  4. Wife is a bombers supporter and I went to numerous games with her last season and watched most others when free of Demons. She is livid they did not offer him another year. Works up and back hard and is clean in hands and by foot. At worst good insurance, at best will have a point to prove and offer a potential quality third foil or push the kids to earn their spot.

  7. I’m assuming this selection is based purely on the infamous Sydney round 22 game when we literally ran out of key forwards (apart from Keilty who wasn’t AFL standard) and the list management department were made to look like fools in that game. We can’t have a repeat of this fwd line again: HF - Petracca Melksham ANB F. C Wagner Fritsch Chandler You’ve rightly pointed out his flaws, but for someone that kicked a bag of 4 in a prime time Friday night win this year (and two 3 goal games), I think he’s a pretty good depth pick up.

  8. MELBOURNE Pick 3 Luke Jackson declared to foxfooty.com.au at the draft combine that he wanted to play Round 1. But considering his preferred position (ruck) and the fact a dual All-Australian (Max Gawn) has worked so well as the solo ruckman in recent years, it’s hard to see him getting an opening-round debut against the Eagles. Same goes for Kysaiah Pickett, who has a sensational highlights package but is very raw — and likely to still be very raw by Round 1. But Melbourne’s Round 1 bolter could be its Pick 32 Trent Rivers, whose kicking and decision-making during his draft year was outstanding. The Dees need some class in defence and across the wing — and Rivers has the potential to provide that immediately. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2020-round-1-teams-afl-draft-2019-draftees-most-likely-to-debut-early/news-story/29b72bc2dfd19bd54163f3d5bb9b1018?fbclid=IwAR1waA8996twhiywOYx07zN1zpC1jBojRMaYbPdsQqhmJ76N-bm_kek1Zrk

  9. It's amazing what bugs some people. Take me for example, the way the social media person at the MFC uses the "+" symbol instead of the "&" symbol in every-f-ing-thing makes me wonder if we've had a work experience kid in at the club at some stage, and we haven't been able to get rid of them. Are we red plus blue, or red and blue? FFS. PS. Welcome back Harley.

  10. According to the doubters "Has no skills, too light, too short for a ruckman, can't kick, bad drop! Not great high mark, and has only bullied small opponents throughout the country, oh and has lost an AA Basketball leap in 18 mths. LJ one thing they didn't question was your heart (competitiveness ) which above all the numerous skills you possess (listed above) will take you a long long way in AFL. World is at your feet to conquer! Best of luck young man.l

  13. Some serious morphing going on in the club. Weid has gone full-hulk as noted, but OMac has also baked himself some beefcake. Petracca also clearly living in a gym these days. Viney looks the most lithe I’ve ever seen him though. Less weight on the foot, the thinking there? Preuss is also looking a bit more Matthew McConaughey, a bit less “Bull” from Night Court.

  19. Got there at 9:40 as the boys were finishing their warm ups. Windy, cool but not cold by that time, a bit soft under foot but no rain. Training the Winehouse down Baker just walking. Hannan some light jogging. Petty and Vanders with a mix of solid footy training and some steady running Bradtke and Weid joined in to make 4 for some kicking and marking. Weid later returned to the match sim Not sighted: Spargo, Tomlinson Young talent time LJ 17, KP 24, TR 20 Jackson - reports of his kicking being an issue are greatly exaggerated, has no problem kicking a nicely weighted drop punt. Didn't get too involved in many drills, but at one stage had a nice lead, spilled a mark and then turned and laced a kick. Did a little mock ruck contest with Bradtke and I saw his noted speed to gather the ball after a contest. Pickett - be it via handball or kick he gets the ball where he wants it to go and how he wants it to go, a natural. Makes all the little adjustment steps before marking or disposing with nice balance. He's not tall or bulky but in a bunch of mostly uncontested stuff he looked comfortable. Rivers - bearing in mind I didn't stay to see any endurance running he looks like a very good athlete and another who didn't look out of place at all. Can use it well on both sides, moves well to get the ball in the handball drill. Good first hit out. Missin' Misson injury update Oscar McDonald left the ground in the handball drill, not sure what happened and not obviously carrying anything but didn't look right, maybe copped a knock? Tommy then promptly went down rolling his left ankle trying to change direction. It's nice to know he still has ankles but this one didn't go well for him. Was in obvious discomfort. Then took him off and strapped him and tried a run through which didn't look too bad but sanity eventually prevailed and he walked back to AAMI (I would've used the golf cart for him but whatever) Nath Jones then later walked off looking rather grumpy. Unsure what happened there. Could be as simple as a bit of veteran rest. Comedic break: a dramatic reproduction of Demonland arguing over who we should've drafted with pick 3 Is that Italian Saty pushing to draft the ruckman? Drills Warm up exercises Kick to kick in 4's with pressure coming, using both sides Kick to kick around the ground with a partner Small group craft drills - ground balls, marking, clearances etc Handball in a 60 by 30 rectangle working the ball end to end Kicking in a 60 by 30 rectangle end to end Match Sim The 3 young guys sat out this one, initially watching before doing some standing kick to kick - all 3 rarely missing 15m passes, then a bit ground ball work and handballs Gawn - who was the defender so had the wind blowing it to him over the back took his usual number of strong marks, but Preuss got a couple back later Petracca, Oliver and Viney all had moments of quality and a stack of the ball Dunkley kept finding it out on the wing with varying results. Langdon started slow then got more involved Lockhart was the standout initially with excellent quick penetrating kicks on both sides of the body, turned a couple over later but its not easy with the wind Weideman took one nice grab inside 50, had a good lead and then turn and hit up kick Jordon gets involved, a few messy handballs but a nice smother Melksham busy across half forward. Fritsch the standout forward though. May a nice pack mark. Lever some well timed intercepts - although not playing on anyone Overall it was pretty messy due to the wind I think. Not as clean as last week. But very willing.

  22. Harley does certainly appear to be "giving it his all" in a last ditch bid to save his career. Great to have someone at the club with this mindset, though it could still possibly not amount to anything. Well done, son.

  31. Re game plan, I will be happy if our backline does the following, similar to the Tigers: - back six hold position, so don’t chase opposition or kicks into our forward half of the ground - have a defender who generally covers the goalsquare - don’t all fly for the mark/punch, so we have someone stay down for crumbs - for boundary throw ins have someone goalside ready to stop opposition smalls waltzing through for give me goals Apologies for repeating this type of post, but I’m hoping might see it happen in 2020!!

  34. A few notes tracs quads should be registered as military grade weapons of mass destruction. They’re Tony Martinesque if there’s one thing I’ve never been surer of it’s that weid could parachute into a hot warzone surviving a barrage of anti aircraft munitions land offshore then frogman into shore and take out a platoon of enemy positioned on higher ground thereafter removing his helmet to reveal a perfectly coiffured head of hair. The man should register whatever he uses as military grade head protection Rad photos . Any observers - can you comment on how at home the new draftees looked ?

  38. Found this on bigfooty. Pick 22. West Coast Eagles. Trent Rivers . 188cm 83 kg. Utility. East Fremantle. Get ready folks this kids an ascending player he is rising up draft boards at a rapid rate. Thrilled to get the contested ball beast with this pick. Came into the Championships with a bit of a flurry and I was given the "heads up" that he was rated very highly down at Moss Street. East Fremantle Football Club has been a production line for quality midfielders over the years. Patrick Cripps, Paul Haselby, Ben Cousins, Daniel Kerr, Simon Black to name but a few. So when I was told to "watch out" for him by East Fremantle connections...... it was duly noted. Rivers has shown versatility and been played in a variety of positions and whilst at the Championships he played off a half back flank and through the middle I see him projecting as an AFL midfielder. An old fashioned, footballers footballer, who thrives at the coal face, the kids a hard nut. His solid Championships gained him AA selection and as quite a few draft watchers have already noted, keep an eye on him as he goes back to the WAFL and completes the season. First week back in the Colts after the Championship he hasn't disappointed, this morning , with a 26 disposal game, 5 tackles and 3 goals. If he continues in this form in the Colts, I can see his being given a debut in the Seniors very quickly. Bill Monaghan, the League Coach, has never been shy giving young kids a run at the highest WAFL level and I will be watching for this to happen with Rivers. He may well be playing himself into first round draft calculations. When considering who to select here, I was impressed with just who was still available as : Mead ( who will be Port bound as a F/S pick so I left him ), Trent Bianco one of this cohorts best users of the ball by hand and foot, the AA CHB Fisher McAsey, and Dylan Williams were available and considered. In the end I just couldn't pass on Trent Rivers, a home grown talent, who fills a need for West Coast as quality midfield depth is short at the Club.

  39. Accept your apology, and its cool, i respect your right to disagree, its the beauty of supporting this team, we can have all sorts of different opinions, but ultimately we love our team. I stick by my opinion that i think we didnt perform like a professional team, no where near it and to lose a prelim and then only win 5 games makes me sick, might sound over the top but i found it hard to digest, that is genuine disappointment. Unqualified support is there, it does not and should not stop a paid up member of 20 years being disappointed. If it wasn't unqualified i would not have signed up again. Its all good, what we can agree on is that we want them to bounce back have success. Have a good day Binman, no hard feelings.
