Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cameron Schwab and Chris Connolly

Recommended Posts

Unsuccessful pair who have never done anything significant in the AFL.

Both were at Fremantle from 02 - 07 in which they took a developing young side, similar to ours, towards only two finals series and only ONE finals win in six years.

Then they were sacked, and guess who snapped these geniuses up? Us.

2008 - "Schwab joined the Demons..............contract worth almost $600,000 a year". WHAT?! Connolly was short listed for the coaching role along with Bailey, thank god he didn't get it, yet his mate Schwaby stuck by his mate and gave him a job. What does Connolly even do apart from waltz around like he owns the place and speak at functions? I rarely see him making an appearance down at Casey, and don't think Schwab has ever even travelled that far east - one of the more important places to be on a Saturday afternoon for a developing side such as ours. Honestly, apart from Cameron's 'Whiteboard Wednesday's (what a load of crap, surely he has something better to do), these two seem to be drifters.

Are these the right men to lead a developing football department?

Bailey is fine, we have the on-field talent, we are simply not being led properly.

Where to start?

I think you are very very misguided.

It's one thing to ask the question when you are trying to find the answer to some tough questions.

But some of the statements you've made are horrendous.

Both have done a lot of good for this club since their return.

Not sure, but I think you have your facts wrong too - pretty sure Connolly was in place before Schwab.

Firstly,

Connolly was appointed as Melbourne's General Manager of Football Operations at the end of 2007 by the Gardner Board, http://www.melbournefc.com.au/coaches/tabid/17074/default.aspx

Schwab became the MFC's CEO in 2008, appointed by the Jim Stynes Board. So your claim of jobs for mates is wrong.

Secondly, Schwab was not fired from Fremantle, he left of his on volition so he could return to Melbourne and be with his family http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/schwab-to-return-to-melbourne/story-e6frg7mo-1111115997452

So, you are wrong again.

During his time at Fremantle, Schwab transformed the clubs financial position as a new fledgling club, into one of the most stable and steady clubs in the AFL, this in a state that was dominated by the already established West Coast Eagles.

Since joining Melbourne, the club has managed to eradicate its debt, rejoin with the MCC, reconnect the various factions of the club, and has begun to look at growing it's asset base.

Clearly, he is extremely competent at what he does.

Since his arrival, and Connolly's, the club has bottomed out and begun to steadily improve with a youth theme. Granted, the opening 5 rounds have been disheartening, and questions are now being asked of our coaching team, namely Bailey. The rest of the season will decide his fate. If the players respond and show improvement he will survive. If not, then he will be replaced.

How you can excuse Bailey for our current on field troubles and condemn Schwab and Connolly, who have both done great work at strengthening the financial position of our club/ bringing together the fractured MFC community, is absurd.

You might like to consider for a second where we were before these blokes and JS arrived. It seems we have one unit of the concern underperforming, off the rails a bit if you like. I'm sure the club will give those in charge and involved in that unit a reasonable chance to correct the position. In the event that satisfactory improvement is not evident corrective action then has to come from the board. Its all part of the process, so no need for panic and certainly no need to hang anyone just yet.

We will see in a few months.

We don't have talent. We have potential. We don't have cattle - we have a bunch of calves...

And you're right about leadership - but I am more worried about on-field leadership than off-field.

Only aspect of the club unflogged in the last week.

I lay the blame solely on the wonderful two blokes who manage the change-rooms door on game day and never let me in to see my beloved demons up close pre or post match. Pair of buggers both of them and clearly at the heart of our poor start to 2011.

Pathetic stuff. Along with Jim Stynes, these guys saved the club. It's actually that simple.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
