  4. It’s been something never disclosed in the W comp, which is a mistake imho when at the same time it has always been disclosed in the Men’s. What sort of message is that sending to females?… it’s ok to reveal the male players’ weight but not the women’s. Why? Is it because girls should hide the fact and boys don’t need to? This only perpetuates the problem many young girls have with the pressure to not be ‘fat.’ For mine, that’s the point… consistency. FWIW, I believe height and weight should be revealed for reasons already mentioned in this thread.

  6. It's a lot to ask Disco to compete with Casboult he is giving up x kgs. Gee Jefferson looks bigger this offseason I wonder how many kilos he has added? It certainly at times adds to my observations and considerations of the game. I think its a step too far I understand why this does not matter in general society but they are professional athletes and some things just need to be accepted.

  9. LOL… someone needs to tell our coaches and trainers about this. At our Club, if you fail the skin-fold test you get put into the “fat club.” True story. The players call the skin-fold test the “fat pinch.”

  11. Bump. Remember when we should trade Petty immediately as he’d already peaked and was close to needing his leg amputated? I generally stay quiet and just read this forum as I very rarely have information or am able to attend training (thanks to all training reporters and six6six for his excellent photos they are a lifesaver at this time of year!) .But I now understand why those who do have good information often leave and no longer post here. My statement on Petty was accurate and the info came from a good source but because it ran contra to the AFL media narrative and because people were upset at the time I was jumped on. Until the culture on here changes and people can share info that runs contrary to what is out in the public without being jumped on this wonderful forum won’t be able to live to its full potential as many will stay silent when they could share. Petty is actually ahead of the time frame I provided, but he’s a long way from not playing this season. Obviously there’s a long way to go and chance will play a part but so far, so good.

  14. Either way the trek from Wudinna to Adelaide is a challenge in itself. But I would have thought that's still a lot easier then having to jump on a plane again just to watch a home game. To be honest I have no idea how the club will map all this out for Petty in his family. Seems a challenge regardless what they do.

  18. So, how much would it cost to arrange a return charter flight in a light aircraft every second week during the season and a few extras during pre-season? Call it 20 return flights a year, at $10k per round trip. Probably get a discount for regular business. Bonus points we can collect the Tholstrups first and refuel at Wudinna on the way. Actually, it would probably work out cheaper for the club to just fork out $2m and buy ourselves a Cessna Grand Caravan and have a contracted pilot. Throw in a bit of fun with taking people on tours for the NT games, and we can even offer pilot's licence courses as a bonus for players and staff, we're golden. Would we be able to recoup the half million a year financing and operating costs? Um... maybe? I suggest we should name it the Petty Wagon.

  20. I would say the likelihood of a boutique 25K stadium at Gosch's Paddock is low. Who will fund this? There would be plenty of local community opposition I would think, perhaps not as heated as at Yarra Park but still substantial. Also the footptint of this stadium may erode into the training fields for the two professional rugby code clubs who train at AAMI/Gosch's Paddock - Melbourne Storm in Rugby League and Melbourne Rebels in Rugby Union (Carn the Rebs!). I would have thought the bang for buck would be much better investing in Princes Park as a home for AFLW. A new 25K stadium at Gosch's would not come cheap whilst Princes Park wouldn't require much investment to turn it into a quality 25K stadium without any local planning headaches.

  25. To me it's often about the money when a player wants to go. Not always but when we hear about the size of a contract on offer, you can't help but think it is about the money And it's not just about the overall contract, the big enticer is the first year amount on those sorts of deals. A signing on bonus per se Life changing amounts of money and we shouldn't be thinking that Adelaide haven't offered Harrison a big amount in his first year. Let's face it, if you want to secure a player that you believe is a game-changing player, it's what you would do (big, upfront $$$'s) So there are a stack of players who we know left for the big bucks (Judd, Buddy, Ablett, Scully the list goes on) With standout players, the go-home factor is used as bait but it's not the big bait. The money is

  26. What's stopping us from offering more money? CBA is about to go up, Brown, McDonald, Melksham, Tonlinson will all either be retired or delisted which will free up some huge salary cap belief. Think you're underestimating our ability to manoeuvre around our cap space which we've shown to do extremely well over thr past few years.

  27. Considering this is a direct quote from Tim Lamb then there is no doubt there there is a huge go home factor first and foremost before money. "We had conversations with Harrison where he spoke about the lure of home and some of the issues around that, with his family and their ability to get over here and watch him play and be involved a bit more. "We'll work with him to make sure that there is a better situation for him. The biggest challenge for the Petty family is that from Wudinna alone it's a 6 hour and 5 minute drive. That's just to get to the airport to then jump on a plane and having to do more travel just to watch their son play on a Saturday or Sunday. Probably even harder when we've played a lot of Thursday night or Friday games because it not as simple as jumping into a car after work and drive down the Hume Highway like the Spargo's or Oliver's can. Money isn't the issue for Petty at all because he knows regardless he'll get paid well enough. He's barely had family being able to come down and watch him live purely from a logistical challenge. Whatever Tim Lamb has in mind in being able to "better manage" this situation, I hope it works out well for Harrison because he's vital to us. The go home factor is absolutely real with this one.

  28. He’s contracted for 2024/25, why wouldn’t we be able to offer him a new contract effectively upping his current salary for next season in the process considering our position. What were we paying Grundy? Plus surely Brown and TMac retire at the end of the season.

  36. He’s a gun defender and I think it was you (apologies if not) that said he’s a ready made replacement for May (and I agree) and if he has an extended run up fwd and continues his form from late last season we as a club would be with in our rights to offer him around the 7-8 hundred thousand mark. Not sure he’s at the million per season mark yet, he’d have to kick 60 this upcoming season for mine.

  37. If Petty was playing for the Crows how many games would his parents / family travel to Adelaide for to watch him play. Considering 6 hours each way plus breaks essentially makes it a days travel each way. Would they make the trip for every home game plus finals or just the big games plus finals. All speculative I know. Surely the club can be proactive in communicating with his family and arrange for them to make the trip for Gather Rd as well as blockbuster matches such as Anzac Eve, Kings Birthday and when we play the Lions. I’m not sure how much the club can do in terms of flights / motels for family’s before it’s looked at by the AFL. Family may be put fwd as motivation, but it’s also a great leverage tool. Money talks, hopefully he stays.

  38. The penny dropped for me this morning... Today's Age has an in depth article today on the battle for control of the Melbourne Park precinct. Well worth a read but it mentions Gosch's Paddock as a possible site for a 25k AFL stadium. Makes sense as the future home of Women's football and if the cost of roofing is not prohibitive a summer music venue for use when Rod Laver etc are tied up by the tennis. If the powers that be wanted this to happen the quid pro quo for us is funding of a replacement training facility at a venue such as Caulfield. https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/the-speech-that-sparked-a-bitter-feud-over-the-future-of-melbourne-park-20240110-p5ew9q.html Live Nation isn’t the only organisation with ideas for new venues. Collingwood boss Craig Kelly floated plans for a new AFL stadium on a part of Gosch’s Paddock, which is currently the training ground of the Melbourne Demons. “I know Richmond [Football Club] and ourselves have both said that if there was an opportunity as a code with the AFL … we’d be more than happy to explore how do we have another facility there that can be utilised for that sort of 25,000 seat [stadium].” The AFL, Melbourne Football Club and Richmond Football Club declined to comment. As an aside here's another on the Collingwood wish list: In the push-and-pull fight for land, the powerful Magpies often come out on top. They expanded their empire in 2007 by secretly lobbying to push out the Victorian Institute of Sport and Athletics Victoria from what is now known as the Glasshouse. Kelly wants to secure tenancy for another 50 years and told The Age about Collingwood’s vision to expand further, adding a grandstand and permanent cafe so the facilities could be used as an AFLW venue.

  39. to save derailing the "training' thread any more ....I shall revert to discussion here @dpositive just by way of interest have you been to Caulfield and visited within...i.e the "commons' area ? It's vast....fn huge really ..you could lose two ovals there.. My own thoughts are this will and possibly should only be viewed as a training facility and not a playing location..as such. But.... Cursory investigation shows that the water table there is around at LEAST 50-60 M. So ?? You could feasibly DROP the playing surface of at least one oval and construct viewing stands which would not impose upose the surrounding areas. Capacity would not need to be huge. Much is made by yourself and others about Greenfield locales.. I stuggle to see much being accomodated at FB/PM... Instigating facilites at Caulfield would not mean upending anyone and 'turfing' them out ( couldnt help myself there..lol ). I can't see how that is accomplished at PM...Someone would be miffed surely... There just ISNT the availability of acreage to develop currently.. At Fishermans ....Real Estate will be at a premium.. Again...To obtain TWO ovals that you if not quite use exclusively can 'hog' and limit attendances etc... just can't see it. Going to FB/PM is akin to driving down a congested court... it's a pain in the proverbial getting there. It may look central on a map...but access wise....it's the pits... But it will be fine for LOCALS... and good luck to them if thats their choice of residence...they won't be travelling to use facilites.

  40. This is actually factual incorrect. I've had the pleasure of meeting Ollie Wines sister in Maddie about a year or so after he was drafted and she started out as a local journo around the region. We crossed paths at a regional awards function one night and i actually asked this question to her. Melbourne had certainly had Wines in their sights and this was purely because Todd thought GWS were going to pick Toumpas with their early picks. Our recruiting staff thought he was a top 2 genuine talent based off his senior SANFL experience as well as winning a flag at such a young age. They were mostly set on Wines until it was made known fairly soon that GWS were then going to pass Toumpas. Maddie confirmed it was actually Todd Viney who made the decision even though Neeld preferred Wines, but Neeld had enough faith in Viney and the rest of the recruitment. Viney informally Wines family and whilst they were fairly disappointed in the decision they certainly didn't hold it against Todd as they knew it was a professional decision. So yes, unfortunately it was Todd who made the blunder.

Controllers use pawns? Yeah right but Oliver is the King! He also has not made it that way, and unless you know for a fact what issues he is dealing with, your comments are conjecture! Yeah I get the fact he wont play for a while BUT HE AINT IRRELEVANT....NEVER!

  42. dp while i admire your enthusiasm, do you really know what's required to mount an alternative option to the Club? Do you know what physical facilities are actually required by the Club? Do you know how much physical space would be required to house these facilities? These are the very first steps before you can look at any possible alternative site. I'm guessing you don't really have these basic ingredients yet. Only then can you go out looking for suitable public land. I say public because any privately owned land would have a price tag that we could never afford. Then the hard part begins. Looking for public land that does not have heritage issues (ie the MCG Precinct); does not cause a loss of public visual amenity (ie the Yarra Park proposal); does not make homeless other sporting or recreation bodies, does not take away much required public open space; a site that can provide public benefit from some of the proposed works; a site that is easily accessible etc etc etc. Then when you think you have all that nailed down, you have to find the financial backing for that site. Therefore, it ain't as easy as seeing a vacant block of land and declaring that would make a good site! I'm afraid dp, that without having these basic initial criteria in hand, the Club - while they might appreciate your effort - will not take you seriously. That is most likely why you have not had a number of your questions answered. But on a more positive note, the Caulfield site really excites me as a proposal - much, much more than anything we had previously proposed in the MCG precinct. (I've been in the Master Planning game for a long time, so i do have some knowledge of these processes). I think we will all be extremely happy if we pull this proposal off. It's almost like we have waited 20 years for Caulfield to come along.

  43. I don't buy into the go home factor, I believe in the money But I'm with you, if he becomes a game-changer on a regular basis, pay him the big bucks* and match the Crows offer (unless that offer is astronomical and it becomes a murky situation) Ultimately, I see him as a replacement for May at full back as Petty is only 24 and has another 9-10 years of footy ahead *That could happen as early as half way through 2024 if he fully recovers from his injury and starts firing again
