  1. Goody and Plapp talking and waiting in the middle for the players to turn up. A bit windy, otherwise good conditions. Rehab out first, Aaron Nietschke doing a bit of ball work, Tom Sparrow getting time tested, Jeff Garlett running laps, Tim Smith walking laps. The light duties had Max Gawn and Nathan Jones in the rehab for a while, both joining the main squad after warm-ups. Also on light duties was Christian Salem and Michael Hibberd who both stayed in the rehab group, but we're running laps strongly together. Out with the rehab was Jordan Lewis, when the squad came out he joined them. He was thanking everyone and being congratulated. After warm-ups, they were straight into drills; blocking, handballs and hit ups by foot. They had two groups drilling a game of keepings off with handball and tackling. Very slick with good skills on show. The simulations were done with some solid tackling and pressure, they were hard at it. Bayley Fritsch cleaning up James Jordan leaving him with a corked hip. Plenty of spoils, one on one contest, blocking, with forwards switching on the opponent and midfield structuring to create overlap. Jack Viney and Nathan Jones leading by example. Goody was looking for the players to create isolation. After the hard hit out they went into their line groups. Backline had Sam Frost, James Harmes and Charlie Spargo in it. Forwards included Austin Bradke, Billy Stretch and Corey Wagner. Max did minimal ruck work but did some leading in the forward area. Most of the ruck craft drills were done by Braydon Preuss with Clayton Oliver the recipient Jay Kennedy-Harris and Oskar Baker with the mids, as well as Clayton Oliver, Christian Pettraca and Angus Brayshaw who were training well. One of the drills was slotting passes at a target. Training ended with the entire squad goal kicking and then they broke off into small group and individual practice. Last on the track Alex Neal-Bullen and Billy Stretch kicking running goals, Braydon marking and a few taking high marks off the bag (including Clayton Oliver and James Harmes ) Tom Mcdonald out on the field wearing a coaches vest and later walking laps with Steven May. No Petty Harrison, Oscar Mcdonald or Kade Chandler. Also, haven't seen Satyricon for some time. The team was boisterous, supportive and generally up and about.

  2. Speaks Volumes of our 2 Captains. They should just walk now. Nobody took any notice of what Max said at the B&F ”You cannot win the Flag in the off Season, but you can certainly lose it...” Of Course we plummeted

  3. “Players may not have come back with the right attitude and the sense that finals was just going to roll around again." “They’ve been dealt a harsh lesson this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if the attitude was changed coming back to the pre-season.” Lewis questions Demons attitude in year from hell Some truth starting to leak out of the MFC now...

  4. You’re angry at Mahoney over a trade scenario that you made up in your head? That’s fantastic.

  5. His brother took a while before he became a star, 4 years I think. So need to be patient.

  6. Because Langdon was still contracted and said he would honour his contract.

  7. Not sure about that. We had Weideman coming along slowly but well enough to dominate a final last year. Spargo also was dropped/rested at times around playing some very good games last year. This year has been a typical 2nd year blues mess. Oscar played earlier than expected but was mostly protected from doing too much damage and played about as well as his talents have to offer last year. He's played games he shouldn't have this year but that's due to injuries to the team as well as his own lack of fitness. Kaiden Brand for Hawthorn is a similar talent to Oscar and has probably played 100 VFL games and 30 senior games. He's not getting any better either. Petty's been managed pretty well for a young tall. The gave him a game last year, he wasn't up to it, bought him back and he's done well enough at both ends to suggest with the right coaching he could have a career. When you've got 15 injuries you have to throw some guys in and see how they go. It shouldn't really hamper their long term development. Dunkley's had some good moments and some not so good moments. He's playing low minutes on a wing and at half forward and I'm sure the coaches instructions are very simple - run hard, attack the contest, keep it simple with the ball.

  9. There are some crazy posts on this thread. Petracca has had a very good year! I’m not sure how some on here can’t see that

  10. it should absolutely be relevant. they are wearing the jumper and our history is so important. We should be the most hungry club in the AFL, and we are the least. stunning level of sh1tness.

  11. They are probably amped because its only a few days until they can play dress-ups and get smashed. I dont begrudge any of the players a [censored]-up after the season they have had, even though it was a monsterous fail. Party till you puke boys....... but for (insert favorite deity's name) come back to day 1 of pre-season FIT and determined to show last year was the outlier.

  13. Our second pick will be pushed to probably at least pick 22 or 23 because of academy players. That's a fair swap for Langdon

  14. Bloody glad that Beelzebub, SWYL, TGR, PF and the rest of the itchy nut crew are miles away from managing our list or having any say in anything. You blokes need to calm the farm, god I'd hate to be in a tight spot with you next to me. All* decent posters and genuine supporters but this is a journey. Yea if we stuff up next year then you'll be shown to be correct, but a coach doesn't get their team to a PF by fluke, and clubs don't establish sustainability by jerking their knee at the slightest obstacle. Of course Goody gets a mulligan season. Until next year we won't know. So just chill. Edit: *mostly decent posters

  16. SWYL don't get me wrong I think the players let themselves, the team and supporters down badly. The different opinion I have is that making the prelim last year should have provided the motivation to do everything to win prelim and GF this year. I don't see 55 years without a flag as motivation, at all, for the playing group. Footy players have short careers that can be glorious (Jordon Lewis) or forgettable and they need to approach all aspects of the game with this mindset.

  17. For [censored] sake - I don't get how supporters expect players to train or play harder because we haven't been successful for 55 years. Players want to play well, be part of a successful team and earn accolades. What happened before they were born might mean something to supporters but is not relevent nor should it be to the players.

  18. He took 10 uncontested marks against Collingwood. That suggests a willingness to work hard and run to space. On its own that wouldn't be enough but it's certainly a good start.

  19. You deserve a medal for producing such a comprehensive training report ahead one of the biggest dead rubber of a games in memory.

  20. It's very rare, if ever, a club will actually every come out and in plain English tell you the reality of anything. It amuses me anyone actually waits for them to do so. There's "footy speak" for a reason. Politicians and Football Clubs seem to have the same elocution.

  21. I thought following the Essendon and Hird experience everyone these days agreed that a senior coach should have some form of coaching experience. In my view, the best person to right the wrongs of 2019 is Simon Goodwin. He knows more about the playing list, the gameplan and the capabilities of the whole football department than anyone else. If he can't do it, then I'd turn to someone else. But he should have first crack. If we subsequently decide that someone else should take over, that person should have coaching experience (not neceesarily as the senior coach) as well as formal accredited coaching training. I would be happy to have Jordon Lewis as an assistant coach if he's prepared to do the formal training and if our football department is happy with his communication skills with respect to dealing with players.

  22. Goodwin might not be our coach in 2021 but he absolutely should be for the start of 2020. People like beelzebub and stranga want to pull triggers left right and centre. That’s not smart business or football, even if the temptation is strong. There always has to be a degree of reflection. We’re not 12 months removed from a PF. We need the context of the 19/20 pre-season and the 2020 season (at least the first third of it) to truly know where Goodwin stands.

  25. Whilst I have been quick to bag the club this week, points to them for including Clarko in the presser and to him for joining in. I am sure it would have been appreciated by Jordy . I see he asked for job offers can the club take note.

  26. No surprise given Roughy and Buddy and co were at the MCG on Friday night. I suspect even if we offered an extension he has had enough of the MFC clusterfluck he has witnessed this year. I would love to hear his real thoughts on how we have ended up where we are.

  27. What possible right do you, or any of the other 'livid' people on this thread, have to dictate to players about their holidays? For god's sake, they chase around a piece of leather for your entertainment. You don't own them. Their holidays, and what they do on them, are none of your bloody business.

  34. You are way off the mark with Petracca 'Bombay'... He has ben good in an otherwise lacklustre forward half. If we need him to be a superstar you are probably right but if we need a good player then he is it. Rather than superstar I expect him to step up to A grade for his position. He's the least of our problems.

  36. Has been an excellent deal for the club. Many have criticised him at times but the real criticism rests in the fact that in years 2 and 3 no player pushed him out of the side. Thanks Jordan
