Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Out. J Smith

In. Vince

Would love to drop Lewis and ANB but don’t see an obvious replacement.

I see this as the logical change for next week.  Smith just seems off the pace and Bernie can play for us all over the ground.  Hard to make too many changes outside of that.  Reckon ANB survives for another week.

The balance was much better, but not all the cogs are contributing.

I agree. But not all cogs will always fully contribute at once. The improved balance allows our important ones to though.

I'm a Nibbler fan, but he has to go for mine.  In Bernie.

A fan, interesting. 2 misses from 15 out directly in front, missed marks, missed handballs, missed tackles, misdirected kicks, knocked off the ball several times, lacking in pace and this wasn't his worst game and you are a fan, that's nice.

I definitely agree with this. But there are a few in extended runs of very average form and at least two youngsters who look too raw right now. Even incremental upgrades can improve the dynamics of the team.

I thought  Smith was playing well until plonked in the forward line. I don't think you can expect him to nail his first game in the forward line with sweet fa preparation.

And Hogan kept getting in his way.

And I agree with this. But lets make our incremental upgrades incrementally.

Honestly don’t know what’s going on with ANB, he’s been average or below for most of the year but he’s played every game, don’t think he’s missed a game since Goodwin became coach

His body language is someone who knows he's under pressure, i know he's injured atm but i would take Jayden Hunt in a heart beat everyday of the week over ANB.

Bugg...no votes it seems

JKH: Has failed every time at AFL level

Balic: I think not

Kent; Too early

IMO ANB stays

For me if he wasnt Injured Jayden.

In: JKH

Out: Smith

Need run on the 'G, especially with heavy legs after Darwin. Pedersen, Tim Smith and Tyson are not the answer.

I like that but we also need fresh legs: In- JKH,Vince   Out: Smith, Spargo

Joel Smith - thought he was ok down back but looked to be hobbling and was sent forward, where he did some good and some bad (getting in the way, what's new). Can't carry injured guys coming back from Darwin
Lewis - Same old, same older
ANB - needs a run in the 2's for his own sake, just no confidence right now
Melksham - another game without a tackle, just drifting around, needs a rocket put up him to get back to the form he was in a month ago

In:
Vince - in Lewis' role
Hannan - in for Melksham, playing up the ground using his run, his intensity at Casey today was excellent, a cut above with speed
JKH - in for ANB, couldn't be any worse
Baker - in playing wing/forward, move Harmes to half back as they did tonight

Not sure how may of the 4 should happen, and the safe option is probably just Vince for Smith, but there were 4 guys tonight and really for 3 of them over the last month who haven't been up to it.

We'll need to bring in 3 to 4 with fresh legs, and stamina.

Gosh, you blokes are being a bit harsh on J. Smith.

Sent forward where he hasn't played before and competed. Sure he didn't completely gel.

'The ball was like a bar of soap tonight' - Max Gawn.

The reason he was sent forward was that in the slippery conditions we needed extra focus on the deck.

Hogan and Tmac don't have the burst or agility to trap it in.

Smith's second efforts were notable. Seven tackles.

Tackles inside-50 aren't just an individual thing. Pressure leads pressure and everyone has to work together at once.

We doubled our inside-50 tackle count from last week.

Lewis won't get dropped. Nor should he be.

Don't think there'll be many changes, apart from Tyson (big game today it seems) I'm not even sure who there is at Casey who's pushing for inclusion the way the likes of Stretch were. Perhaps Vince, but then for the whole season, people had been calling for Vince to be dropped so ...

I didn't see all of the game but even if ANB was bad I'd be surprised if he got dropped. His strengths are the teams' weaknesses.

He is one of the hardest two way runners, regularly is in the top 5 on the ground for stats like distance covered, average speed in defence, total time at high speed, average speed in defence, etc. He was in those groups today too. He also led the team for pressure acts.

All this despite having the least time on ground of any demon.

Given we generally suck at running hard after our opponents, he is invaluable.  And if he kicked 3.0 instead of 1.2 tonight we'd all be singing his praises.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
