  1. Harriet Cordner has joined the Dees Women's team as a 'B' Rookie http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-10-05/cordner-continues-tradition She will be the 8th Cordner to play for Melbourne. Her grandfather Don Cordner won a Brownlow and Captained the club. Two Cordners are in our Team of the Century. While I'm sneaking in Women's league news, Daisy won the Woman of the Year award, a sort of Brownlow : http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-09-29/pearce-named-football-woman-of-the-year Oh and some new assistant coaches were appointed. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-10-04/assistants-named-for-womens-team Apologies for gate crashing the main Forum but not many people venture over to the Women's League Forum and I thought these stories were to good to miss especially the Harriet Cordner one. May she have as distinguished a footy career as her ancestors!

  3. He could have taken a 7 year, 7 million dollar deal from any number of clubs. He left a shitload of lot of guaranteed money on the table to stay with the Dees. He has just proven himself to be a great clubman, team mate and a fantastic indivudual. Jesse is officially the anti-Scully.

  5. I dislike Scully as much as the next man ( probably more) - I hate that he lied through his teeth. However, the big difference between the Scully times and Hogan times is that Scully walked away from a club that was a cesspool full of stinkiness, with prospects of improvement, let alone finals a hazy dream, for much more money. Hogan can see he is in a well run, stable club, with good people and enough good talent that will propel us up the ladder. He gave up more money to remain in a team that is going places.

  6. There is a video on the HS website which I can't get to as not a subscriber. But the caption says: " RE-SIGNED Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan has sacrificed at least $1 million to stay loyal to the Demons under a deal that secures him to the club until 2019." Whatever the figure is is not important But it does support his press conference comments that his decision was not about money. Also, In his press conference he said ...if there was a time to go back to WA it was now...so his future is in Melbourne (paraphrasing). That should dispel any lingering doubts about him chasing the $$ and his commitment to the Dees. Now we can enjoy watching him tear up the G for the next 3 years!

  7. They should get a Goalkicking Coach especially for Hogan.

  8. Strange confluence there. But seeing as you asked ... Dylan + Robbie: All along they watched Flower The princely number 2 While all the women came and swooned All the grown men too Dylan + Yoda: Down before you call him a man, how many roads must a man walk? In the sand, how many seas must a white dove sail before she sleeps? Yes! How many times the cannon balls fly must, before they are forever banned? The answer, my friend, blowing in the wind is. The answer blowing in the wind, is. And now, all three! This ball from me, mama take. Use it any more I cannot. The dark side I sense! Getting dark it is, too dark to see. Knocking on heaven's door, I can feel. Hmm! My boots in the ground, mama put. Them anymore, I cannot use. Coming down, that dark side is. Knocking on heaven's door, I can feel.

  10. Just listened to this morning's trade radio interview with Mahoney and he said that all the young players we wanted to sign up have been. We will be looking to sign up Salem and Weidemen early in the new year. So that would really lock up our young talent for a few years!

  11. One thing has been puzzling me of late about the opinions on here of the player we need. There seems to be pretty much a consensus that we need a ruck forward to help out with Max when he needs a rest. That is all well and good but who of Hogan, Watts, and Weid do you leave out of the team because having four big men forward is one too many.

  13. Honestly Abe Damo would not know a tram was up him till the Connie rang the bell. The majority of commentators at this time of the year get a morsel of info and turn it into a feast. Never let the truth ( which they don't know ) get in the road of a good story. Most of them know no more than us.

  14. I believe Barrett's commentary throughout has been that the WA clubs believed him to be 'gettable'. Which given WC's declared public interest and Hogan admitting he was 50/50 at times, was seemingly correct. Cant recall him saying he would go. I may be wrong but I suspect it was more of people hearing what they want to hear as opposed to what is actually said/reported. We we all know how much that happens on here. For the people obsessed with what the media say and going into a frenzy when they aren't right, I'd be more keen on addressing Karl Langdon who said Hogan's next contract would be for a WA club.

  15. He was also a brainless thug who punched other players in the face/jaw. He was once charged by the police for an on field assault.

  17. I wouldn't rely on the figures reported by Ralph, given that he reports that our premiership drought is now up to 62 years - "Hogan says he has aspirations to remain at Melbourne past his current deal, eager for that premiership that has eluded the Demons for so long — at 62 years now the longest premiership drought". Clearly numbers aren't his strong-suit, but 2016 - 1964 = 52 It again highlights Ralph's quality as a journalist, imo.

  18. There is only one club that has made an enquiry and that is the Lions but they were told, thanks but no thanks due to Chris' wife Paige being unwilling to leave her job/career in Melbourne. Let me assure you that if no Vic club is interested, Chris will retire.

  19. Thanks for signing on Jesse. Thanks for doing it quick and not stressing me out over the offseason. Thanks for not being a Tom Scully. Thanks for your 80 odd goals in two years. Thanks for your excellent work up the ground. Thanks for being a beast. Thanks again for sticking with us. Thanks for having the good sense to choose to run out at the 'G' as your home ground. Light up the G Jesse. Thanks for being a great player. Your critics are [censored] heads. Your footballing instinct is right up there. Thanks for marking all those forward fifty entries that Jack Watts laid onto you and allowing him to be the super talented player he is. Thank you for seemingly ignoring all the unsupportive and unnecessary negativity from one of our favourite sons in Schwartz. Thanks for making my $#cking day!

  21. Lethal Leigh was as you stated a great player and astute coach, the record doesn't lie. But he was also the biggest coward I ever saw take too the field. I could never quite understand how someone so talented could resort to such gutless thuggery. I once saw him knock Peter Giles unconscious with a king hit from behind well and truly away from the play. It was the most cowardly thing I have ever seen on a football ground. When several MFC players took umbrage with Mathews not one Hawthorn player came to help him. I believe I have heard him say that he is embarrassed and ashamed of some of the things he did on a football ground, i'm not surprised, and don't get me started on what he did to Steven Smith.

  28. Only joking. 3 years is a long time in the life of a 21 year old. One would think his connection with the club and Melbourne will get stronger over time. I think it is easy to underestimate his commitment. His words and actions would suggest he is fully on board for the long haul.

  30. He needs to either improve his speed quite a bit, or find a role where he isn't found wanting in this area, i really hope a full pre season can help him recapture his early career form and he'll be a huge bonus for us going forward. either way he's proved the doubters wrong and made it back to AFL level for those few games which is a gigantic effort, if he can do that i am backing him in to find an extra yard and lock his spot down

  31. Run, run run, kick it and hope... Never rated him when he was a pie, and rate him less now. He can stay or retire, but unless we are hit by injuries (god forbid) then Casey should be the best he should hope for

  32. I popped in cause i could hear the noise from the Uni, where i work. There were about 1000 odd fans and a small part of Sturt St. blocked off, and a lot of media trucks. Chris Grant seemed to be doing much of the talking and a bit by Bev. who couldnt stop smiling and chatting to anyone. They must have played the song 10 or so times, but it was nothing without the players and people seemed a bit disappointed. At the end they passed The Cup around, and yes i touched it, but only the red and blue ribbons....

  34. I really liked his honesty in that interview. Happily admitted that, at one stage, he was 50/50 about where he wanted to play his footy which is totally understandable. He came over to Melbourne at 17 and I'm sure the lure to be home with family and friends would be strong. However, it seems he has a great relationship with Goody and McCartney and we've created a great environment to play football in. In the end it seems that the club has put all the right things in place and that made his decision much, much easier. Well done to the club and it's bloody super to have Jesse on board for at least another 3 years!

  35. Disagree. For the first two years, he had a decent presence and made a big difference to the team's performance when he played. If anything, I think the clubs lack of mature forward options in his early years with the club may have negatively impacted his career by having him play injured, always rushing him back and not allowing him to properly get over injuries. My view is that he's given good service to the club in the time that he's been here and it would be sad to see him go on the present terms. I think the real assessments needs to be made by our medical/fitness staff, because if his body just isn't up to it anymore, then I think based his performance this year (which I'm has been limited by physical fitness) then, the club certainly can't afford to keep him on the list.

  36. What happened was, Hoges was going on about wanting to travel, and the FD played him some episodes of "Getaway" and told him he could end up like Dermie. Ten minutes later the deal was done.

  40. I have a suspicion, with the rumours of a 4 year deal, ( 3 year extension ), to be announced this week and then the revelation from the club, that it was a 2 year extension and only signed last night, that there may have been a change of mind, to only extend for 2 years on his Manager's advice, so as to tie in with any FA rule change to 6 years. Anyway, great that he has signed and continuing the buy in of all our younger players.
