We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Did anyone else notice toward the end of the game big Maxy was unable to compete in a ruck contest? Looked to be having some kind of back pain I thought???? No idea though as he was ready to go for the next ruck dual. I thought it was odd but no mention of it from commentators or anyone since.

I noticed him hunching over prior to the contest you speak of. After the ball was cleared he went straight for a Saints player. Someone next to us stated the Saints player gave Maxy a cheap shot in the back/buttock area on the way to the stoppage.

Ah ok, thanks. That explains the Jack Steele $2000 fine I guess. He perhaps should've punched Maxy in the face, apparently there's no charge for something like that....

This might end up being it, chook.  Viney coming in is 50/50 for me as they may make him wait another week to be sure.

I was thinking about a comment re: Adelaide seemingly being a big match for the club. I'd imagine if the FD wants Viney 'right' from a fitness perspective - one game in to get the feel, the 2nd game has an 'anecdotal' drop off in sustainable effort, and then good to go v Adelaide.

Unlike last year, I doubt very much they would risk Viney for himself and the team, this time around.

I don't know, is it?

As far as I know, is why I would prefer him to play 3/4at Casey, as if he feels at all wrong there, he can pull himself out of the game straight away - he won’t do this against the Suns. He is too important to take any risks with and while I know they are professionals, I have seen us make too many mistakes to want to see Jack rushed straight back into the team considering the recent history

Like Tom Mac. If JV is fit you play him. Someone like him do not need a game at Casey. He is our Co Captain and comes straight in. Like wise with Salem. If fit they both play for definatley ANB  and some one else that maybe a bit stiff to lose their spot. Take a pick out of Hunt or Harmes I would suggest

Early forecast is 22 and sunny, no reason not to run with the tall forward line again and see if we can't stretch the suns defence, in particular if May doesn't get up

Live up here in Brissie and forecast is 22 down to 9 overnight so I would think 1st half nice, dry deck but dew will set in for 2nd half.

Tmac came off a better fitness base and less time hampered by injury, play it safe, JV too important to risk IMO

ANB led our pressure acts yesterday for what it’s worth.

His effort and endeavour is beyond question, he has the ability to be a good player, but his execution is lacking severely ATM and his confidence is shot, needs to go to Casey, recover these then back into the seniors

It's not worth anything, the experts have spoken, will all depend on what roles need to be filled, Brayshaw finding midfield form adds another level to the selection 'quandary'

Good call. Bernie was running up and down and couldn't jump in the last. He's 32. Mad not to rest , and save the trip to Brisbane which is a bit of a hike as well.

You see them more than most, do you think ANB looks confident and composed ATM?

I think he is better than what he is producing and needs to get that confidence back.

Weideman is in the unique position whereby his influence on games individually won’t be judged as harshly due to the structural flexibility we’re afforded when he plays.

At the moment it’s working a treat.

Weed provides Gawn the rest he needs which is unbelievably important. Gawn becomes a super threat up forward also when Hoges is roaming up the field and T-Mac Is playing forward.

Weed playing forward also gives us the licence to play Tom Mac in a number of positions. He becomes the ultimate swingman which is a massive headache for the oppo.

I think it changes our look completely and is suited to the way we play. We’re not blessed with super skilled players and we struggle to hit targets going forward. So having a taller forward line is much more conducive to that style of play.

3 talls doesn't usually work and can leave sides top heavy, but in Tmac and Hoges we have 2 very mobile and multi dimensional forwards who are a fair headache for oppositions to  match up on

Can we fit all of Garlett, spargo, fritsch and hannan in same team w full bench? Would love them on field as a mossie fleet eventually anyway. Tmac, tracc or Hogan pushing up & back, fritsch too up but floating back to mark with weed and others to crumb. Anb omitted for garlett, salem in for bernie, swapping around with Jones in mid\hb? Viney in for harmes? If avail. Not like for like, but brayshaw takes harmes spot and alternates in mid with viney? getting best 22 on park a priority in building synergy and adapting to diff players strengths.

There are probably occasions when we can utilise a “mossie fleet” utilising our interchanges and bring back Salem and Viney, however the inevitable will mean that our ‘best 22’ (out of 44] will never be available as our ‘injury list’ swells/retracts. Nice thought though! ? Goodwin and the FD will just have pick the best players who are match-fit on the day!

What is he producing?, the tv and supporters only look for goals and goal assists, he has obviously performed his role to the standard and above that Goodwin required, his pressure acts are always high, so that must be a tick

Also we have supporters who only watch for the negatives and they need a player or two to berate, ANB and Harmes seem to be two at the moment, if Goodwin continues to pick them, they must be playing their role

I have given up trying to predict the changes if any

ANB hasn't been rotating through the midfield last couple of games so Harmes who has would be the out for Viney, although he can play fwd, mid and back so the versatility may keep him in the side

Right now he seems to be second guessing himself when he has the ball, he has been slow making decisions and he hasn’t used the ball to the quality that we know he can. He has a lot of ability, Goodwin knows this and has backed him IMO, but I suspect his had enough chances and will be at Casey next week. At his best, Nibbler is best 22, but right now he needs to find his form and confidence as he is not in the team just to apply pressure.

I think the thumb will need more time to heal than just a week off (think about when you tackle, you may grab with four fingers, but only have the thumb to oppose those & grab the player/arm/jumper... hence i think you don't want to be tackling someone with a broken thumb as 2 weeks off isn't enough time for it to heal). Sure he could just not tackle or handball on that hand, but i think that with a competitive team that's also not an option. Plus Lewis had a small break in a finger, not his thumb, hence quicker turn-around.

Lastly, are we actually missing Salem (http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-01/thumbs-down-as-bad-break-sidelines-demon#/)? Kicking efficiency below average (I think hes more effective as a half back than a mid so far this year. I felt his best match was (where he broke his thumb) back as a half back - i think from recollection.

as a result, I'd leave Salem out another week or two = no changes or Viney in due to coaches desire to have him in (and praying hes ready).

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
