Some Love for Jordie

jabberwocky

Recommended Posts

It's been said before but it annoys me that not many people from other clubs would know this kid's name.

He is a young player that has flown under the radar probably due to the spotlight being on our high draft picks. I'm sure he doesn't fly under the radar with his team-mates.

His in close work is fantastic, he rarely makes a mistake and hasn't played a howler. He wins the hard footy makes great decisions and is a tackling fiend (12 today). What more could you want from a 19 year old inside mid.

God bless you Jordie, one of my faves.

I hope he gets a nomination soon.

I've said before that I thought he was singularly responible for the change in attitude in round 2, whick kick-started our good run of form. When he then went out of the team, I was not surprised to see ourr performances dip again. I cannot rate this guy highly enough and have been on his bandwagon since day one.

The way he picks the ball up and gets handballs out of stoppages isn't just head over the ball hard stuff, its actually amazing skill. He has total disregard for his body and is always shepherding, tackling and all the other the team things.

Today he was up against guys like Bolton and Kirk who have been doing what he's been doing for over a decade and he's smashed them.

The 2008 draft was the one our future had to be build on. Watts, Jetta and Bennell are tracking well. We've barely seen our second and third choices (mainly due to injury) but our late pick ups in Bail, Jurrah and McKenzie are killing it. Everyone knows about Jurrah but Bail and McKenzie are gems.

Totally agree ddm. What puts him ahead of being just another hard nut is that he actually uses it so well, both in traffic and in the clear. IMO it's his skill that flies under the radar. And Jones seems to play better when Jordie's going well (there may be others, but Jones is the obvious one).

Jordie's been consistently good but just hasn't had a clear BOG performance to get that nomination. Just to throw an idea out there, if he was to score a nomination, could he fare better than Trengove and Scully in the Rising Star? I think his form this year have be more highly rated if he were a number 1 or 2 draft pick.

Totally agree. In my book, Melbourne's performances in 2010 track Jordie McKenzie and his tackling. Great in the opening rounds. He went out of the side. We flagged. He comes back & we're "back on track". I'm "drawing a long bow" but an incredible commendation for a 19yo that an AFL team's trajectory might even be associated with him. Tough, inside & skillful. What a combination. Everyone can recognise the high draft picks but premierships are built on unearthing gems among the low draft picks. And Jordie is an absolute diamond!

Mckenzie and Bail prove that there are very good players in the higher numbers come draft day.

Simply because GC get a lot of the early picks this year does not mean we cannot find good players

in the higher picks.

I think our recuirtment department has done very well with our higher picks.

When you have Pick 1 and 2 I reckon I could get it right but when you get a lot higher it takes real skill.

Good work Guys!

Sitting there late today, it crossed my mind how much Jordie is beginning to remind me of an early Simon Black. An under the radar player in his early years, but a very instrumental influence on his team.

Getting way WAY ahead of myself I know, but a great win can do that to you.

A week at work is always better after a win.

I agree, but not Just his tackling but his decision making allround, he's great with the ball & without. Just a hard worker for the team.

Jordie, is the most amazing story of the year for me.

He looks like our (Brett Kirk) in the making.

His work ethic, attack on the ball, opposition and running is excellent, for a guy that was a Rookie.

a certain guy from essendon who kicked 4 goals

Not eligible (too old)

McKenzie would have been in the mix more than once so i wouldnt be surprised he finally gets the nomination

We exist inside a little bubble, and if people outside the bubble don't recognise Jordie, it's of no consequence to me. I absolutely love him and I get the feeling everyone in the bubble - including those at the club - agree. I'm a huge fan.

I've been annoying the hell out of people just yelling a good long JOOOORRRDDDIEEEEE!!! anytime he's had a good burst running through the middle.

Considering his top strength is the in and under and pressure work, he's getting it as a link right in the middle of the ground a good pile.

Love him. I'll never get tired of the story about him voluntarily staying on the rookie list for 2010 so we could use an extra primary draft pick. Got us Jack Fitzpatrick.

The sort of player supporters love unconditionally and who brings so many intangible qualities to a side, which are priceless. He is Junior Jnr :)

Could not give a stuff what the general public thinks. The more he goes under the radar, the easier his life will be. For someone who is so "inside", he has very nice foot-skills and good pace too. He is the sort of player that won't ever win big awards, but will be instrumental to the team's chance of winning every week.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
