100 games for the Nude Nut (the Jones boy)

There have been many 23 year old veterans in the history of VFL/AFL including a few captains

I did say the "modern era" quite deliberately. It does feel as if Jones has been around forever though.

I like him and he is only 23 and one of our leaders. Really highlights how young the list is. Hope they can pull of a win for him.

I loved Jonesy's first game against the dogs and I have since admired his fierce desire to win the ball and do his utmost for his beloved Demons. He certainly leads from the front and remember he is only a youngster! Well done Jonesy on your 100 games. Be nice if we can win it it for him. PS I'm not mad on his nude nut or tats but that's just old fashioned me!

Got to admire his endeavor and heart.

And my one gripe with him he seems to have changed a fair bit this year is to give the first option and not try to break tackles every time he gets the ball.

If all our players gave as much as Jones did for the full 120 mins Jones did, we would be 5-2 right this minute.

Congrats to Nathan for his 100, surely he is what all of our other players should be aspiring to, aspiring to his courage, his endeavour, his loyalty and his never say die attitude, if only what he has could be given in a blood type transfusion we would not have witnessed what we seen against the Eagles and against the Roos last week, for all of you out there who rubbish or have rubbished Jonesy during his time with the Dees be ashamed of yourselves and stop being so sanctimonious, reading what you say gives me the sheets, so think of all of the positives in the man and not those minor negatives that you take great delight in highlighting.

"For my money I'd replace Green with him as Captain in a heartbeat."

I was just saying the same thing to a work colleague yesterday.

Green's form is too important to the team to lump the captaincy on him. He has clearly put too much pressure on himself. But Jonesy is different. His value is in his effort, in his toughness. You can't psyche yourself out of that, it's pure aggression and hardness.

Smash it up this Saturday Jonesy.

#2 has rounded into one of our best players. It has taken him time, but he is a permanent and important fixture in our best side.

Well done to Jones. I hope he gets to play 100 more.

how was his goal last week, shugged off a bloke and stepped around another for a semi-snap type of goal from 50 out, BOOM

Chapman-esque that moment.

Congrats to Jones on his 100th.

Never did I lose faith in this bloke to become a very good player such is his attitude to get the best from himself and desire to influence results.

He is one who has stood up against the tide this year and has continued to try to create. Congrats chunk on 100, I expect another 100 from you at least mate (and a flag).

With hair!!!

That seriously cannot be Jonesy.... i refuse to believe it?Im one whos been very critical of him at times but i do sincerely like the lad. I truly believe he'll only ever be a good c grader at best (my mates think im crazy and that hes a very solid b grader) and he has his defficiencies but in saying that hes become a pretty important part of our line up this year and i suppose you cant really measure his contribution in terms of kicks and handballs. He brings a great energy and enthusiasm to the group and im confident that hes doing a really good job in mentoring some of our young mids. Love the way he goes about his business and i congratulate him on his 100th this weekend. Heres to many more for the nude nut.

Gotzy 15... You are crazy. A C-grader at best really doesnt do justice to his current 2011 form. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_match_statistics?mid=5201 . He has come on in leaps and bounds this year.. Not only on the field, his character, heart and enthusiasm all play a part in his development as a player. his stats reflect some of the better B-graders and above in the afl this year. I think, like the fans on here hav mentioned.. U hav the jones tunnel vision.. U only look at his one or two mistakes rather than his positive influence on the game. If u think hes a C-grader then we must only hav about 5 B-A graders in our entire list..

I think you'll find it's "Yeeeeeoooooooooow!" :)

And I bet he's Amped!

I feel quite dirty after reading all this Jones-love on this thread, I think I'm going to have a shower. I hope he plays a good game Saturday, otherwise his bashers will be coming down from the hills to rip him a new one on this site.

I wonder how many of them have posted fluffy stuff on this thred, that have canned him in the past (and will most probably do it in the future). Will be interesting to bump this thread after his (should it happen) next bad game.

Sylvia just tweeted: "100 games out of 104 - since his first game @nathan2jones! Massive effort... "

I hadn't realised he had been so consistently in the side. Fine effort and I am happy to see he has continued to up the ante on his improvement of last year. One of the only leaders that is regularly standing up on the field where it counts.

I'll put my hand up (though I wouldn't say I've "canned" him so much as posted my disappointment in his form at times). Sometimes expressing disappointment is appropriate, other times congratulating a player on a reaching significant milestone that most of us would give up our lefties for, regardless of whether or not the bloke is our favourite player is appropriate.

And regardless of whether one likes him as a player or not, I doubt anyone would disagree that he's shouldered a huge workload since arriving at the club, and basically as a 'baby' has had to carry a pretty damn rubbish midfield at times. I think he deserves a moment in the sun.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
