Green now re-signed

Because it took him until the last hour of trade week to resign and he (in a way) stuffed the club around by not committing, will this hurt his chances for the captaincy.

Before all this came about I had him as the captain but now I would think Bruce or Macca might have the edge.

Thoughts?

I think you are spot on M4B. Green now has no chance of being the full time captain of MFC, Bruce will have for next season and possibly the next and then it will Brocks time to shine as the captain

I don't think it'll hurt his chances for captaincy at all. We are all adults here.

anyway I've got Brock Captain.

Agree Pipes.

Bruce i think will be captain, though i really hope Green is captain with Brock deputy.

It's re-signed. Not resigned.

They mean the opposite thing.

On ya, CB. We need to take a stand against these things. Also, when referring to Draft Picks, use the terms "better" and "worse," not "higher" and "lower." Draft Pick No. 3 is "worse" than Pick 1. But "lower" could mean both "a smaller number" (1) and "worse" at the same time.

I will spew if anyone other then Brock is appointed captain next year. The club needs to take a stance... youth is the way forward and Brock McLean will be the leader of this club for the next 10 years.

Brock all the way

Green: obviously not

Bruce: Not a tough captain

McDonald: Leader?

Miller: not good enough

Posted

Macca- Too old, has 2 years left at best.

Bruce- Possible, but tends to get lost in some games, how will he handle the responsibility of Captain?

Green- My pick 8 weeks ago, his flip-flop will i or wont I during trade week has hurt his chances.

Brock- Can handle the pressure no doubt, and is a great leader, but is he mature enough? Cannot afford off field dramas as captain of the MFC. Smokey, but needs a year to show his maturity.

Miller- No chance in Hell.

Rivers- This guys is a dead set leader! Wont be given the skipper role, but watch this space. He is a general and knows his footy. A true asset to have at the Club.

Will the dees be one of the St kilda sorts with a rotation (that system is B.S if you ask me!), or a Joint captain club where we cannot find a clear standout?

How can you really want him as captain?

Its quite clear that MFC is not his prefered home. Look how much he screwd the club around, and dudded ou chances of participating in the trade. Particually for picks!

Do you have to be the best at the club to be captain?

Brock- to immature AT THIS STAGE

Rvers- A captain actually needs to be playing

Green- Can go to hell

Buce- Not tough enough

Maca-isnt the future

Miller- A stand out IMO. Make a statement.

Maybe Chop Chop as a smokey????????

So you were in the trade rooms were you?

You saw the MFC begging Green to stay, and Green telling them to "go to hell" so to speak?

Totally agree. Everyone has to get over it. No one knows what was going on.

In my eyes it looks like the club didn't agree to the three year deal until they had spoke to other clubs on Green's value.

When we couldn't get a top 20 pick for him the club agreed to the 3 year deal.

In my eyes it looks like Green could have been getting shafted by the club.

I dont think anyone on the list is a real captain except Brock. needs to stay on the park for another year though.

I don't mind having Bruce and McDonald as co-captains for another year.

He is 27 and this is his profession. He was making sure he got what he was worth. Big deal!! I don't hold it against him.

Green for captain. Miller is the only other option!

According to him he was never leaving:

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/D...px?newsid=68918

How much of his word i can take remains to be seen but there's no doubt that on the field he showed much better leadership than Bruce, i would still have him in front for the captaincy.

However i'd prefer we move away from those two as they simbolise and epitomise the Daniher era. Don't get me wrong i'm not a ND basher, but the fact is that he eventually became mates with the players rather than their coach and from that we went soft. Until we appoint someone new entirely, Daniher's spirit will still live on at the MFC.

It's Brocky for me at this stage, Miller as a smokey.

Quite frankly he had a lot more credibility and believability ( to me ) before he uttered this rubbish. He probably thinks its what we all want to hear ..but its just cr@p to the max. He WAS prepared to leave the club. And thats fine.. No problems with a player pursuing his craft..but less of the fairytales please Brad <_<

He's decided to stay with us because he got a contract more in keeping with his wants..again fair enough. Make him captain ? Im inclined to think NO..but if Bails wants him to..well thats his job.

All tonic for the unwashed 'bub. These cliches have a place in football. They signal normality. If someone decides its necessary to go beyond the cliches, then its usually a sign that something is SNAFU.

He surely won't be able to pull the wool over the coaches' eyes though, and if he was holding them to ransom he should be removed from the captaincy calculations.

I love Green, is one of my fav players and is arguably our best player.

I have no ill-feelings to what he did as bottom line, none of us know what went down behind closed doors, both Connolly and Green have publicly stated that they were very open and honest and Green always maintained he would only leave if the club thought it was best and they could get a good deal, bottom line, he is going to make 1.1 over 3 years. He could have made more elsewhere but wants to play for Melbourne.

Also, Green is seen as a leader at Melbourne, a strong leader. Being awarded the MFC leadership award for 2008 by the match comitee proves this.

I would be more than happy with Green as captain, he is a demon for life now, a one club player and will be a life member. All great news.

HOWEVER.

Our captain should be Brock Mclean. He is the clear choice, he is the obvious leader of the brigade of youth, is again arguably the best player and is respected as part of a senior group at the club that is beyond his age.

A great captain must have 7 attributes in my opinion.

1. The respect of the club. Players, Coaches and Fans. Most importantly respect them back. (check)

2. The ability to lead men who have more experience (check)

3. The want to stand up when it's your turn (check)

4. Playing ability (check)

5. A love for the club (check)

6. The desire to earn their spot everyweek (check)

7. Lead by example (check)

Brock passes in all of my personal categories and should be captain.

Only one other man passes in my opinion, only one other player could possibly truely deserve the captaincy, and that is Miller.

He would die for the guernsey and thats why we love him. He would be my 2nd choice.

To the thought of Bruce/Macca I say no way.

I definately think green should be the captain. His actions on the Footy field warrant it. What happened over draft week is in the past. Remember all players are tradeable. Green didn't want to leave the MFC, he wanted a good deal. He stood his ground and got it. Move on Captain for sure...

I'm on the same wavelength as you Wrathchild, we're singing the same tune, so to speak. I also agree that we should not go down the Saints and Swans path with rotational captains. To me it's not necessary. Just have a Captain and Vice Captain with their leadership group of six or so for support.

Do you have to be the best at the club to be captain?

I believe the Club Captain, yes, has to be one of the better and more important players at the club. Not necessarily the best. But one who can lead from the front, set the tone for his teammates. IMO Brock McLean has this in spades out of our list.

BTW, not sure why Green has to go to hell for you Rusty, he has signed on at the club after carefully considering his future, he was never going to let the club hang out to dry in the end. (ie to the PSD)

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
