malthouse will see the start of the future running rings around his hoods on the weekend .

Shaw ,Didak and Krokouer will be hard to pin down -as anyone from law inforcement will tell you .

1) Insipid way to respond.

2) I hate the way people say that if you haven't played football you don't know anything. Well then, let's leave all political debate to former politicians, all commentary about the weather to meteorologists, and any reference to food should be made by chefs only.

You're an idiot.

Well of course, given the ages of the two groups.

If you were Geelong, though, you may well take the Collingwood trio.

Agree, A mate of mine is a girl and know more about football and how it should be played etc and has never played a competetive game since she was about 13 and was no longer aloud to play.

Here, here.

As for the OP, I really don't know how someone goes from not rating a bloke and then saying he played a good game, and then saying the game against the premiers rests on his shoulders.

Strange brain logic.

Agreed Daveyt. Haven't posted much on here but been reading the past 6 months and what I can see is a heap of ppl discussing mainly hypothetical situations and trying to justify what they believe to be true as fact. The only fact is that most of us here have no idea what really goes on behind the scenes bar a few posters who don't share too much anyway.

We all support the same club and team so why argue amongst each other over rubbish, at the end of the day we all have our own views and opinions, whether we are right or wrong we shouldn't be abusing our own.

A strong club needs unity on the ground, in the box, in the offices and in the stands!

Go Dees!

Too right shadow... I don't want out supporters to turn into a club like St Kilda

If you ever sit in the middle of some saints fans, they get so close to punching on over issues like Raph Clarke, its just so stupid.

We are all so passionate, that's why we are on here, but at the end of the day we have realize, we are all on the same team just looking to share and vent.

Melbourne supporters these days come from a broad cross section,

some smart some void of clear logic,

But we are here for the future that seems tantalisingly just out there,

I can almost grab it, but been there done that, haven't grabbed it yet

May be this time go to the G on Monday give a yell,

Go DEES ! Give 'em HELL !!!

What we really need is consistent performance from week to week and throughout a game.

You dont have to be Einstein to understand this and agree (OOPS) no pun intended

In fact I have been saying this over and over

It is a simple equation and it has to be applied each week

Accountability: to themselves, their teammates, their coach and their supporters

Pride: In themselves and the club they represent ( The motivator.)

Skills: Use them

Pressure: Apply it

Teamwork: Make it happen

Belief: In themselves & their team mates.

To me its a no brainer.

If the Players apply all of the above I honestly believe Melbourne will win, but give Collingwood their due, it will still most proberbly be a close one.

However if Melbourne players dont apply all of the above I expect it to be Collingwood via 30+

As far as Jack Watts was concerned Originally I thought he was utilised in a way that he shouldnt have been especially in that first Collingwood game in which he was blooded.I saw it as more of a publicity stunt then in Jacks best interest .

Jack couldnt even stand on his own two feet without constantly falling over

It was like watching a young colt trying to take its first steps.

I thought they should have been a bit more patient with him before introducing him to A league AFL football

But I have to admit now, I have been Impressed by Jack this season, each week he seems to be getting better and better.

He's development at the moment is certainly on track and you can see the potential there

I hope Young Jack does take this game by the horns and stamps his authority on it, but even if it is not this game, I honestly believe it wont be too far away and that will be a day to remember

Liam Jurrah owes Collingwood big time after they gave up on him back in 2008. Monday will be the first time LJ has had a chance to play against the Pies. My dream is for him to kick a 70 metre goal to win the game after the siren.

The pity is that if we win it'll be attributed to Collingwood missing players... even though we've got our injuries too and a shitload of kids playing.

I do not care

I just want to win.

Winners are grinners and others can please themselves

To make it his 10th for the day RudeBoy?

We love your insight into Liam here mate - keep it up. Hopefully he starts flying for his marks again this week, would love for him to bring down a few.

Part of me thinks we are a shot against Collingwood and part of me thinks we're going to be blown away.

Same here. Either a 4 point win to us, or a 40+ point loss. As with all our games this year, we'll find out if we turned up to play in the first 15 minutes.

Tell me about it. I'd been told it was a pretty intolerant and humourless place. I hadn't experienced that until now.

It can be. It's gotten better in the last 12 months or so. Some of the Noobs can be touchy at times if you disrespect a player. I thought you'd admitted fault more than anything, and you'll find you're not the first to be critical of Jack. And rightly so. Most of the scuttlebutt has been constructively critical. What's weird here is someone picked a fight with you even though you didn't get carried away about your displeasure with Watts... Seems odd. Either way, really, the only thing to do is ignore...post-347-0-88148200-1307864957_thumb.jpg

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
