Well good luck to him, lets use our pick on a kid who'll be excited at the opportunity of joining the dees.

Not that I want him, but I thought that if a player refused to play for the club that chose him he would be banned for 2 years. If that is in fact the case, I hope someone calls his bluff, like Port or Sydney.

I'm not familiar with the rules on draft tampering but i'd think discouraging teams to pick you would be a form of tampering.

Well, that certainly does make it a brand new ball game. It all but certainly rules Collingwood out of the picture because Essendon has three picks before Collingwood has it's first pick.

This probably explains the comments by Eddie in Mx and it also explains why one Collingwood insider is suggesting the club is looking at an unknown by the name of Josh Thomas at pick 30.

I think it also now requires an investigation into the situation by the AFL because, if some of the stuff in that article is true, Ball and/or his management might be acting in a manner prejudicial to the draft.

On that basis, Daniel Bradshaw & Sydney should be done for draft tampering.

Possibly, but neither Bradshaw nor his manager has come out and suggested he won't be playing with another club which is the essential ingredient in a case where tampering with the draft is involved. As a Collingwood fan you might recall the Greg Chalmers case from the 90's. I think that was the situation in those days. Ball might be in a little bit of trouble if the AFL's rules are the same or similar to the one which saw Chalmers effectively banned from the AFL for a year.

Good luck to Ball, i hope he regrets those words before his career finishes.

But is this Legal in terms of AFL rules.

If it is allowed it opens the door to free agency & makes a mockery of the draft as we know it.

You don`t always believe what you read in the papers, but I reckon Hutchy is spot on!

I hope MFC have moved on and are not spending one nanosecond of time still considering picking up Luke Ball.

I never wanted him - as I said previous he has max 2 yrs left in his body which makes Ess and Coll better fits for Sept action (seemingly). However all this rubbish him and his manager are doing and going on with is really upsetting in terms of a total lack of respect for our club. I honestly can't wait for scully to line up on him in 2010 or 11 and run off him all day exposing what a liability he is.

My hope is that in 2 or 3 yrs time when players perception of where Mfc is at has changed that this sort of blatant draft tampering is allowed so players such as this get to us while our window is open.

Having said all this I'm really pleased we will be picking someone like Vardy instead - Go Dees!!

  • 2 weeks later...

After picking up Bradshaw (most likely) Kennelly,Seaby and Gary Rohan from the Falcons with their first pick, i think Luke Ball will top Sydney off because they are the stoppage Kings and Ball will be in his element with their gameplan.Brett Kirk needs to be replaced soon and Ball would be the perfect replacement and may even be a future Sydney captain. The SCG will suit Ball's game and we all know Sydney doesn't bottom out and Ball is ready to go Round 1.

Bye Bye Luke

Very feasible. Sydney refuse to re-build, which you can understand.

Dunno, I'm kind of warming to the idea of Luke Ball at 18.

Why?

They have lost Hall, Barry, O'Loughlin and Jolly. How can they avoid the re build? They cant.

Its Roos last year. Longmire will have no choice but to continue to pension off the remnants of the 2005 premiership.

I would love it if he went to Sydney at 14.

They've had one leg taken out from underneath them, and their long list of NQR recent trades isn't going to make them a premiership contender either. Meanwhile we're all about the youth.

And then there was a team called Port.....

I think Port could play hard "Ball" and select him at pick 16, after selecting the likes of Butcher and perhaps a Jetta at picks 8 & 9.

They did lose an elite player in Burgoyne, they will need some experience IMO.

Same here, would not mind if the MFC picked him at 18, he would be a great influence on the young midfielders, not to mention Scully & Trengrove...

I wonder if Bailey had his meeting with Ball today  <_<

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
