  1. We’ve just had a Banking Royal Commission. If you read the report that resulted from it, you would discover that there’s no bank in this country to which you can take this proposition.

  2. Rubbish. He knows his limitations and works beautifully within them. For someone of his age he uses the ball exceptionally well. Besides, he did roost a couple of big goals last year.

  7. This Pruess fella must play for another team. You wouldnt think fans from the team he plays for would be bagging him on a public forum. That would be a bit, umm, low wouldn’t it? But not us Melbourne supporters. We’re better than that!

  10. Interesting day. I'm playing flemington for somewhere between a leaders bunn and suit on pace and made my selections accordingly. If I get that right I'm confident of a big day. My best is she's so high. Race 3 no 7 flemington. Will be too good for a small field and good value at 2.25 fixed atm

  11. His readily laughing at himself may indicate less ego hangups. He also seems to be enjoying this opportunity and really into it working hard to do his best. Great combination.

  13. Looks a no-brainer Wadda, doesn't it ? Saturday overnight I've been having a couple of multi's based on the English Championship, League 1 & League 2 ... just 3picks but there is some very good value to be had in those leagues. Anywhere from 15-1 up to 50-1 based on the Win/+2.5 match goals rule-of-thumb. Spurs/Gunners tonight (11pm on SBS) could provide a few goals as well although either team can win.

  14. Yep Nailed it. I dont think it detracts from Winx...they are deliberately avoiding her as Waller said post race presser Their loss The Autumn Sun is running in the Randwick Guineas next week $1.50

  15. You could look at from the connections of Happy Clapper's point of view ... they have given up the chance to win other races with bigger prizemoney along with black-type recognition. That they happened to gain a wild-card was testimony to the horses ability but it's still a bit of a risk running against Winx ... and the fact is that any number of the connections of the good middle distance horses have deliberately avoided Winx - Apollo Stakes (1400m) Chipping Norton (1600m) Ryder Stakes (1500m) Ironically, the All Star Mile doesn't include the best Miler in Australia - Winx. My query is why isn't 'The Autumn Sun' running in the All Star Mile or running against Winx? For stud purposes the ASM doesn't carry any weight yet but when it does become a Group 1 race (along with the Everest) they'll be clamoring to get into the race. My attitude has always been there's no time like the present so the dilly-dallying annoys me ... both races aren't going anywhere so get them both recognised asap.

  16. Next year we'll have a stronger field but in any Group 1 WFA middle distance race the field often tails off after the top 6 or 8 ... to get 14 bona-fide chances in the race would be a promoters dream. They'll make it happen next year by lifting the Benchmark qualification as well as altering the voting procedures to suit ... we might see 5 or 6 wild-cards too. 1 or 2 NQR's is acceptable though given it is a public vote. I reckon the 3 add-ons will be Mystic Journey, Fifty Stars & Hartnell ... add those 3 to Alizee, Amphitrite, Grunt, Happy Clapper & Material Man and you've got a very good field. Moss 'n' Dale & Mr Money Bags could run bold races too. And 1 or 2 of the rank outsiders could end up with a dream run from a good barrier and end up finishing in the top 8 past the post. Good money to be made for the connections of the long-shots.

  21. Yeah, ok. Understand. Will be interesting to see if 360 do stick with Lewis or pass the baton elsewhere as you suggest. Whilst I think there are other Melbourne guys like T Mac as you suggest and Max who would go quite well in this type of role, I think Lewis does it quite well and I'm happier for him to do it and let the others just focus on footy for now. I actually also quite like Lewis on 360, he shoots pretty straight, says something when it's actually worth saying and doesn't come across like an attention seeker like Jack Riewoldt.

  22. My pattern is often similar Wadda ... I usually come home strong. I might just cut out the slow starts by cutting out the early stuff! There's a thought ? In other news you'd reckon that 'Mystic Journey' would get a run in the All Star Mile after winning the Guineas today and so might 'Fifty Stars' ... Hartnell as well?

  24. Yes i also thought......we are lucky to witness a horse like Winx. Quinella paid $1.50

  25. For a moment there ... but in the end Winx ran a sizzling 01:33.27 and did it on the bit Happy Clapper picks up a lazy $114k for the connections for what looked like a bit of a jog-around. Unforgotten a fair way back to 3rd.

  26. All good Macca......that was a tough race on a tough day i guess...... We got a few picks up, so good day Winx up next. Do we go for the quinella? Why is Winx never top wieght? WFA races??

  27. What has been really noticeable today is the drifting in the market by horses that were previously at the top of the market ... I've got a few winners up but I've missed on the odds.

  28. Same as last week ... got the 'saver' winner and also got the exacta but the team misses on 'Extra Brut' - I'm picking the team says ugh and sighs. Could have gone for a shortie and that would have been 'She's so High' in race 3 so may re-evaluate my pick going forward.

  29. This option is dead not so much because it is impossible but because its implementation will involve so many compromises that if it ever gets off the ground it will be a less than adequate facility compared to those of other clubs. Time to go back to the drawing board and think again. I would not be surprised if Collingwood moves to something bigger and better in the next ten plus years. They have to spend their money on something. Richmond could bite the bullet and do the same. The likes of Esssendon and the big interstate clubs have given us a glimpse of where the training facilities of 2030 and beyond are heading.

  30. I agree, and I reckon as his body matures, gets stronger, this area will improve with it. More than his kicking length, I wish for him to get aerobically fitter, bigger tank, so he can run thru the midfield more... so he's less one-dimensional as a forward. He is already pretty reasonable imv, but to become an elite runner will only help the cause.

  32. Just got back from being out and watched all the races ii missed. Flemington looks like it is fair to all. No real leaders bias which is good for the racing, not so good for my selections. Marked Mr quickie but went with a leader Mr Ash (should have had a saver)/ Impressive win by Schabau. The oz stayers cannot hold a candle to the Europeans. Areal worry and i can't see it improving any time soon. Good win by She's so high. good price too, starting at 2.30.

  34. Is only 19 yrs has excellent skills is a consummate team player and uses the ball beautifully plays within his limitations and can/will only get better. Yes kicking can lack depthsometimes but I reckon Jesse's did also on a consistent basis and that never stopped us picking him. Reckon Spargs position in the team is his to lose at this stage. Good luck to Jeffy JKH and other prospective small forwards! Hope you all put your claim in to ensure our team is as good as possible.

  35. @binman back with a bang, good picking mate. She was way too good. An omen bet if I’ve ever seen one today, Haames wins the first at Sydney, it was Number 7 but did jump out of barrier 4.

  38. Also comes across as humble, a resident of that great footballing learning curve, anticipatory for improvement and learning about the game more deeply, and ready to give it his best after an inglorious baptism with North. Indicators so far are very much within the trend of considerable improvements to his game on the eve of the start of this season, his potential contributions and his support for the MFC and its team. I like the boy!

  39. Best Bets: Flemington Race 8 No.1 Extra Brut $4.80 (Place) Randwick R7 No 12 Pohutukawa $4.80 (Win) Randwick Race 3 No 3 Microphone (Win) $3.10 Some excellent selections there from the team.......Ok, so .....any drunken fool (which is what i am atm) can work out.....that give or take....... its roughly around 70/1 and a trip to Greece if your really keen..... . (provided they finish in the order predicted of course)..................... (hence A Day at the Races Management (ADRM) take all care, but no responsibility for punting on a very hot day). Good Luck to all and Lets Go Dees.

  40. Ok Macca, so seems a few options there. Thanks for the heads up. Dr Turf mentioned Johannes and Material Man as the quinella barring an earthquake as long as Johannes is ready to go. Think i will have a little nibble at that. Speaking of quinellas, do we know what the Winx/Happy Clapper quinella is paying yet? Gotta be 1.50 doesnt it???

  41. Got my copy alright BM ... my local newsagent shut down a little while ago as is the growing trend so now have to go elsewhere. I have a connection to the managing editor of WP as I played cricket with his brother for quite some time. Still a great publication but I especially like the feature articles including the overseas write-ups. The 'Backtrack' section is fascinating too ... not included of late though for some reason.

  43. For those yet to renew, I just saw this on club website: Renew by Friday 22nd March and be in the draw to WIN You could WIN: - Return flights and accommodation for 2 people to our Round 18 game in Alice Springs - 2 x Tickets to attend Round 18 in the Territory Lounge - 2 x Post-match access Change room passes for Round 18 - VIP training experience in Alice Springs It might help the cause if the club put that in a story on the Home page rather than buried in a tab on the 'Membership' page. Membership is now 37,856 - 4,500 up on same time last year and 7,200 to break last year's record. And 12,200 to get to the magic 50,000 members! I reckon we can do it, especially if the MCC/MFC campaign goes well!
