I would be interested to know of the 22000 so far, how many are NEW for 2009 - not a member in 2008 - another stat that would be interesting would be how many of 2008 memebrs still haven't re-signed.

Last year we had 29619 members, so we really need 32000 this year to say things are on the up.

An announcement of a major sponsor could inject a sudden rise - through publicity alone - in memberships.

Can't wait until the season starts now.

<< New son, 4 months old, looking forward to taking he and his sisters to the footy. Go Dees!

Currently we have 21,986.

C'mon lets get over 30,000! :)

Maybe the Bushfire appeal slowed things up a bit, i still believe we can hit 30,000. Round 1 is a Home game.

Could you just imagine the influx of members if we win this game against roos? Could be pushing 25,000 by rnd 2.

Does anyone know how many on average we would sign at the first G game each year.

On 'average' I would 'guess-timate' approx. 1,000-2,000, maybe more depending upon whether a home or away fixture.

This year i hope the club is aiming to really maximize that round 1 fixture, We must sign everyone who is not already a member. Like the Buskers in New Orleans if you do not sign up make them feel guilty, conversely by signing up you join a big Family who lives at the MCG.

Round 2 being Collingwood who we seem to lift against so the first two games are very important from a membership pov.

If we could go into that Round 2 Fixture with a win under the arm the crowd will be Huge. Round 1 is important for the Finances!!!!

Congratulations Gippy. I have 2 little demons of mine own that bring a world of joy to the football.

Congrats Gippy! Great news!

That loss against Hawthorn really did cost us at least 5000 memberships...

Yeah I like the header, the hiding Demon behind the current emblem

I renewed my membership last week. Went to the shop at the MCG and I'm sure the bloke behind the counter almost fainted when I walked in! The place is so inaccessible it aint funny, I was probably the first walk in customer he'd seen in weeks.

And I'm sure that if the place was easier to find we would have quite a few more signed up.

Congratulations Gippy Dee. I was in the same position with my lil tacker april two years ago. It's very satisfying, beginning that association with the dees. In fact, my little fella's first phrase was 'go dees' (actually said DE Dees! with a little fist pump).

My partner renewed my membership for me and to my surprise she also joined up with me along with reserved seats and she is a Richmond member of 15 years so thats an extra and does support the dees when we dont play her beloved tiges,

On an idea how to keep members Richmond have a players and suporters night at crown for all members 10 years and over does anyone think this may help keep the faithfull paying up for this extra incentive i went to this night last year and wished we had one and i did enjoy the free crownies even though it went for 2 hours , i think i got a fair whack of her fees back in abmer fluid, all players were there to talk to and get merchadise signed and photos i was impressed with this idea.

Getting Collingwood in Round 2, even though it's an away match, is a huge bonus to the MFC.

I agree that the MFC store is not in the best of locations during the week, but I think it's in a great spot for match days. I've been there a few times when Melbourne's been playing at the G and it's been packed out. Plus, having the store at the MCG shows where we want our home to be.

On match day it's pretty easy to set up dozens of stalls outside and inside the concourse, and there are designated merchandise shopfronts scattered around the ground floor. Beefing these up and making sure they are visble and quality is more important on match day - I'd love to see the figures on exactly how much merchandise gets sold where, but remember that 'packed out' in the Melbourne shop really only means thirty or forty people tops, and it's only for a short period before and after the game.

I'm convinced that a presence in the city somewhere relatively visible whould be an important 'hub', it would act as a billboard, a contact point, and an all-week sales point.

It wouldn't cost a whole lot either.

Yeah, it's in a pretty ordinary location.

They also advertised a weekend sale last year and when I got there they'd closed up despite advertising that they'd be open until x time.

I'm not a huge fan.

The difference between the MFC and Sydney presence at the Princes Park match was pretty stark, and while Sydney were still selling after the game we don't even do so at home and away games.

I'm sure there's a market there after a decent performance - people come out happy with the Club and are happy to spend some money on merchandise, or decide they want to come to a few more games this year and will sign up for a membership.

The membership tents should also have EFTPOS facilities - I know at least one other Club does.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
