Smith has one year left on his deal. Wants an extra 2 on top. Brisbane looked at him and moved on. We are having a look. Personally I'm not a fan of taking quick blokes after 30.14 points

Pick 3 for pick 6 and a future pick is a horrible trade for us. i would be staggered if we actually made that trade. we have GWS bent over a barrel and desperate for that pick. we simply have to get a ready made best 22 player who can help us next year or take that pick to the draft.12 points

Ha ha ha. Sorry, been out and haven’t been glued to the trade radio like some ? The players were from St. kilda, with Tim Membrey being their main one and Bruce second (once he flagged interest to move). Once Bruce nominated the Bulldogs it made it harder of course, and once King re signed it made it even harder. Some of you may not rate Membrey that high, and may not have been so excited by the prospect of him, but I rate him and would love someone who leads up to the ball and actually kicks straight for goal and has a pretty good record in the past few seasons. Attack me at will if you thought I oversold him as a strong prospect we were after ?11 points

The 'pick points' comparison is ridiculous in any context outside of matching an academy or father-son pick. Suns would accept the actual pick 13 for Martin, not some combination of later picks that 'equals' pick 13.11 points

This was looked at today. We (rightly) baulked at 3 years for a 31 yo. Racehorses who cant win their own footy are a liability when the pace goes.9 points

I'll be livid if it's just a pick swap. 6 & 1st 2020 & a player for me. We are holding a winning hand. No freebies for them. If no deal before 7:30pm then it should be no deal.9 points

I don't understand how the Blues would not accept Martin and pick 15 for pick 9? Especially when you've gone down the route of offering a deal and telling Martin you want him at your club. If I was Jack Martin I would be seriously pi**ed. Say what you want about Mahoney, at least when we chase players we make sure to get the deals done, even if people feel we pay slight overs. I really hope we can use Carlton's ineptitude against them and lure Martin to the Dees.8 points

GWS 1st rounder next year may well be in the late 20s after all the bidding is matched. We should think of the pick number rather than 1st or 2nd round I'd rather 3 for 6 + Caldwell or O'Halloran. If GWS really want 3 and Green they need to give something more than 6 and 2020's pick 25ish7 points

Hoping for pick 6 + a good player before the deadline. Pick swap shouldn't satisfy us IMO.6 points

Pick 3 for 6 + Caldwell or O'Halloran NOT 3 for 6 + 2020 1st rounder GWS want pick 3 and Green with late trash picks, then cough the [censored] up! Otherwise it's Green at 6 only. Play hard Dees.6 points

The Free the Essendon 34 will be loving it https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/oct/16/a-stitch-up-new-twist-in-essendon-supplements-saga-reported Pity the spin will hide the real story: “Thymosin Beta 4 was included on the 2010 prohibited list by Wada .... Thymosin Beta 4 has never been approved for human use. Whether a substance was on Asada’s former Check Your Substances tool has no bearing on its status as a prohibited substance on Wada’s prohibited list. “It is impossible to list every substance that may be used for performance enhancement in such a tool, particularly those not approved for use by humans.”6 points

The Giants deal for next years first rounder is not a great deal for us. it's likely a late first round pick in a heavily compromised draft, it's probably only worth a second rounder. Much better off demanding Finlayson or Caldwell and pick 66 points

Anyone know what his contract demands were with Carlton? Aparently he was very excited about playing with Betts, maybe Lord Nev needs to make a phone call and tell him he can train against the best small defender in the game and hone his craft! ?5 points

I've heard it's a pretty delicate situation so definitely best for him to be closer to home and the support of his family and at the end of the day, footy clubs are run by human beings and sometimes it's worth taking a bit of a hit in a football sense to do the right thing. well done St Kilda for looking after a champion of your club when he needed it desperately.5 points

If we have knocked back that offer from the Giants, then I think that's a sensible move from the club. It's not a great offer really and we have time on our side - we either get a better deal or take two ripping picks to the draft. That's a win/win in my book.5 points

Glad I can keep you interested. I will later tonight, if that’s ok with you guys. Let’s wait and see.5 points

Not a fan of the 3 to 6 plus 2020 first round. GWS will likely finish top 4, so if we assume they finish fourth that would start as pick 15. Then let's assume there are 6 Father son/academy selections beforehand as is expected, that pick the becomes 21 and effectively a 2nd round pick. This is our chance to go hard, one of Caldwell, Hateley or O'Halloran plus pick 6 or get stuffed.5 points

GWS can't give us more latet picks this year because they'll need them all to match the Green bid. It has to be 6 + player which has to happen today or 6 + 2020 1st which could happen any time up until pick 3 is due on draft night.5 points

I also think Josh Mahoney's media performances neatly find the right balance between telling the truth but not necessarily the whole truth. That's important both for members and supporters to know what's going on but also to enable him to keep his powder dry should other opportunities arise.5 points

I'd be extremely happy if we were able to secure Tom Papley, but he's not the Messiah (nor a naughty boy!) and not first round material, as others have already stated.4 points
-
We need a player like Papley but having said that his worth this trade period has been extremely inflated. He's not worth a first round pick.4 points

Nothing wrong with hitting the draft with pick 3 and 8. infact it's a great position. i'm sure GWS understand that and we're silly if we aren't demanding a best 22 player along with pick 6 for pick 3. we need a deal that improves our side for 2020 for this to be worth it.4 points

I reckon GWS will get 26 from North for Bonner and then trade us 6, 26 and 2020 1st for 34 points
-
It's not just 3 spots in the draft for them it's the chance to get 2 top 5 picks. 27 and a GWS future first is probably worth about pick 12. We paid a lot more (given our likely ladder finish) to North for pick 8. 12 and 6 for 3 is about right. 6 and a future first isn't enough, has to be at least another 2nd round pick.4 points

Not sure if this is in regards to my posts, but I can categorically deny that Daniher is the person I was talking about. I do not want Daniher and wouldn’t be excited to have him, unless we knew he was fit and able to play full seasons, and I doubt that at this age.4 points
-
Quite frankly, I’m happy for him to sell it. We simply cannot have another season like this year’s. Despite finishing 17th, we are (ironically) in the premiership window right now, and we have to go for it - full bore. Great move - Josh Mahoney is a gun at trading picks IMO. I love it.4 points

After much education, can say yes we do need a pick but there are ample available at the end of the draft. Unfortunately the way the AFL and the Media report this fact is very confusing. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Thanks to Fire in the Belly , Macca and Nascent4 points

I spent 40 minutes arguing about this with my Essendon mate. He says we don’t want to trade him and we don’t want draft picks. We want who we want and Sydney won’t budge. Sydney are the bad guys. I mean their club is deluded from top to bottom4 points
-
It just makes sense. Reports are that we want Weightman and GWS could argue that we wouldn’t use pick 3 to bid on Green in case we are forced to take him. So they argue that we will accept pick 6 plus something of lowish value to get it done because otherwise it may hurt us. Now we can go to GWS with complete impunity and say “pay up, because we’re definitely bidding for Green and will happily take him unless you give us something seriously valuable in return, or else you’re pick 6 disappears trying to match the bid”. It’s exactly the reason why you can’t look at trades in isolation. North may be getting overs for their trade, but it’s coming from GWS, not us. Mahoney is an excellent trader. Pragmatic and very creative.4 points
