However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

I have never seen anyone shirk as many contests as Bennell has. The conest just before 3qtr time was embarrassing and cost us the lead going into the last quarter. HE was played forward because he doesn't man up!

It was impressive how we played as a team and how good Grimes is! Petterd was fantastic and is presenting very well. Trengove and scully are getting good game time. Frawley is sensational as with Warnock and MAcdonald.

Bail was great, ran hard all day and uses it quite well.

Juice wasn't good enough either was Bate who is just a plodder and lucky to be in the side.

Also Batram was very good.

You want to talk about embarrassing? You say Benny's 3rd quarter attempt was embarrassing, then you talk up Grimes. His (Grimes') attempt in the 2nd quarter deep in defence when Pendlebury (I think) walked in to goal, that was just as embarrassing as Bennell's mistake.

Bad post.

Great effort and commitment by all the players all day. Fantastic final surge in the last minute. All that was lacking was coolness to finish the job. Disagree with the harsh criticism of Bennell. Gave the forward line sparkle despite some errors. He will learn from this and deserves another chance. The umpires really stuffed it up by not giving him a free when he was rugby tackled late. That changed the course of the game and assisted the pies to get in front. Pettard and Jamar were great. Most importantly the game was played mostly on Melbourne's terms for the duration. Something rarely seen in the last few years. There is some light at the end of the tunnel.

And what does it matter if mistakes were made today. They were made making the play with very few examples of using handball to get out of trouble. Scullys errors were made by youthful endeavour - ENDEAVOUR - something that we didnt see last week. A Collingwood "friend" said that he thought it was amazing that all the Melbourne supporters seemed so happy and the Collingwood supporters looked liked they lost the game. Didn't everyone here say that we would be happy if we saw a team play with passion this week. Well that's what we got and heaps of it. Lay of Baily too all you Bailey bashers.

The whole team played out of their skins today. To think we have Sylvia, Jurrah, Morton, Jetta, Wonna, Bell etc out injured.

They just seemed like they always had numbers around the ball, and they just wanted the ball.

Yep, fair call. I didn't wince once at Scully's errors. He was absolutely going for it. The whole team was -- and that's all any of us can ask. I'm like your Collingwood mate, we basically won that game. Just a little too inexperienced to kill it off. Outstanding effort.

That's so true. Whenever the ball spilled there were three or four Melbourne guernseys around it. That speaks to work ethic and commitment. Great stuff.

Not directed at u Ned I just want too say all you critics out there yeah there is room for improvement but that was a great game of football and one of the better games from the MFC in the past 3 or 4 years. I for one went down last week and was bitterly dissapointed! But I could not have asked for a better perfomance today yeah we made mistakes but never gave up credit were credits due people great effort and stop being so bloody critical!

Harsh on Beamer, thought he was great. Had a stack of clearances and i thought he and Flash were the major contributors to our midfield dominance.

Bennell's effort was very very soft. I know he's just a kid, but he's done it a few times in his career already. If he can't iron that out, it could be a fatal flaw to his game.

I for one am truly and bitterly disappointed after today. I was stuck playing host with my brother down from Canberra and didn't get to the game! Even worse, I only caught the first 15 minutes on the radio! Bloody Easter holidays.

I was gutted that we didn't win I thought we were the better side all day and it was heartbreaking for the players for them to lose like that. No offence but I hope the players aren't satisfied with today's game, that's been a long standing problem with he club. Near enough is good enough, well its not.

I could not believe my eyes today, the intensity of the boys were amazing. The way they took on the game today was brilliant, Demons were all over the ball, players WANTING the ball. Although the game was stolen from us in the final seconds the boys played like they were on fire. Special note for McKenzie, he impressed me last week and did not fail this week. Grimes is just going to get better and better and better with more games.

Bail - surprised us all

Bartram - excellent tagging game

Bate - slow and unsure

Bennell - effective forward pressure

Bruce - some crucial turnovers

Davey - player of old

Dunn - some important possessions

Frawley - tough and uncompromising

Green - a wonderful leader

Grimes - superlatives not enough

Jamar - career best performance

Jones - losing his way

MacDonald - a great improvement

McDonald - age has wearied

Moloney - good , not great

Petterd - always a danger

Scully - some telling clangers

Strauss - responsibility beyond capability

Trengove - some important touches

Warnock - excellent all day

McKenzie - loved his game

Newton - didn't take chance

Dunn when it counted, useless as [censored] on a bull, Newton just the same as for Petterd for those who bag him in a good side will be a champion, we where two short for most of the game.

My take:

Bail - Liked his attack on the ball. Big game experience will do him wonders.

Bartram - Servicebale tagging job and didn't make errors. Solid pass.

Bate - Clearly needs more match fitness but I thought he was better than last week.

Bennell - Has skill and pace but needs to offer more. Not a good look pulling out of that contest.

Bruce - More skill and decision making errors. Looks a shadow of the player he was.

Davey - Best player on the ground in the second half. Damaging, line-breaking passages of play.

Dunn - Lifted and gave his all. Not sure if his best will be good enough when quality players return.

Frawley - Solid game without being a standout. Attacked the footy and man with gusto this week.

Green - A very good lead up forward's game but a couple of his gettable missed set shots were costly.

Grimes - Has there ever been a better 13-game player in the AFL? B.O.G.

Jamar - Sensational. 'Pantsed' Jolly with his aggressive ruckwork and often gave us first use.

Jones - Love his burropwing and bullocking work but needs to understand and play to his limitations.

MacDonald - Better this week and took some telling defensive marks under pressure.

McDonald - Clearly has lost some leg speed but still has the footy brain to be an effective contributor. In our best 6 today.

Moloney - Needs to do more. He's one that needs to improve or he'll be taken over by better skilled youngsters in coming years.

Petterd - Didn't realise he was that highly talented. A natural goalkicker and always looked dangerous. Great game.

Scully - Great experience for Tom to play in a pressure cooker game like that. Worked hard but will need to work on his marking at training.

Strauss - Struggled and seemed overawed again and I think he's one that needs to find his feet at Casey.

Trengove - Not prolific but did some very nice things with the footy when he had it. Applied 8 tackles.

Warnock - A solid Warnock game and a considerable improvement on last week.

McKenzie - Love this guy's work ethic. Has a chance to cement a spot in this side if he keeps it up. 12 tackles.

Newton - Some good early signs but looked lost after quarter time. I'd keep him in for the Adelaide match.

Bennell - dropped a sitter

Jamar - his jolly best!

Scully - many promising touches

No doubt he was worried about whats coming at the time which put him in two minds but he is expected to go 100%.

But no way was that a sitter, running back with the flight not knowing whats coming.

It does look like an easy mark on t.v but if you accually play footy you would no its by no means an easy mark.

I thought Frawley was fantastic. I detest when posters sum up a players game based on one action.

I loved how all our players, not just the kids, took the game on. It didn't work every time, and perhaps grimes especially tried to do a tad to much, but they backed themselves and took it on which was brilliant.

This leads to my second most loved part of today: when we made mistakes, we learnt from them and improved. Beams beat scully for a goal in the first, 2 minutes later shut him down. Grimes had a few errant handballs but immediately made up for them by putting the body in or providing a second option. We didn't feel sorry for ourselves today we put in to help our mates out and stand up to a mote experienced team

It was right in front of me and it wasn't that hard, it was a certain goal and at that level expected to be taken. Petterd at the other end showed the effort that's expected when a goal is on offer.

But Bennell did do some other nice things, so he'll hopefully learn from today.

It was the second efforts especially Scully in the last quarter, the running on, the gang tackles thats what did it for me today

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
