  1. He’s a category B rookie Dazzle. Someone who goes through the system cant be a category B so he’s not taking anyones spot. So your concerns are pretty baseless I reckon.

  3. You're too kind Doc! At great risk of dying of boredom, I did just that. But first, some amusing observation/asides: 1) At Collingwood you can still serve as a director after having served a prison sentence (must have run out of law abiding options) 2) St Kilda either doesn't have a constitution or didn't provide it. 3) Bulldogs refer to clauses in the constitution that aren't there - lol 4) Not sure how Jeff Kennet is still President under their constitution For some info relevant to the MFC, I scanned the constitutions of Victorian clubs only - it's just too dull to go through the rest. I can offer the following observations, which must be qualified by the fact that I just scanned the dreary documents, so may have missed stuff: 1) Vic clubs require nomination of candidates by 2 or 3 members 2) 2 (North and Geelong) of the Vic clubs require candidates to supply a profile with a word limit for their election campaign. For others, there is no reference. 3) Collingwood is the only other club yet to make provision for electronic media. Their constitution is the next oldest to ours. 4) Some clubs expressly forbid direct marketing by candidates, most don't mention it. 5) The presidential term varies widely amongst clubs so I haven't detailed it. If one day, I'm forced to choose between re-watching the Dees lose a game by 100 points or comparing presidential terms between clubs, i might just look into it more closely, but again, it's that dull. Having now looked at them all, my opinion (only) is they need to ditch the increase in the number of members needed for nomination and need to fairly disseminate information/profiles of ALL election candidates to members. This should be reasonably cost effective with electronic media. One club (can't remember which) has provision for members to request ballots and voter information by mail if they don't have internet. I haven't gone into all the proposed changes but to me, there's an element of self preservation over procedural fairness in some of them. For the record, I don't know any of the current board members or Peter Lawrence. Please excuse me while I regain my sanity.

  4. Knight mare is way off the pace and think he may have been found out No way Hawks are taking McKenzie before Jhye Clark if they are taking a midfielder, yes Knightmare May have got wrapped up in the Falcons kid staying down there but the Hawks aren’t letting that happen Eagles aren’t taking Kaleb Smith at 28 if Ed Allan is available. Smith is another Wesley boy, has really good pace, maybe 6ft just, so not key position, foot skills are not great and there’s penetrating kicks which go long and deep without direction and there’s penetrating kicks like Daniel Rich which come off the boot sweetly which stay low, move quickly through the air, go where they’re intended and can’t generally be intercepted. Smith is in the former. He’s a great kid, talented cricketer who could go far in the white ball game but I’m not sure he’s getting drafted and not sure how his name comes up. Two best players in the Wesley side are Ginbey and O’Driscoll(23 draft), most likely to be talked about for next years draft from Wesley outside of O’Driscoll is Austin Chapman who is an endurance machine and big time accumulator in the Lachie Neale mould, but he’s coming off an ACL and lacks size. Eagles I think at 28 take best available and if Allen is gone and they are staying local Baxter Phillip, Conor McDonald, Sam Gilbey, Darcy Jones all come into consideration before Smithy Back on topic though with Knightmare and IMO he’s often off the mark uses buzz drafting words when talking about players but IAH really just changes up the Phantom drafts and player watch done up by Cal Twomey. And I’m not sure we’ll take Jefferson, think they see our forward line struggles and lazy option is to say we need a forward, without assessing poor delivery, Brown being forced to play a role which doesn’t suit him, Turner coming in or Tomo (2nd year off a knee and back early 21 form - yes Deelanders he was reliable and important then) coming back in and Petty moving forward, JVR all into calculations along with 2 1st Rounders next year. I think we take best available to fill roles of elite kick, mid who can impact the scoreboard, rebounding half back or line breaking runner with good foot skills

  5. As a member of the club I have concerns that off the back of our recent premiership that the current board seem to want to consolidate/entrench the status quo of the board composition. I understand that disunity and fractured boards can be inhibitors to success, but I also think that subservience and groupthink can lead to a lack of accountability and complacency that results in worse outcomes. The President of the club isn't a dictatorship and nor should they automatically get the board that they want - it's supposed to be a democratic election and the board should represent the diversity of views of the members. It's communist democracy if there are only the same number of candidates as there are vacancies on the board. I think that some of the proposed changes are unnecessary (see above) and I also think that the club has missed opportunities to really reform the constitution.

  6. There is history behind this. Lawrence nominated last year and the club refused his request to put his case to members. The club actually behaved very poorly and is looking to stymie and genuine nominations other than the ones they want. Not sure they are as inclusive as they make themselves out to be

  7. I'm sorry if this has already been raised but I'd like to make a couple of points. The first is the only thing that has been released as a result of yesterday's court decision is email addresses. There is no personal information along with the addresses, no DOB and no credit card information. It seems to me that this is just the same as a residential address, in fact I'd rather a person only get my email address rather than my personal address. And if you don't want emails either block them or delete them. Secondly this could all have been avoided by the club just sending out the emails on Deemocracy's behalf. No court case, no privacy issues, no angst and they would have acted responsibly and in the best interest of members. Instead, they've cost us tens of thousands of dollars because they didn't want a member telling other members what an alternate constitution would look like. Wow, all this over a constitution. The core changes that Deemocracy wants seem sensible to me. Why the Club refused to consult with Deemocracy and discuss this in a sensible way seems very odd to me. Personally I don't give a damn about the constitution, I just want to win footy games, but the Board just seem to be acting as a select group of entitled elites who merely say "my way of the highway". I've no confidence in them.

  8. I just received an email from Deemocracy. Read it, deleted it, entirely painless exercise that the club could have facilitated weeks ago, and managed around the circus it has become, unnecessary I agree It's great you feel better blaming one individual, and I feel your conclusions are somewhat valid - but it's concerning to me our Board couldn't manage a smoother outcome, if they think they have such a good solution for updating the Constitution then why not back themselves, back their consultation process, and allow members to hear the contrary view weeks ago?

  9. I voted in favour of the changes proposed by the board. Electronic voting is a no brainer, receiving 20 nominations from fellow members should be an easy hurdle for serious candidates and I'm in favour of the term limits proposed. The board needs to be refreshed and renewed. After 6 six years (3x3) you've contributed whatever ideas, you have so time to step aside and bring in a new face. Kate Roffey is doing a good job in my opinion and the board generally. Leave them at it for now. The lack of progress on the home is the big disappointment for me. The board can't dodge accountability on that front for much longer

  10. The board haven't obtained data through appropriate means and they aren't the club. Their job is to oversee the club. I would think it appropriate that they allow the club to facilitate a flow of information to members when important issues come to a vote. That would seem good governance. What do they have to hide? Wouldn't it be better if the arguments of the different cases were fairly put before us members so as we can make an informed decision?

  12. He's already 206cm, so there's wont be much learning at the feet. Learning from Gawn's eyebrows and Grundy's man-bun? Also, that means we now have FIVE 200cm+ players on our list, so we can finally hold an EntMoot.

  15. and not the board... About time you've finally awoken from your slumber old son. I can't see why on such an important issue we are not given a range of views. Why do we get spoon fed what the board want us to vote for. Do they think their case is not strong enough to mount a solid argument? Or do they think we are too stupid to make the right call?

  16. It's pretty obvious you have an agenda here 'Lord' If the board were open and transparent to start with this whole thing never would have gone to court. They haven't been and that's a cause for concern.

  18. Inclusive means you're open to different races, genders, sexualities and on and on... It doesn't mean you accept any random unqualified supporter as a member of the board.

  20. Makes total sense to me. I could get 2 family members to nominate me. I could get someone to write up a beautiful blurb about me as a board candidate. (All BS by the way.) Fact is I have nothing to offer as a board member. I don't want it to be easy process. This is a football club board. It needs a range of experience, abilities and contacts. I think the board should be able to vet candidates based on the needs of the organisation rather than the ego driven desires of obvious disrupters who offer nothing apart from long time membership.

  21. I hear the rolling of a drum, a *boom* swiftly followed by a *tish*. Time for the reveal! What the players in this team have in common is that they are all immediately recognisable by their first names only. You could post the team just using first names and know who all the players are. If I said my favourite former Demons were Byron, Earl, Stan, Carl and Majak, you'd know who I was talking about. This teaser was a little off-piste (snow joke) which may have left some of you piste-off. However, in soccer terms I've kept a clean sheet for the first time and I'll keep the prizes for myself. Next brainteaser will be of an easier and more conventional nature, I promise.

  25. Were the shorter terms not put forward by Deemocracy in the first place? The idea that it might take a new board member a few terms to get things running is a pathetic excuse and wouldn't wash in the public or private sector. You keep saying this. It's painfully obvious you have an agenda here though. I don't like that it's gone to court, but what's the solution? From Deemocracy's position, do nothing and waste an opportunity to update the constitution? I couldn't give a stuff about the constitution tbh, although I would like our club to be exploring best practice solutions, which they're clearly not. But I also don't like being told who to vote for in board elections, and this board has done that twice now. It reeks. I want board stability, but I also dread the maintenance of status quo for status quos sake. Stability doesn't necessarily mean keeping the same people on the board. We surely want the best people for the composition of the board. Keeping a closed shop with an unwillingness to let democratic process play out (vis a vis board elections) doesn't sit right with me.

  26. I’ve never voted (or sent a proxy) in any MFC Board election but this whole kerfuffle by the member has backfired and I’ve given the President my proxy.

  27. I don't post often at all, but this warrants a rare post. This whole effort to scupper the vote on the special resolution is absolutely non-sensical. What the opposition fail to properly grasp is that the alternative constitution being put forward by them is not actually an alternative. It isn't part of the vote. All that will be achieved by getting people to vote against the special resolution is that the current, outdated version will be retained. Even the opposition don't like the current constitution, so they are shooting themselves in the foot and throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

  28. We've got to be a good shot at taking out next year's AFL basketball 3x3 comp. J Smith / Petracca / Farris-White seems a pretty handy side.

  29. Perhaps that’s the case Dazzle but it doesn’t cost anyone in the system a spot on a list and offers a chance for clubs to give an opportunity to those outside the system. I don’t see a problem.

  30. Love the lateral thinking by the club. We now have 2 A grade rucks, a soon to be developed ruck in Faris-White and a future father son in Kalani White. We also could pick another in this year's drafts or even next year. very happy with this selection.

  34. Completely agree, we need a quality ball carrier that can hit a kick, kick a goal and a mid size defender who can lock on the small and centre forward types (the Hibbo replacement). I would look to solve longer term key position forward needs next year unless someone we rate super high falls in our lap at 37. Jefferson would need 2-3 preseasons to have any impact with his frame we are in the now and have other needs. The other option is we target a quality key defender with a view to give further flexibility to free Petty.

  38. The most enticing thing about all of this is the fact that with ANB, AMW, this bloke and Finn Emile-Brennan possibly coming in, we are coming close to breaking an old club record of the most players with hyphenated names in its history.

  39. I think some posters here know Peter Lawrence and reckon he’s on the level. I’ll take their word for it. I will say though, everything he has done up to now demonstrates to me that he should not be on the board Not winning support for his nomination from the current board. Shows he doesn’t know how it works Challenging a board that has delivered a premiership. There’s no appetite for change so why push? Taking the club to court and wasting our money. Way to endear yourself to us members He might be well meaning but his judgment and timing are way off I think he’s clueless to be honest

  40. I’m forever bagging the Collingwood cheer squad for… well… everything really. But in particular for waving an American flag. Nek minnit… 😂 😂 😂 There's gonna be not one but two of these at this week’s match for our Irish girls! PS: In case anyone’s wondering, I put the banana there to show the DA OGs the size of the flags.

  42. Just a little vent, hope nobody minds. 🙏 I got to the Reach Foundation building in Collingwood (where we make the banners). Got here early since we’re making this weekend’s banner plus a couple of generics for finals. Turns out Reach double-booked, so for this week a last-minute change to AAMI Park was made. I can’t get there in time so for the first time since joining the DA I won’t be involved. 😭 I was hoping to be the Jimmy of banner making but my run’s been broken. 😭😭 AND tonight the players are gonna be there to help make the banners. 😭😭😭 Anyways I feel so much better now. Thanks all. 🌸 We'll smash Essendon on Sunday and that’ll more than make up for this. ❤️💙 Edit: I was serious about my run. Even the OGs have had at least one week where they couldn’t make it. And my run included a late Thursday night banner build before a 6am flight to Brisbane the next morning in round 23. And so (next Thursday) begins another attempt at the record. 😁
