Have discussed the captaincy issue with one of the club stalwarts (not a player) who is still deeply involved with the club and he states that Brad Green is a shoe in for the job. Best and Fairest for 2010, leading goal kicke,r a player who can play in numerous positions and still has at least 3 good years of football ahead of him, also he is tough, still puts himself in dangerous situations even after having his jaw shattered. Also he handles himself well with the press and for those who think different our immediate past captain was not a top performer in the public arena, no criticism of him but seeing as it was mentioned about Greens lack of public experience it is not the main criteria for being the captain of an AFL club.

Fair enough, it's just an observation i have noticed with Brad on the TV. If Green wants the Captaincy and is ready for all that comes with it, that's fine. He deserves it for sure B)

If on-field performances are anything to go by.

GREEN will be captain by a mile!

He is consistent and stands up in pressure circumstances. He gets the team started and so many times over the line.

Played like a captain this season and will play as one the next...

wellll, i think it will be green, then our next captain will be a longer term captain, i would love moloney, bleeds red and blue, i just doubt whethere in 4 years time he will keep his spot, so maybe short term captain.

whose going to captain our squad for the brisbane match in china?

It's clearly Green. He's in the middle on the header on MFC.com.au. Bruce hasn't signed yet and Green's the perfect age to allow one of the emerging leaders to take over in a couple of years time.

Good points JC, i agree with what you say, i am just wondering whether Brad Green actually wants the Captaincy? He will be a leader on the field anyway. There are so many extra jobs to do that come with the captaincy off field. For some players it is a distraction. Because we will need another 50 odd goals from Greeny next year. His on field roll is hugely important.

Interesting decisions will be made.

He wants it- I believe it ws one of the conditions he stayed- to one day captain his club...and he will be getting it-Green(captain) Davey(v/c) Maloney(v/c) Rivers, Grimes & Frawley in the leadership group- I'm tipping Bruce will not be there.

I prefer Moloney. Green would be a great captian too but I prefer someone who will be in the thick of the action most of the time and has a bit of muscle. I believe Brad Green will spend more time in the forward line as he approaches his twilight years. When David Neitz was captain he spent too much of his time walking around in circles waiting for the ball to arrive whilst we were mostly getting punished severely at the other end of the ground.

Don't sweat it. In the next few years the ball will spend the MAJORITY of time inside our FORWARD line B)

Would love Davey, but would be happy with Green or Maloney.

Those who want Chip... have you heard the guy try to hold a conversation?

Those who want Grimes... I think he could become a Melbourne FC great, but you don't just hand out the captaincy on the basis of 5-10 good (even great) games.

IMO Green is the only real choice, consistent performer last year, leads by example and is courageous.

Davey goes hot and cold,

Moloney needs to get himself on the field before he worries about captaincy (albeit i think he is capable),

Grimes hasnt played enough games nor has he had consistent enough form,

Chip isnt ready, nor do fullbacks often get the gig.

Green deserves the role but its nice that we have a few eligible candidates.

Bruce didn't go to China for family reasons. Does anyone know why he didn't go or has he just "cracked" it

He just got back for holiday with the guys in LA... so maybe his on family duties !!!!

Haha :)

Green for me.

He's a good age because once we want to hand over the captaincy to an outstanding younger prospect it'll fit with Green being in his twilight (as opposed to giving captaincy to Moloney).

You've lost me. He speaks well in the media, is obviously courageous (goes back with the flight almost every game). Does not tend to fade under pressure. Talks up the players on the field.

I'm genuinely interested in what I'm seeing (or not seeing). What do you want him to do?

Now having said that. Who is your viable alternative and how are they a better leader?

onfield all the guys are pretty good. But Green had a great year on the field.

I really like the idea of Green being captain for media reasons. He talks well in the media. Would be a great media face for the club. I heard him talking before a game on the radio...saying stuff like picking up the younger boys and taking them to training....making them train hard because he wants the chance of winning a flag in his career.

Green speaks well and is confident. Getting gigs on the footy show would be great for the club. He could do it for a bit then hand it over.

I personally like how the hawks have handled the captancy...mitchell held it until hodge was ready. I think green could do this until someone else was ready...that way we have some quality leadership in the group.

Greens media credentials? He is a regular on the afternoon programs on SEN, Harfords show and before that Mark Doran. He does speak very well and it has always been a strength.

As has been said, he sells the club and the players well. Spoke well with a nervous Chip Frawley on the Footy Show and sold the club there too.

He leads in many ways on the field. He is not a tough extractor but he is certainly full of courage and will go for a mark when it's time to go.

Plus, he has the ability to turn games and kick crucial goals, which is great as captain.

He could suprise to. Would not of rated junior as a great captain before he was, and I think he was definately inspirational. And you could probably say the same for Neitz. Sometimes the captaincy can bring out the best in a player. That is why I feel that any one of Green Davey or Maloney could be given the captaincy. Who knows, it could turn them into something even better. Only time will tell.

Brad Green for two years followed by Grimes in 2013.

That. Plain and simple, i think Green has shown great leadership on field in teh last couple of years, and i think he is right for the time. Grimes is such a natural leader, and could be a 8 year + skipper. Davey and Moloney to fill in if Green is unavailable.

I honestly beleive we have had a history of great captains.

Lyon - natural aggresive leader who's actions spoke as loud as his words, Great leader of men

Viney - Do as i do not as i say. Brilliant fit for the time, A captain in the middle is priceless

Neitz - gentle giant who rose to become a giant of the game, captaincy just suited him.

Jnr - Unassuming leader who willed himself to contests. Brave and fearless leader, great for our young guys

?? - needs to have a bit of all of these traits to take us to the next level.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
