Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Sure he hasn't been playing well, but maybe some of those who poured %#$#$ on him, even suggesting his injury was a fake 'injury', might apologise now that he is out for 6-8 weeks - a little long for nothing wrong with him

He was playing horrible footy, and I see why people assumed it was a fake injury.

Six to eight weeks is a long time for something that was seemingly minor, though.

The injury list worsens, with Davey out for 6-8 weeks.

Davey will undergo minor surgery on his left knee, after scans confirmed damage to cartilage in the lateral compartment.

The club hoped that with a short rest period, Davey’s knee would settle enough for him to keep playing. But this hasn’t been the case and surgery was deemed the appropriate action.

PS. I feel sorry for DB.

Perhaps apologies from some are a reasonable expectation. However, if the injury underlies Flash's poor form, what the hell were the medicos and conditioning people doing?

Another question................. why do I feel decidedly more ill as this season progresses? How much worse can things get?

Yeah terrible for flash....guess that's why his season was so average.....Ive never seen his body language so bad he must have known......things cant really get any worse can they? Time to play the kids....

It's just silly now.

Personally I'd stop playing Warnock, Bate, Dunn, Newton, send Morton and Bennell to Casey and bring in the youngsters. At least the team will have a crack.

Another question................. why do I feel decidedly more ill as this season progresses? How much worse can things get?

There's always a silver lining.

- Jamar's injury gives Martin his first real extended chance at taking ownership over the ruck role= success

- Bruce quiting the club opened up a spot at half back for Luke Tapscott, who until the hammy, proved he has elite kicking and great attributes to play off half back

- McDonald's being pushed into retirement opened up a midfield tagging/inside role for Rohan Bail, who (until injured) showed he could be a long term midfield prospect as well as Gysberts to take on a more important midfield role, and he's been excellent

That's 3 simple examples

Now for the opportunties that could arise out of our more recent problems:

- Our defence (Grimes + Bartram + Garland + Tappy) all being injured could pave the way for Strauss, Blease and Tom McDonald to get a few games under their belt

- Our defensive woes have given Watts an opportunity to play a bit off half-back, which is great for his development and has given him a bit of confidence having a break from playing in the hardest position in the entire AFL (the Melbourne forward line)

- Davey's injury could see extra games pumped into Nicholson and Evans- let's see what they're made of

We're also going to see in the second half of the year if some players will crumble.

Guys like Morton and Bennel are 2 guys who could take being dropped and turn it into a position. Still plenty of time to finish the year on a high. Or do they fall by the way-side. At least we'll know.

I didn't know squibbing caused knee soreness.

I didn't know squibbing caused knee soreness.

I think you mean the other way around...

Aaron has an excuse for his poor performances.

He does not have an excuse for his poor body language and attitude.

Bailey has had no luck this year - personnel wise. 8-10 regulars out for long stretches and Davey, Frawley, and Jurrah playing injured with another few 'best 22' horribly out-of-sorts.

Apolgise for what?

He was playing when injured, you dont get leverage for poor performances because you're sore. Even more so, as a leader him playing through this injury has set his team back a 1-2 week injury is now a 5-6 weeker so no apologies required for mine.

He was evidently more than sore.

And how do you know there was not a point where it was a manageable injury that suddenly became serious?

I would say half the team, on all occasions, are managing slight injuries.

Really unfair.

The knee injury didn't prevent him going back with the flight or giving away stupid 50m penalties.

I can't understand sub par performances, but won't excuse his complete lack of on field leadership displayed in that St Kilda game.

Let it go. There's not a player going around who hasn't heard footsteps. He's been a champion of the club and deserves more respect than you give him.

I think that's a fair call but any apology would not be for bagging his performance but for those who said he was faking the injury. Surely that's fair.

Somehow I'm not surprised he's now 6 to 8 or even if we've seen the last of him. Too many strange things for my liking happening and now also two big betting plunges against us in two weeks plus the mother of them all last week. Some sort of internal meltdown going on. I've had enough.

Sure about that?

I would reckon a bung knee might inhibit pushing back into a contest.

Whilst we would all wish him a speedy recovery , unless he was injured in the opening moments of the Sainters game he certainly doesnt get off scott free for a rather insipid performance.

Are we to assume some would retorfit this excuse for many a rather medicocre performance for much of the year too ?? Did he go in injured ?/ Id rather think he didnt.

Im just wondering

As am I, but I distinctly remember him coming off the ground early in the season clutching his knee.

Considering his 2009 and 2010, I think it fair to assume this injury has curtailed his ability to perform.

It doesn't excuse other aspects of his game though...

are you serious mate? two big betting plunges in two weeks? we played north with injuries and the suspension to trengove, who always beat us. the bookmakers put up stupid odds about north and were rightly claimed. we then played st kilda, who again always beat us, and we had more injuries. then we came up against carlton, who many people expect to finish top four. you obviously dont know much about punting, or have any idea of value.

while i dont like doing it, i have bet against melbourne the last 3 weeks and it has been easy money.

The guy who should be bagged is ch 10 commentator Luke Darcy. He strongly implied that Davey was pretending he had a leg injury during the St Kilda game.

Well now he knows otherwise, but at the time Darcy's opinion certainly wasn't alone.....

Plus it wasn't just his movement and mobility that were called into question during that game.

maybe we are tanking for some good draft picks?

maybe deano is more cunning than we thought?

maybe pigs really truly fly?

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
