  1. He was pretty outspoken about the recent staff cuts by The Age, so he may have dug his own grave. It's a shame that his moronic counterpart at The Hun didn't suffer the same fate. As a journo, I'd take Connolly over Slobbo any day of the week.

  2. Yes. Having a Collingwood mate is delusional.

  5. Yes he was wearing a helmet thing morning. And was kept out of any competitive drills. He doesn't really need confidence. He needs technique training, awareness, strength and a bit of good luck. The helmet might help with the latter - it could provide a small amount of cushion for any time he's unlucky to get hit in the head. Otherwise though I hope there's a plan to teach him the rest. A bit of time in the gym to bulk up his shoulders and neck to give him some extra strength for protection. A heap of ground and aerial ball work to allow him to win the ball whilst protecting his head. Then game style training that sees him move and react without leaving his head open for contact.

  6. Flying down Friday and back Tuesday, can't bloody wait. My partner will be attending her first AFL game, very excited.

  7. Best of luck. Hope he is able to get it right, as he is an asset at his best.

  8. I'm also laughing at how he is apparently a "spud". Overpaid, yes. A mercenary, probably. Injury prone, seems so. But he is not a spud when up and going. Im not necessarily saying we should get him, but if the price and his body are right, there's no doubting he fills a hole in our list.

  9. The word I am getting is Hogan still a likely starter. He is fit, wants to play, but faces a mixed view from footy department on whether he is mentally ready and physically conditioned. It will come down to selection committee on Thursday. There may also be some gamesmanship going on here. Thats what I am hearing. It's from the top. Its by no means absolute. Just what I am hearing. Happy to be smashed on here for giving gossip on a "gossip site". Personally I find it entertaining. Knock yourself out! Looking forward to some apologies.

  11. COLLINGWOOD has confirmed injured trio Daniel Wells, Jamie Elliott and Tyson Goldsack will miss Monday's Queen's Birthday clash with Melbourne. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-06/magpie-trio-confirmed-to-miss-queens-birthday-clash Damn shame.

  12. Spencer had a shoulder injury so he would have been able to maintain a reasonable level of aerobic fitness. If he's right he's in

  13. with watts having a niggling ankle injury he needs to be kept out of ruck duties. another reason to bring in spencil if he passes fitness tests

  14. i'll go with: IN - spencer, salem OUT - o mac, wagner

  15. I hope we're not taking any comfort from the stories about Collingwood's injuries. We've been down that road a few times before and it's rarely panned out the way we would have hoped. It's 22 v 22 and a must win.

  16. While Spencer doesn't excite me, he can at least give us something in the ruck duels and he straightens us up. Pedersen can play the majority of the game forward, which takes the pressure off Watts, Hannan and Petracca, while T Mac straightens us up down back and takes the pressure off his brother. Because of that I'd bring Spencer in if he's fit.

  20. Spencer AFL or VFL "depending on matchups" according to Misson. The caveat on matchups is just the fitness guy not overstepping the boundaries of his role by pre-empting selection - clearly Spencer is an upgrade on Pedersen in the ruck (who is an upgrade on TMac as second ruck/forward, who is an upgrade on OMac as a defender) and they view Spencer as 100% fit and primed. Zero doubt in my mind that he's in now.

  22. Second year player and frankly from what I've seen at Casey has shown more than Weideman. Silly to delist a second year tall KP forward after 2 years. Of course this is subject to attitude and other things which only the FD really know. Prima facie he's a keeper for at least a year.

  25. Bernie returns Adams' serve: "It might be (used as a motivating factor). What is he (Dunn) at a successful club now, is he? That's the first I've heard of it but we might be able to use that one as a bit of motivation. Not sure what he's done at Collingwood yet though." http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-06/is-he-at-a-successful-club-now-bernies-swipe Straight to the point! Adams has dropped Dunne right it in. The flack is directed at Dunne and he hasn't said a word. Ah well, glad Bernie fired it up a bit.

  27. The only player I was super worried about losing for any games at the start of this season was Gawn. A fully fit Gawn for the entire season and we are/were playing finals. Gawn is possibly the single most important player to any club in the competition given that we have built our game from the contest out. I wouldn't have thought this was a controversial perspective. That we have been able to cover for his absence at all has surprised (and impressed) me, particularly with Spencer also going down. Your mate is not just delusional, he's insanely one eyed and possibly not that clever.

  28. I came form the working classes in Adelaide - which meant every girl I dated in my formative years came from a Port Adelaide family. Meanwhile, I supported Norwood, Melbourne, Chelsea . . . some sort of Freudian aspirational classist self-hate I suppose.

  29. I don't take much notice of the MCG hoodoo. If we couldn't play the ground we wouldn't have strong quarters. V Carlton 6 goals in the 4th V Freo 7 goals in the 2nd and 6 goals in the last V Hawthorn 7 goals in the third V North 6 goals in the second If our game style was no good at the ground we wouldn't be having dominant quarters. Our issues have been as much about missing personnel and a young team learning a new game-plan.

  30. I really wanna see Trengove play in the seniors, even just one more time. You could call it 'wanting to get closure' on a very dark and challenging time for the club. If he plays and stinks it up, great, I'll never mention him again and he can happily play out his 20s with his mates in a quiet suburban league. But part of me yearns for that promise and potential that we saw in those early years to be fulfilled.

  33. Why can no one read "MAY REDUCE CONCUSSION" Most experts say helmets cannot prevent concussion, which I accept. I am not talking about prevention but reduction. Can anyone categorically prove that some helmets may NOT reduce concussion? I have not read that yet. Edit - I left a word out - BOLD

  36. The helmet won't help with concussion, it will help with little bumps and bruises and may simply provide him with some confidence above all else.

  40. Is Angus wearing a helmet? In training vision he is wearing an MND beanie with what appears to be a chinstrap and a hint of a helmet underneath. I , for one, am hoping so. Whilst there appears to be conflicting medical opinion re the value of helmets for concussion, I think he has little to lose and might give him the added confidence he requires.

  41. In - Spencer, Salem Out - O McDonald, Bugg Pedders forward/backup ruck. Watts freed up to play permanent forward.

  42. With pick 9? And being Nathan's brother would have been irrelevant to the recruitment team. If I was going to rewrite history on that draft I'd pick Cripps at 9 - but I'm pretty happy with Salem.

  43. Motlop anyone? Free agent and the price would have plummeted. Cats are keen to move him on. Foolhardy to think that our club environment may get more out of a player than another, but they're some of the risks you weigh up when chasing a bargain and I would back Simon in to work it. We're likely to lose Spencer (and maybe Trenners) to FA for little return, bring in Motlop, Casboult and Jackson Trengove as free agents for no currency and we potentially plug most of our pressing holes. If the price is right?

  44. Can I join the circle-irk if it's the Geelong and Richmond games that get my goat? We didn't rock up for Freo and Hawthorn - a part of football. But we got screwed against the other two after dominating most of the day, and if we don't get a chance for payback in the finals it will be those that will linger in my memory of regret.

  45. We have some massive outs too. It baffles me that the media has not made more of the fact that we've played much of the season without a dedicated ruckman and our number one forward.
    3 points
  46. Definitely. Pedo has been very handy around the ground, but has been smashed in the ruck. Also means we can push T-Mac (not a forward) back to replace O-Mac (done ok in my opinion, but only need two talls and Frost much better). Also means we always have a tall (Watts or Pedo) in the forward line.

  47. I don't get the concern about our 'bad MCG form'. I dont believe you can have bad form at a ground while having better form at other grounds during the same period. We just played badly at home a few times. what are we now, etihad specialists? no excuses Dees, get it done

  48. Sydney should be paying us to take him off their hands. Say 3/4 of his salary till contact ends plus a 2nd round pick. Seriously this guy is a spud.
