  1. Max gawn is not on the trade table, he is deep in negotiations about a long term extension. Depending on who you believe Salem is also not on the table.

  5. At the moment we are all speculating about speculation. As I understand it, there are no deals done outside of the trade period. We have not even spoken to Adelaide. Reporters can ask players a question "Would you like Lever at the Dees"? And report the answer (creating news) . So far, I have not seen an unsolicited statement from anyone. We should not even be talking to him now as he prepares for the finals matches in front of him. We may have spoken to his agent, but the rest is either 'pre-negotiation signalling' or speculation. All the flogs in the media who suggest picks and players know NUTHINK. I am pleased that the Dees play things close to their chests, and dont leak these days, only signal. We are not the only ones in the running for Lever. When he comes out in the media and selects us as his preferred destination - then GAME ON!

  6. Try viewing this thread the same way you'd view a tv show about aliens. There are parts you'd say 'That'd be awesome!' There are parts where you'd say 'That's absurd!' In your heart of hearts, you probably know that everything you're see is complete fabrication and misunderstanding, but, depending on how bored you are, there are parts you choose to believe.

  9. I love how we get so picky when we've been banging on all year about our lack of outside run and distribution. Here is a guy that offers precisely that. We were never going to get Kelly, so put that one in the bin. We know that Kelly would compliment any midfield perfectly and is just what we lack, blah, blah, blah. But he's not in the picture. So in turning our attention to a realistic alternative, Gaff really does fit the bill nicely (yes, I do believe Gaff is gettable now that the Eagles' ball winners are all retiring, they'll look to rebuild). Let's really think about this. Gaff is a nice kick, he runs all day, he gets to good positions as a result and would suit our game style to a tee. You only have to look at how integral Hibberd and Hunt's run became to our play this year to know Gaff's strengths are perfect for our team. He's also a far better wing option than the aging and much slower Lewis. And let me ask you this. Does Isaac Smith win his own ball? Does Lewis Jetta win his own ball? Does Brad Hill win his own ball? Gaff is in exactly the same category and would compliment Viney, Oliver, Tyson, Petracca and Salem beautifully.

  11. Disagree strongly. I believe Watts would do the opposite and play a great game in the GF. Look at the big Queens Birthday game.He certainly didn't crumble in this one. We just cannot affored to lose SKILLED foorballers. Not enough on our list.

  12. Anyone heard of the "Whale" Roberts? Richmond traded him out and KB says it's one of the worst decisions the club made in his time. He was part of the fabric of the club, the players loved him and loved playing with him. Now think Max Gawn and you might understand why anyone in their right mind wouldn't think of trading him.

  13. Interesting .... his 2017 form was not that great and one has to wonder if 2016 is his norm or an aberration. If we had a reasonable replacement I could be persuaded but as we haven't it is but a thought point.

  14. I don't think anyone in the industry thought 2 first rounders was a reasonable offer for Gibbs.

  18. Scene: AFL House. A new staff member is being shown around. Mary: ... and here's your desk. Lunch room is over there behind the photocopier. I'll get your parking pass from HR, then we'll--- DING DING DING DING DING DING A-OOGA! A-OOGA! A-OOGA! Kendra: what's that? Mary: alarm bells are going off. Critical level. That's the highest. Kendra: do we have to evacuate? Mary: no, it's the alarm that's triggered when Mr McLachlan is in danger of missing one of the bonus clauses in his contract. Come with me. You might learn something. They enter GIL MCLACHLAN'S office Gil is at his desk, sweating, with shirt sleeves rolled up, staring at a crumpled piece of paper in his hand. Gil: We only needed 14,000 at that game! 14 bloody thousand to trigger the finals attendance bonus. 14 bloody thousand! Mary: are you talking about the GWS game, Mr McLachlan? Gil: Oh, Mary, there you are. What the f*** are we going to do? They can't draw two men and a dog! This is a disaster. Looks like I'm not going to the Cote d'Azur now! I'll be in the bloody Bahamas again for the holidays if I don't get this bonus! Mary: what was the attendance? Gil: Hang on ... here it is ... 4,065 and half of those were school kids we let in for free. Mary: It didn't look great on TV. Gil: oh, f*** the TV! Who cares about how it looked? We're in a crisis here! Dammit, even the pie revenue is a disaster. Total of 63 sold for the whole frigging match! Mary: that's not good. That's really not good. Kendra: a low pie consumption can still be indicative of a high population. Gil & Mary: what? Kendra: according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2013, sales of pies, pastries and other baked products containing trans fats has been steadily declining since 1999. Gil: what? Mary: how does that help us, Kendra? Kendra: if I recall from the annual report of the Australian Bakers and Pastry Chefs Association from last year, specifically the datum representing consumption of meat pies per capita, consumption of 63 pies could be representative of a population from anywhere between ... let's see ... (types into phone) 2,852 and 14,865 people. Depending on various factors to be more precisely defined. Gil: what's she saying, Mary? Mary: I think she's saying ... Mary & Kendra: there could have been 14,865 people at the game. Gil: you mean ... over 14,000? Mary: over 14,000. Gil: I'm saved!!! Mary: well done. I can see you're going to go far, Kendra Kendra: (slightly shocked) did you say I’m going to "get f***ed"??? Mary: no, no, that was when Simon was here. That's all over now. I said you'll GO FAR. Kendra: oh, that's better. Still, if those c***s don't pull some genuine crowds soon, we'll ALL be f***ed!

  26. I think it's obvious how good Gawn can be. In his first uninterrupted preseason he was AA and by some margin. Some of his tap work in that year to our mids was sublime and a distinct advantage. Even talk of trading him = FMD.

  27. he didn't seem fully fit or nqr after he came back from hammy. was he carrying an injury?

  28. Gawn is one who I would trade and get maximum value at his peak (like a share). Not sure how his knees are going to hold up but interestingly our form dropped off after his return, unsure why? The mobile ruckmen of the comp quite often dominate him also.
    3 points
  29. I do worry about the longevity of Gawn both with his knees and with his type of ruckman being made redundant by rules to protect more flexible players that will run off him and make him look slow and one dimensional... It would be cold blooded if we move him on though...
    3 points
  30. The olny fly in the ointment is that we are getting rid of Spencer. We have no 'insurance' if Gawn goes, and the ruck concept comes back into fashion. We need good big men that can take contested marks (we were thrashed in this department all year). Gawn is worth more than Lever, so we would want to get a bucketload back if we were to allow him to move. It would strike me as nuts, but I am not the FD. Better is to redefine Gawn as a forward/ruck and rotate him more heavily.

  31. Just heard from my old man who deals with a few clients who are close to Melbourne officials, that Gawn could be on the move as we are looking to use him to secure Lever and retain our top picks to then get Gaff. They believe with the way the game is evolving that having that extra runner in the midfield in the form of Watts / Pedo / Tmac rotating in ruck we are less reliable on just winning hit outs and become more unpredictable. Very complex deal, up to 4 clubs involved something along the lines of Gawn to GWS, their 1st rounder + 2nd rounder to Carlton, Gibbs to Adelaide, Lever to Melbourne. Our pick 10 for Gaff and looking to land another experienced player through free agency from Geelong, that's all I know (starting to think it's Motlop, wants a fresh start and would compliment as another outside runner and also to help support Jeffy and look to improve his forward line pressure) Don't shoot the messenger. Cheers.

  32. It all depends on what the issue is with Stringer at the Dogs: He may have some irreconcilable relationship issue with Dog player(s) that he will leave behind He may have some personal issue that the Dogs believe is unfixable - they do exist If it's #1 then he could be a good pick up for someone. If it's #2 beware.

  33. Why would the Crows start with an offer to Lever of $300k? That is madness particularly to a bloke who is perhaps thinking about going home. You are basically saying we rate you as a very average player. I know it is just an initial offer but it is so far off his worth it is dumb management

  34. While we talk Lever it is interesting to recall what Dangerfield was traded for. Considering he is the best player in recent times to be traded he is a good benchmark. "GEELONG has sealed the Patrick Dangerfield trade with Adelaide. The Cats have given up young midfielder Dean Gore as well as picks No.9 and No.28 to snare the superstar midfielder. The Cats gain Dangerfield and Adelaide's third-round draft pick, currently No.50. Gore was pick No.55 at the NAB AFL Draft but was on the verge of senior selection early in 2015 before he suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss seven weeks. He then returned strongly to be part of the selection mix late in the season averaging more than 20 touches a game at VFL level on at least three occasions. " http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-12/young-cat-set-to-move-home-as-part-of-dangerfield-deal So for one of the best players in the league Geelong gave up pick 9 and 28 plus a VFL player. It seems to me that offering our first and second round for Lever is by comparison way overs.

  35. He has wimped it DF. some crap about being too far away and is counting by months. Can you believe it? Sounds like he has the very same problem he is berating the team for. Not enough endeavour. Sad but some struggle to go the distance DF.

  38. Are there any articles/info out there saying he is actually interested in a trade back to Melbourne? They are losing Priddis and Mitchell this year, so I doubt they'd be keen to lose all of their midfield in one year...

  39. Many on Demonland wouldn't have given Craig Bradley a game, because he didn't get contested ball.
    2 points
  40. They want two first round picks - sounds like they get their bargaining strategies from Demonland. They low balled him at $300k, they knocked back a good offer for Gibbs. I think we need to approach this with clear air - We should pay fair, but not overs to Adelaide for the trade. He wants to come, so let him! Offer a pack of burger rings and a used toothbrush, and lowball them for starters...

  41. I don't want an outside mid. A player who can get his own ball, has a bit of leg speed & hits a target will do just fine.
    2 points
  42. Covers ground, gets outside (averages most uncontested possies in the league), and kicks it 18 times a game. Neat left foot too. He would complement our hard nosed midfield. He really is the exact type of player we require short of a star of the game of course (which every couple 'needs').

  47. As much as Kelly or someone of that ilk would help us, i really think players of Gaff's stature are the players to go for eg Lever (Gun but not a superstar - despite the alleged large contract). Why go for a superstar or two that cost copious amounts when you can get very decent players cheaper to make up a very decent team. Even though Kelly would help, i just don't like the thought of throwing the kitchen sink at one player when you can make a collectively good team. Just my two cents y'all
