Round 6 changes

Recommended Posts

IN - Robbo. 3 VFL games are plenty and by all reports he's been kicking 2 or 3 goals a game.

OUT Newton - The club must surely stamp his papers after 2 misses from 15 mtrs out. I was hopeful he turned the cnr, but he's simply no good :o

Maric for Jetta if Maric's fit enough, but I have my doubts.

OUT - Bruce

Thats all I want to see for sure.

Yes but he could have thirty-five possessions and kick five goals and you would want him out ;) !!!

He frustrates me too, but I can't see him not playing next week.......

Bruce is still kicking around his body without looking up the ground first.....

[censored] this pisses me off!!!

Out = Johnson, Newton, Jetta

In = Spencer, Robbo, Maric

That is all....

No-one stopped trying, their effort was genuinely wonderful and it should be commended........

But Bruce, while he can be very good, lets himself down way too often for a player of his stature with his disposal. We need him to be better.

But he will not be dropped, and while I am not sure he should be, he isn't to be protected either.

Leave Newton for 3 more weeks.

Robbo in, but not at FF or CHF. That has NEVER worked.

Leave Newton in to get some confidence. Leave Miller at CHF, and let Robbo be Robbo and not a Key Position Player who will get hammered.

Glad I didn't get to the game today though!

In robbo out newton.

Newton is rubbish. Does terrible things 9 times out of ten. Those who continually say to drop bennell obviously don't even watch the games. I love his tackling.

Agreee Entirely

Newton - Send him to the Casey two's to play out his contract.

Bennell - The learning curve continue's & after 5 Games the positives far out way the negatives.

Why in hell would you drop him, he is showing all the sign's of being a 10 year player with silky skills.

& Yes his takling was 1st rate again today.

Can't believe people aren't rating Bennell. We must have very different views. I see him as a bloody exciting prospect who is already showing signs of class. Must not be dropped!

Out :

Newton - will never be a decent player at AFL level. Has no confidence and lacks the skill-level and decision-making abilities to be effective. No point persisting with him. He has had ample opportunity. Must go.

Johnson - he is terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Bartram - bloody courageous effort to play today.

In :

Robertson - we could have done with him today. Could well have been the difference!

Grimes - if ready.

Spencer - I guess we would need a second ruckman if Johnson goes, that's all. And Johnson must go.

Would also like to see Maric play, perhaps for Jetta?

Add Bennell to the outs and I'd be happy with those. We need some class and grunt for us to even get within 10 goals of the Cats next Sunday!

bennell is class. the only reason you could drop him would be his light body

in - robbo, grimes, maric

out - newton, bartram, jetta

all straight swaps. i do love the way jetta chases though

If we can get a full side to choose from in the next few weeks Jetts and Benny would be playing two's. Only reasons being they are still not quite up to full AFL fitness and strength. With a few coming back into the 2's this week you might see them having a spell. jetts looked out of gas early in the 3rd qtr. Both had little influence besides Bennys fantastic fantstic tackling.

Robbo in for sure and if Maric does no play I think it is ridiculous we are crying crying crying out for a small fwd. The number of times we had 3 talls in the fwd contest the ball and the cros run it from there feet so easily was infuriating today!

Please please please make Newton go away.

If I have to see him play again I will seriously shoot myself. He is the single most infuriating, lazy, uncommitted footballer I have ever seen. GET RID OF IT!

In: Robbo, Maric, Grimes (if he got through the match ok)

Out: Newton, Bate (need to learn to play below his knees!!!), Bartram (very harsh given he played OK under horrible circumstances, but he needs a spell).

Bate and Newton are like having two extra goal posts up forward. Go with a smaller forward line, that can actually mark and kick goals. Please!

By the way, Bennell is ALL class in a group that seriously lacks class. Shouldn't go anywhere.

Isn't it great to have a whipping boy , truth is you can't fairly judge any forward in conditions like todays

OUT - Bruce

Thats all I want to see for sure.

You maybe right YM, but I don't think we can afford to have less experienced players in the mix ratio.

Yes his disposal skills are a liability but he finds the footy a lot, when we're winning the contested ball, they're not. He's got to work a lot harder on his handball accuracy.

When other players comeon, like Grimes, Maric, Bail, etc, then, maybe he'll get a rest.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
