  2. To those poo pooing this because you haven't heard of her do not discount the "free" publicity things like this generate. She is A-list in Hollywood and this has gained a lot of media attention and gives the brand a small bump. All the online media outlets had our jumper front and centre for a few minutes in the 24 hour media cycle and I'm sure all the papers will have our jumpers front and centre (well maybe on the back page) tomorrow. This seemed to fall in our lap and I'm always jealous seeing other teams with celebs sporting their jumpers. Most definitely not going to win us a premierships, bring in memberships or make us money but it's better than being totally irrelevant and it's nice to see positive stories particularly after our bystander status during the draft.

  3. Weideman is a very exciting prospect. He could really surprise the competition over the next few years. He's been in the club doing weights since early October.

  7. I agree PD. He has all the tools - good hands, excellent kicking technique, good marking technique, for a big fella terrific below the needs and quick hands. He is q natural footballer. Also a smart fella who is a learner. I was really impressed with his ability to develop his ruck skills last season. By the end if the year he looked a natural. But what excites me most is I think that he has got scope to get a lot better as he gets bigger. Great to hear he has been hitting the weights and I suspect he will get a bit taller and broader in the next 1-2 years. He will be a really scary threat for opposition defenders. In some ways weeds development trajectory is old school in terms of how, with lists of 50 odd players, bugs used to be given time to find their feet before being rushed into the seniors. Well managed by the dees and the timing of Hogan's departure is perfect in terms of where weed is at developmentally. Unleash the weed.

  8. Makes me feel very old, even more so when you look at birth dates. Each year, I see these images of new recruits and think how excited and hopeful they appear. The fulfillment of a dream. The dark side is that most of these kids will not make it and be forgotten in time. Chewed up and spat out by the sausage factory that the entertainment industry known as professional sport has become. In the early days we vicariously live their dream as many of us had these same childhood dreams of playing for the Demons or playing Test Cricket for Australia. Before our unreality became our reality. And then later we criticize many of these kids and tear down their dreams with our words. He's a spud, he's soft, he's too slow, he's a turnover king, he's only a depth player, he's a list clogger. How long will it be before we experts make our assessments and condemn these kids with our words ? We will be quick to name the young star with words and labels such as he's a gun, he's a jet, he's elite etc and identify ourselves with the talented ones such as "Clarrie", yet at the same time be quick to condemn others as "spuds."" We live in a fickle world and nothing is more fickle than footy. It would be nice if we supported all our players through thick and thin irrespective of their talents and performance on the field. They could be our sons and they deserve our support and encouragement, knowing that many will face disappointment after a year or two. However, they have been successful in making an AFL list and have experienced training and playing at the highest level. How good would it be to say that you had been on an AFL list. I have met many ex-Demon players that live in the country and played footy with the Dees. Some played a few games and some played more, but they are all proud to have played for the Dees.

  12. At times in 2017 he looked pedestrian in the VFL, but I'm certain it was his lingering ankle injury that curbed his last year in the TAC. He had another operation on his ankle at the end of 2017 and it seems to have done the trick. He showed last year that he still has the athletic traits that excited when he was a junior. A bigger stronger Weideman is something to salivate over.

  13. Not really OD. PD has explained mainly why but it was your refusal to acknowledge any positive attribute or your willingness to look beyond your singular negatively. As PD said, we all get it wrong but few have ever bagged a player like you did Weed. I'll be happy if you learn something from this. We'll see.

  15. Yes. He might complain that you've brought it up, but it was the frequency in which he derided him as a player. If he'd made the odd observation and got it wrong, like we all have, you wouldn't be tagging him in a post. He must have said it 50 times. When you're that incessant about a player's supposed failings you've got to wear it when they prove you wrong. And if he's not yet convinced about Weideman he ought give up watching football. I don't like to bandy the word "star" around too often, but I think he'll become a bona fide star of the competition.

  16. It is very easy to under-estimate Charlie Spargo but if you go through the highlights of all our matches this season it is surprising how often he was involved in important goals. He is smart, recognizes his limitations and always chooses the right option - and he has just turned 19. I am an unabashed fan. Jeff at his best is great but i fear that he has got a lot to prove before he gets to play in the firsts again. His form for Casey was disgraceful.

  17. Sorry if any of this has been posted in this discussion, but I am being lazy (and probably sensible) and not reading all the previous posts. I dont post often but think i am pretty accurate with my intel, and i have been told that Keilty will be playing forward this year. Secondly, they were keen to rookie mclean, as they had thought about doing the previous season, but in the rookie draft, they thought that chandler was a better option, as they rated him highly. (i did question why he wasnt selected the day before if they rated him so highly!! didnt get much of an answer!) The same with last year, they had planned on drafting mclean, but petty was still available and that rated him higher.

  19. Massive fan and has caused me to throw things at the TV. In saying this, I believe the step up of Harmes and Brayshaw will drive him. I think this will be the year we see what he can do.

  20. I think Petracca is judged very harshly and is the victim of media hype and supporter expectation. 24 disposals, a goal and 3 tackles a game plus making the AFLPA best 22 Under 22 team - all in a supposedly average season that saw him hospitalised with blood poisoning... At 22, he's still years off his peak and when compared to a player like Dustin Martin, his statistical output at this stage of their respective careers is comparable. I think he'd find life a lot easier on the field if he was able to shed 5kg, but while at times he looks laid back, he's never struck me as a 'lazy'.

  28. Weideman is going to be a beauty. He has all the physical attributes and skills, and has footy smarts. He seems intelligent, well grounded and level headed. His behaviour and body language on the field is positive and he does the team things well. Also a cool head as we saw in the finals. He’s a team player and seems bonded with his team mates. The reaction from his team mates suggested the feeling is mutual. His attitude and behaviour on the field reminds me a bit of Tom McDonald. He keeps battling irrespective of the score line. He is going to become a very valuable player and will be chased by other clubs no doubt with Collingwood at the top of the list. As you can tell, I’m a huge fan.

  30. I can't for the life of me understand why alleged "supporters" are writing these young blokes off sight unseen (or based on a brief video). What is it that you don't get? Apart from the fact that they are boys that are still growing and maturing, they have been selected by the powers that be at our club as having the potential to be AFL footballers. FCS give them a bloody chance!

  35. A good comparison. Weed will be bigger but like Kennedy he has got long reach. As he gets stronger he, like Kennedy started doing in his mid 20s, will really start clunking his marks. Really it has never been harder for big forwards given the use of zones, mids pushing back hard and out numbers down back. So many marking contest are pack situations, which puts a premium of strength. But like West Coast do we will of course continue to try and transition the ball quickly and provide Tmac and Weed as many one out opportunities as possible. One on one Weed will be as hard, maybe harder, to beat than TMac, with his height, strength and reach. Good times.

  36. Overall, it is a great result. Jackson certainly left us in a very strong position: financial, staff, sponsors and football. Hard to believe it all happened in just 5 years. I have little doubt we will continue his work and be a really strong club again.

  37. If Riewoldt & Lynch both go down, Richmond have? If Cox and ???? Go down Collingwood have??? if Darling & Kennedy go down Eagles have ???? Big KPF are hard to find and very few come up to speed within a few years of being drafted. Hogan was one of the few. Demons have TMac and Weideman on the way. If either go down the Demons may look to Preuss to do a Cox like role, or turn to TSmith, Keilty, Petty or even OMac. Not many if any teams have a good 3rd big key forward!

  44. The Jake Lever trade has washed through the system now and can be viewed in (close to) completion. The 2 1st rounders we traded both ended up with Carlton and they chose O'Brien and Stocker. We took Petty with the 2nd rounder we got back. It's harder to track the late future 3rd and 4th round pick swap because we combined our 3rd with another 3rd and swapped that to the Saints for a 2nd so we didn't end up with the player at that pick and it would be a bit of exaggeration to say we got Jordon with it because we added something but it's as close as I can get. The future 4th round pick we traded ended up at St. Kilda and they took Robbie Young. So ... In: Lever Petty Jordon* Out: O'Brien (Carl) Stocker (Carl) Young (St.K) Clearly "bent over" : )
