How's this for a bump?!?

I came from demonology originally, can remember thinking this joint was wack and the 7 active posters on demonology were way smarter than you bunch of lunatics. From memory it was around the time Ricky Petterd was running around, always liked that guy.

Anyone else from/remember demonology?

Haha yep like you I was originally on 'ology then found my way here. I initially liked it because it did seem a little more grass roots, but 'land took over pretty quickly when I realised there were a lot wider ranging opinions here (EDIT: plus it was actually simply a better site!).

Demonology had it's use for me though, used it to be able to get in touch with the passionate Dees fan who used to do the Mohawk for a University Documentary. Blimey that was 13 years ago!

I was another former ‘ology member before coming to Demonland. The tipping point for me was when there was an attempted takeover by a couple of people with some kind of nefarious agenda (can’t remember exactly what it was though).

There were a number of members who came here at that time, most of whom I can’t remember... RobbieF was one (whatever happened to him?).

I was on both for a long time and, like others, moved here when the attempted takeover failed.

I seem to recall that the guys that wanted to take over the site would not allow any negative remarks re the club/administration of the club/teams/players etc.

Have been wandering around here ever since.

Blimey I don't think I was paying close enough attention to all the takeover stuff! I must've left before all of that, though I definitely noticed topics would get derailed by agendas and feuds between members. Sounds like the chaos mimicked the fractures at the club at the time!

I came here as there just wasn't enough lunatics on there.  Well aside from Rangey anyway.

I was more active on ‘ology than ‘land in the earlier years too, until I helped move ‘land on to the platform it’s still on today. That was in 2005. I still remember it, we went live the day before my birthday, I was home sick with a shocking cold. You’ve all been stuck with me as admin, hater of haters and defender of whipping boys ever since :)

At one point when ‘ology was struggling and Tim was offline, I was working on a plan to move Demonology on to the Demonland platform, but re-skinned to look exactly like Demonology, to keep the members who liked the simplistic look and feel ‘ology had. There was a hidden forum on here that if you clicked on it, took you what for all intents and purposes was Demonology, but was just another corner of Demonland. Never got that plan off the ground though.

There are still heaps of the original ‘ology crew kicking around too. Baghdad Bob, Pollyanna, Axis of Bob, RGRS, demonstone, as well as the ones who have posted on here already.

The ‘takeover’ of ‘ology was done by a lunatic who had been banned from ‘land and was a serial pest. I lost track of what happened after that.

Yes it is and I still post occasionally on there, so do some other posters here.

I came over here when the traffic on ology started to seriously drop off, I'd post something at say, 7 at night and go on the following morning at 10 and mine would be the lsat post on the site.

It was a real battleground and there were so many fights it was unreadable, sane people went crazy over there.

Yeah wow.. who's running it now days?

Demonology was at his best from early to mid 2000's. They use to get some real quality training reports and photos. I didn't post there, but use to read it a fair bit.

Wasn’t there briefly a 3rd site too? Ology, Land and another

Also I think there was some stat about Demonland being the most active of all supporter sites or had more visits a day than AFL.com, something like that

There was. I can’t remember what it was called but it was run by a guy called Deestroy (no relation to our own @Deestroy All) who had ragequit from Demonology for some reason and started his own community.

It was just called “Nasher’s test” - pretty sure the skin got wiped in one of the software updates years ago.

I reckon I’ve still got the original Demonology source code at home. If I find myself with a few spare hours with nothing better to do, I’ll have a go at recreating a Demonology skin on here and we can have a throwback Thursday or something.

I was a regular on Demonology from 2005 and had racked up 999 posts before Dr. Who and his brother conned Tim into handing over the keys to the site and totally ruined everything.

Some posters I remember fondly are GSmith12, Hatchman and RobbieF.  Where are you gentlemen?

GSmith was a very respected member.

I hope he is still ticking along.

There was a site called MFCFlame which was the first one I joined. I remember old55 (Pollyanna) and Rono (TGR) were on it. Then found Demonland which had a whole lot more traffic. Demonology was revived on a new platform by a young fella named Jarrad - I think with Tim's blessing. He did a good job but it never really gained the traction of the old site. I went across (different user name to here) but haven't been on for a couple of years. Got jack of old mate Range Rover hijacking every thread.

I never liked the look of Demonology. When I first became interested in posting about the MFC, Demonology had that weird takeover happening (who the [censored] bothers to do a takeover of a message board?) and I also felt at the time, the content of posters here was far superior.

I hadn't realised the likes of @Pollyannaand @Axis of Bobwere posters over there, because they are some of my favourites now. I do remember really liking RobbieF's posts too.

I've now been here 12 years. Time flies. It's really helped me download after all our terrible losses in that time, from 186 to the Neeld years. Thanks to @Whispering_Jack, @Demonland, @Nasher and @Grapeviney for providing a space where it can happen.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
