I think Martin deserved to be named on the ground after last weeks performance.

As much as I love Jmac , Yze and White the bench has gotta be Bell, Newton, Valenti & Martin.

The other 3 can have the farewell games at the G - they deserve that later in the year.

They've named Johnson and jamar on the field. Martin played well. I'd expect J.White not to make the trip.

Davey will play.

Yze I don't think will play, Bell would get another chance on last week.

McDonald is the only question mark? If selected I'm not sure who they would drop......Bartram, Valenti or Jones may be given a rest if anything.

In Davey

Out Green (inj)

Bench will definitely be -

Daniel Bell Stefan Martin Michael Newton Shane Valenti

Juice will start on the ground again.

Dissappointing to see Bruce named again, how has he escaped a run Sandy so often?

He has escaped a run about as well as you've escaped the straight jacket for all these years YM! ;)

I would like to see Davey for Green the only change, but I believe JMac will come in for Bartram or Valenti aswell

i think you'll be right with that. wouldnt surprise me if bartram got a rest. bell deserves another week, none of the other smalls will be dropped.

white wont come in unless another ruckman is dropped. perhaps he could replace stef martin, but i could only se that as a step backwards for everyone involved.

i dnt see where yze fits in at this stage. if he is going forward he could only replace newton off that list and i dont think he will. h could replace bell or valenti but i dont think they are on the cards either.

Interesting to see Adem Yze in the side.

Given Lovell's coaches report, that's not too surprising.

Would expect White to play.

Why's that? Do we want an extra tall? If Newton plays, it'd be better to have an extra runner at Subi.

Since Bartram's listed in the 18, it'd be a departure from recent convention if he were the one to miss (unless injured).

I am also disappointed that Petterd wasnt named.

He only played 80% at Sandy, so they might not feel Petterd is fit enough yet.

OUT: Palmer.

So freo are obviously tanking. To rest Palmer who has been a revelation for them this year shows how much Frematle want to lose this game.

yeah good point, which means it'll be bell or valenti (more likely valenti) and you wouldnt think either.

really wouldnt surprise me if mcdonald came back via sandy. he was named on the bench not in the team. i wonder if he is named for sandy.

also cant wait to see were grimes is playing...but wont be dissapointed if he's in the magoos again.

Not match hardened yet. Only played about 80% with the Zebs last week.

I think Yze will get a call up. I still find it astonishing the amount of [censored] he cops on here. Fact he is he has achieved more than 95% of our current list probably ever will. He may not be the way going forward, but he is one of the stars of our past, and one of the most influential demons for me to watch growing up as a kid. I still remember sitting there at the g with my dad as a kid when he first burst onto the scene and noone even knew how to see his name and we were all yelling yze!!! (pronounced ye-zee) lol

If Baileys picking on form like he says he is, then Yze has earnt the call up with 12 tackles and 17 1%ers!! He's in the ebst every week, and if thats not work rate and defensive pressure that earns a call up, then nothing is.

Petterd still isnt up to match fitness yet. Give him a few more weeks to build on that and then get a few games under his belt late in the year.

after 17 i percenters, yze deserves a game

You're living in the past buddy.

Yze has been given an opportunity this season and has failed to have a consistent impact hence why he has been playing at Sandy for most of the year.

I think his point is that he deserves every oppurtunity to get a game in the seniors. He has been a great contributor to the club and still continues to work hard at the VFL level. Yze is well aware of his current position at teh club.

Its just very easily forgotton on here, what he has given teh MFC.

My point is Bailey has said you reward players on form. He needs to do what he preaches.

In Yzes 3 games he played, he was in our top 3-4 for the first two IMO If any of our youngsters picked up 25 touches, 3 tackles (2 rewarding in holding the ball and frees for), and 2 goals...we'd be screaming what a star he is.

Yze just gets called selfish. We were down by about 2 goals with a few mins left and he took and shot from about 50 out on the run with no free men available to him. He scored a behind. He was blasted on here and called selfish for that. To me, I saw that as him taking the game on and trying to stand up and lead us over the line. But nope, one sided view of him here.

I'm the first to admit he will not be around next year. But we should also reward form like the coach has stated. Davey has come straight in after a mediocre VFL match with 14 touches and a few tackles. Yze picked up 21 touches and 12 tackles and was our best yet again. See what I'm getting at here? While we play the youngsters to move forward, it seems unfair to not reward the player who's working harder and performing better just because he is old. Players deserve some faith from their club for their loyalty and effort. I seem to remember Yze turning down bigger $$ offers from a few clubs back around 02-03 when he was AA and still a star of the competition. Shouldnt we be rewarding that sort of stuff to show the youngsters if they work hard and are loyal, we will play them until the end and thank them for their service?

I happen to know for a fact, being a friend of a promising young Melbourne players (stalk my facebook if you're that smart), that they do not like the environment at the club and have asked to be traded at years end if possible.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
