Some back grumbles i suspect.

Interesting that Trengove is still another week away.

Bearing this list in mind i would suggest that the only change we may see is McDonald in for Beamer.

Trengove & Grimes :(

That injury list seems to have taken a turn for the worse when 2-3 weeks ago things seemed to be on track.

Yeah, can't see too much change this week. If Beamer misses and Junior not ready I'd say Maric gets a run.

We always seem to struggle with injuries dammit...!! These guys need games in 'em!! Especially Trengove, Grimes, Petterd et al!

We could well be going into this week WITHOUT all of *ahem* Grimes, McDonald, Trengove, Moloney, Petterd. Massive. :(

Beamer won't play, his facebook said something along the lines of "what to do in Perth for the next few days". If he can't finish the game @ fly, there's no chance

I suspect you are correct.

Incredible injury list out at Collingwood:

Anthony Corrie (knee) - 1-2 weeks

Brad Dick (shoulder) - test

Nick Maxwell (calf) - test

That's it!

If Dick and Maxwell pass their tests only one player will miss out on a game this weekend ... and he's not a best 22 player ... and he could be back in a week anyway!

How do they do it?

Time for a complete overhaul of the rookie list next year. I can't see us retaining Maric, Newton, Hughes or Healey (all too injury prone). Jordie McKenzie and Jake Spencer to get uplifted permanently to the main list.

Maric is not a rookie, do you mean Meesen?

The last time they had such a dream run with injuries, they won a premiership.

I don't reckon that injury list is really quite as bad as it looks at first glance. Practically speaking if those players all come through fitness tests it really looks like this:

James Strauss (knee) - 1 week

Jack Trengove (hip) - 1 week

Jack Grimes (hamstring) - 3 weeks

Ricky Petterd (shoulder) - season

So fast forward to the lead-up to the game v Brisbane next week and it could feasibly look like this:

Jack Grimes (hamstring) - 2 weeks

Ricky Petterd (shoulder) - season

I don't think that's anything to be too worried about.

Why does anyone believe what the Injury Lists say? It's used to confuse opposition clubs more than anything.

If the injury lists are unreliable then clubs would be awake to that and just ignore them. Therefore I doubt their purpose is to confuse other clubs.

Any specific examples or predictions of how this list might be misleading??

Do you think Ricky Petterd is, in fact, going to return to the team this week leaving Sydney reeling and unable to gather themselves to effectively compete??

What about Hawthorn?

Lance Franklin (ankle) test

Rhan Hooper (hamstring) 1 week

Max Bailey (knee) indefinite

We've never had a list so short!!

Take out all the rookies and it doesn't look nearly as bad:

Jordie Gysberts (back) - test

Stef Martin (hip) - test

James McDonald (hamstring) - test

Brent Moloney (corked thigh) - test

James Strauss (knee) - 1 week

Jack Trengove (hip) - 1 week

Surprised with Trengove. On the Sunday Footy Show he said it was a bit of 'general soreness' and he smiled sheepishly when he said it. Quite surprised therefore that he's out for another week.

No doubt the $$$ have an impact but there is an element of luck involved too.

Generally the healthiest of the contenders at the pointy end of the season contest the big one. They better hope this isn't the calm before the storm regarding their injury list because their cup aspirations would go out the window with a couple of key players unavailable, namely Swan & or Jolly.

i think melbourne might be quite happy with his output and wanting to blood other midfielders, also being careful just in case while getting games into scully, lets be honest we have no shortage of midfielders.

Injuries are a result of many factors. In no particular order these are:

-the age of players and how developed their bodies are

-having players that are injury prone

-the quality of the fitness staff

etc etc

the catch all is definitely luck. All clubs have their bad luck and their good luck. Its not worth winging about it because you can't change it.

Ultimately the one thing that can be changed is professionalism. Players need to be committed to recovery, stretching, warm ups, warm downs and building up their core strengths and other parts of their body. This also depends on having the necessary money for facilities and staff to instill the right practices on the players. Our list has now completely turned over but the long injury lists and 'disappearances' of players for minor injuries remain. For that reason I am concerned about our professionalism.

On another note. There has been a consistently conservative approach to bringing back players this year. I hope that this is the reason that seemingly innocuous injuries cause prolonged weeks on the sidelines.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
