I was thinking of Ellis

Well now I think I'm going to die <_<

We have such a rich history of duds wearing the number 4, no wonder they finally decided to give it to Jack. He is the best chance we've had in years of restoring that number to its former glory.

No pressure Jack, you can add that to your list of things to do alongside completing VCE, winning the Coleman, a Brownlow, 4 B&F's, captaining 3 premierships, helping to save us from financial ruin, stopping the Swine Flu epidemic, solving the water crisis, and bringing peace to the Middle East

Stay on topic thanks Jaded, we were talking about Jack Watts - not Jack Grimes

Who's debuting Monday, Brent Grgic?

;)

Makes a lot of sense for it too be QB. Always seemed like the date they would work towards, and Bailey's comments in the media over the past two weeks have fitted in with that, if you pay close enough attention to his demeanor and attitude.

Monday is going to be a great day for our club, win lose or draw. Let's hope the boys can welcome Jack to the AFL in style.

I have it on very good authority that Jack Watts is a certain starter against Collingwood. I would not post this if I was not sure, but I have been told he is certain starter on Queens Birthday.

I can feel the board going into meltdown mode regardless of whether this is true or not.

Stand by mods :D

If Bailey thinks Watts is ready, then I'm ready. If not, then I'm prepared to wait until the time is right. I'm excited to see him debut for the simple fact that when he does, it will because the coaches have determined he is ready to go. No other reason is sufficient, e.g merely playing him just to pump up an attendance figure on QB. This would be reckless.

It's going to be a long wait this week to see if he will be named Thursday night.

What will increase the anxiety is the fact that if Watts is named on Thursday, it is likely he will be named on the extended interchange. Since the game is Monday, does the club have to name their final team by Friday afternoon or Saturday?

Ah hell, I need to smoke a J.

Well, I hope you are right. Because your head is on the chopping block otherwise!

I know for a fact, So I don't mind putting my head out. I knew the excitment it would bring, I wouldn't dare tease my fellow Melbourne members on such a passionate subject.

Steamin pile of bu@#!hit.....I think not.

I believe you and your claim is supported by the release of the article on the MFC website. Normally when players are endorsed in a headline as being "a chance" they play.

haha...im going to eat my words hannabal about being pateint!!!!

CAN'T WAIT FOR MONDAY!!!!

but please people, do not have rediculously high hopes...and btw, even if he doesnt play i will still be exited because we will win.

I hope people are excited for the right reasons, and not because they think Watts will kick 10 on debut and we'll win.

Yeah, if he does play my expectations will be rock bottom. That way he can only exceed them!

Would JW have exams coming up next week ? If so, it would be a strange time to debut.

I wouldve thought the same to be honest. However I guess that all depends on what subjects he is doing. I know when I did my VCE 5 years ago I didnt have any mid year exams. Just SAC's and stuff like that. So maybe he is doing a lot of Humanities subjects which generally dont have mid years??? Maybe our current VCE'ers could shed some light

If and I mean "IF" Watts plays Monday (I do doubt it) I would expect Presty in his form to give him a bit of a hiding, might be better to have him play against Essendon who have younger less experienced backs.

Presti will take Miller/Newton, I'd think. Especially if we play Watts further up the ground.

God I hope this happens....

But I will fight the urge to get my hopes up, as I doubt it will.

Don't think many footballers do VCE Chem and Physics, I think Jack'll be Ok :D

In all honesty IF he's ready, he'll play. I dont have huge expectations for him, but one thing I would LOVE to see...

Watts, snap shot from a slight angle, 30 metres out in the opening quarter for his first goal in league football, and the entire Melbourne team swarm him in celebration. That's all I need to see.

Me too. Despite the rumours and growing momentum I don't think it will happen this weekend. Things have taken flight, but I smell a letdown.

I'm torn.

This is the difference between a massive day for me & my family on Monday, including a great spread for lunch, beverages, footy, out for dinner. Huge spending spree. And Jack Watts v Collingwood.

Or,

A day at the footy with a mate and a luke warm meat pie....without Jack.

It's over to the selectors to determine my fate for Monday......please let it be the former alternative.....Because that way I'm not driving! :D

HT, I'll be doing my standard QB ritual either way - 6 pack before midday...God I pity those who sit around me, even the Pies fans..well, not really them

I think I might just splurge anyway, drag the family along....more numbers.....bigger crowd...make a day of it....bugger it I will! It would be alot more exciting if JW took to the turf.

Grimes'll still be there ;)

True. How good will it be when these boys have 20-30 games to their name. JG, JW, JS, SB, LJ,.....bring ..it..on!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
