  1. I think it's fair to say the Fyfe is having the best year of the 2009 draftees up to this point, with Martin not far behind. I can't split JT and Scully, both offer so much in different ways. We need to keep Scully.
  2. 1 Green 2 Davey 3 Bruce 4 Grimes 5 Jurrah I like the old boys, I'm a bit sentimental like that.
  3. It is the list of the 50 best players of the 2010 AFL Season. For some reason 90% of people think that this is a list of the best players in the league. I believe he does that list at the start of each season. This list a review of the season just gone.
  4. Spot. On. Get him out, if he stays on the list, he's about our 41st or 42nd most useful player. Take a punt on some bloke from country footy or something, anything but Newton! Hope you enjoyed the car, thanks, goodbye Michael.
  5. Certainly one of our best players of the 2000-2009 decade. See how he goes next season. Doesn't necessarily have to be his last although more than likely it will be, but who knows, that's 11 months off yet. He's still able to cover the kilometres as well as ever and finds enough of the ball. Obviously his disposal can be poor but he is definitely in our best 22 at the moment in my opinion. Probably because they are both tall and skinny, Cale Morton reminds me of Bruce. They both find a lot of the ball. Hopefully Morton can become the player that Bruce was in 2005 before his injury. - one of my favourite MFC memories. I loved that day. And Cam's "That's Gold!" celebration too, what a legend.
  6. I said before the start of the season that 8 wins was the aim. After the last month, I think 10 would be breaking even from this point forward. Feels good to say that. Looking at the draw, I honestly think we will be 11 wins 11 losses after 22. This week will be a very interesting one. If we did win 10-12 games, it would be a very rapid rise. I think the Hawks' rise was something that we should hope for, and I think we will emulate it. I think that a model of, starting with the season following the lowest finish(es), 7-8 wins, 10-12 wins, 13-15 wins, Prelim finals, GF/Flag(s), is realistic and should be what we are aiming for. Although if we get 10-11 wins this season that would be a great bonus and could put us a year ahead on that timeline.
  7. He's an interesting one. The fact that Jamar has been sensational has made his position even more interesting. I think he definitely has potential. It is going to be very hard to get spots in this team in the coming weeks, and I'm not sure he can play every week, but there will be a lot of matches where the coaching staff decide that they need him to support Jamar. He's still young and has not been playing the game for long. I'm quite undecided on him at the moment but he should get quite a few games this season and hopefully he shows a fair bit. I just reckon that when Watts and Jurrah are in the side, there won't be a place for him up forward, so then he would be playing solely as a second ruck, which clearly these days isn't preferred every week. Oh and can I also add, he should be second ruck and not Johnson.
  8. Fantastic! He was sensational on Saturday. Won't be the last for our young guns this year. Trengove will be in our best 4-5 players in a year or two, he already looks like a second- or third-year player.
  9. Bruce continues to get more than his share of possessions, and has an influence on most games. His disposal is not good and appears to be getting worse with age. 1 in 4 kicks is a shank, and 1 in 3 handballs seem to miss the target by 1 metre plus. He's still one of my favourite players of the last decade without doubt, he's clearly not the player he was, and that's probably where most of the criticism comes from. If you look at his performances obvjectively, he's still playing some good footy and is in our best 22 for sure. He's still regularly getting 20+ possies and staying involved in the game which is most of the hard part. Bate is the type of player who will take a month to find his feet so I was never concerned about his slow start to the year. He'll kick on from last night.
  10. It was a shocker, the Martin on-the-full was a disgrace as well - the other way.
  11. Yeah, they were all sensational goals. Looking at that, we did have a lot of long goals last night. I loved Greeny's particularly, he bombed it about 60, went through easily from 55. Ah they were all awesome, literally Scully's, Jones' and Junior's were all absolutely storming goals that got me up out of my seat. Ah what a night!
  12. Yeah Fevola's the one with the loosing culture! But yeah I have to admit, until we got six goals up I didn't remove the idea of a Brisbane comeback from the back of my mind. Just read on Nathan Jones' twitter that he said it was the best win of his career. Interesting call from Nathan considering that he played in a winning final against the Saints in '06. Shows how massive what is happening at MFC at the moment is for all of us and obviously for all of the boys too.
  13. Going through the fixture, I think we will get to 10-12 or 11-11 win-loss for the season. Very exciting times!
  14. 6 - Moloney 5 - Trengove 4 - Frawley 3 - Bate 2 - McKenzie 1 - Warnock Seriously unlucky is Jamar, Green, Petterd, Jones and Sylvia. Davey, McDonald and MacDonald were also good, Dunn did well to battle on after a smash in the face, Bartram's tackling was ferocious, Grimes continued to show that he is a chance of becoming one of the best players in the comp in a couple of years. Scully has flashes of brilliance, mainly based around his pace, and his goal was superb. Martin battled well and was serviceable, Garland had a couple of great moments and is finding his way back well, Bruce found a lot of the ball, butchered it a fair bit, but wasn't too bad. Bennell was somewhat quiet but his pace and evasiveness could well prove vital to our game plan. And I think I've successfully mentioned all 22!
  15. Yeah agree with those saying that a lot of the guys out of the side at the moment may well have to wait for their chance. Morton is straight back in obviously, as is Jurrah but that is a few months away yet, and the rest will really have to earn their spots. Guys like Bartram and Bennell will be the obvious ones under the spotlight but they are doing their roles at this point anyway. Bartram's tackling was outstanding last night.
  16. From a purely selfish point-of-view, I prefer our games to be on Fox. No ads during the quarters outweighs anything offered by free-to-air. Well basically I just hate Channel Seven's "coverage" - they are a joke, games three hours delayed, full of ads etc.. Ten is much better than Seven, at least they show games live. Fox is the best of the lot, they show all their games live, with no ads. That's all I ask for. The commentary is neither here nor there for mine, it can be slightly annoying but doesn't really affect my viewing of the game. And good commentary is great. Yes the exposure of free-to-air is good but from a purely viewing perspective, Fox can't be beat.
  17. Yeah Brennan is a big threat that most people haven't really mentioned. The bloke has freakish abilities and can turn it on and rip a game apart in an instant. Not sure who we should play on him. I don't understand the people calling for Grimes to play on Johnstone. Johnstone played behind the ball and around the back flanks/wings from most of what I saw on Saturday night. Grimes plays across half-back for us. I would take Grimes out of defence to play him on Johnstone just to prove the point that we got the better end of that trade. Everyone knows that the TJ trade has turned out superbly for us, we don't need to prove that to anyone. When Grimes gets All-Australian next year or in 2012, that'll be enough.
  18. I always thought that he was in the best 22, I just thought he would be best in a back pocket or h-b flank - I thought his elite midfield days were behind him. I never doubted his ability to lead, and he's shown that he is one of the best captains in the league at the moment. What a legend! All-Australian at 33?
  19. Bloody hell what a horrible 'show' that is. It's on in prime time on one of the two biggest stations in the country. Bloody hell it is so awful, seriously cannot believe they are persisting with it. So strained and unfunny and a terrible format. Even the house band are poor; they don't know how to end their little musical intros when guests come on etc.. How people get paid to put shows like this together/write the crap that constitutes the 'comedy' for this show, is truly beyond me. Absolutely horrible.
  20. Yeah I don't think he's name #23 at this stage, but he's there or thereabouts. He is still very young and there's definite potential there from what I've seen. Would be good for him to get a run in the side at some stage in the year, if he could get 6-8 games in the middle/latter part of the year that would be an ideal chance for him to show what he's got. Right now though I'm not sure he'll get a game for a few weeks. As mentioned, Sylvia comes in this week, Rivers soon (not sure on when), so he will probably have to wait. But BOGs for Casey aren't doing his cause any harm.
  21. I think finals for next season is now a realistic goal - finals this year would just be a bonus. I think, considering all of our next 19 matches, 7 wins would be breaking even at this stage. 7-15, so we are winning a third of our matches. Next season, winning half of them would be the realistic aim. Don't get me wrong, I think we could win 10 this year, and goals can and should be readjusted when required, but double-wooden-spooners can't expect to win three times as many games the following year. Sydney of 2009 would be a good case of the type of season I would like us to have this season (in terms of breaking even, better than that would of course be fantastic). They got a lot of matches in to players who are going to become key for them and this season they look to have taken a significant step up. Sydney won eight matches last year.
  22. Yeah I think this is right. Brad Green's only just turned 29, he has this and two more seasons at his peak for sure, and could play on for a season or two after that (until 32 or 33). Junior Mc has shown that this obsession with thinking that players can't perform once they are past 30 is nonsense. Greeny could seriously play close to 300 games. And it would benefit Grimes not to give him the captaincy until he was 23 or 24 and had 100 games under his belt I think. Changed my tune a little bit, but I think captaining a group of men at 21 or 22 is too young, mid- to late-20s is better. Ah so excited about the future I could crap on about us all day! And even after Moloney bounced it 15 times in the space of 45 metres in the dying seconds yesterday! Moloney's a brilliant bouncer as we saw, but Brent, you are allowed roughly 15 steps, not just three of four!
  23. I only listen to AA on Wednesdays and Thursdays as that's the only time between 4-7 that I'm in the car (and at other times it's JJJ or cds) and that's only for about 40 minutes, but this week I might have to turn on the old wireless at home, especially tomorrow afternoon. Last Thursday was quite hilarious, Rowey and Cornesy crapping on about how there is no way that the Cows can let themselves lose, they just have to find a way to win. It will be particularly funny because the exact lines "The first two weeks there were excuses (!!!) but this week there is no excuse, they simply must win" was trotted out several times from Rowe and Michaelangelo Rucci (I listened to the Saturday sports show on the way to soccer). Surely the injuries will be the excuse this week. Adelaide Crows fans sh*t me more than any others because they are the most ignorant, uninformed, biased, fickle fans I have ever known. The small-minded SA mentality certainly perpetuates this. I know a lot of knowledgable Crows fans, but they are 1 for every 100.
  24. He is a gun. He is already in our top half-a-dozen players and has to be the next captain, next year or year after next. Is next year too early? He'll only be 21 at the start of next year. He would be up to it no doubt. When he gets the ball, he just has vision, poise and seems to find time with the ball like the great players do. I feel as confident when the ball is in his hands as I do when it's in Greeny's or Flash's. In fact he's probably our third best player behind Davey and Green, truth be told. Well Sylvia, Jurrah, maybe Moloney might have something to say about that, but it shows the class of J. Grimes that at 20 and after just 15 games, he's already held in that regard. Bloody champion. He's gonna be our next Todd Viney. Maybe even better.
