  1. Thanks Moony and BB. He is fully recovered now and doesn't seem to be suffering any long term effects. He's in the middle of his HSC and maybe it knocked some sense into him because he's doing better than in the past. He suffered from headaches for many months and then even after that when he got headaches they were much worse than before. But its long gone now. I posted his story because it gives you some idea of what can happen with concussion. I can understand that any player suffering a similar concussion could be out for a long time like HL is at the moment. And why they need to be super conservative with a young man like Gus.

  3. Heading over again as my (probably) only trip for the year. If Viney plays I would be bloody stoked.

  4. My son suffered a bad concussion two years ago in a game. It was an innocuous knee from a teammate into his cheek. He ended up having to be in a dark room 5 days after the hit. He was off school for two weeks and then he started getting bad headaches if he had to do anything involving too much thinking for another two weeks. Eg in visual arts he was fine. In maths he got headaches. It was a very weird five weeks. I've learnt a new appreciation for how serious it can be and for how long.

  5. Don't like Garlett out. Yes his last 2 weeks have been bad. But just a few weeks ago I saw him get out the back on attack so many times. Did anyone see Collingwood's defence last week?

  6. Good to see Jeff Garlett being held accountable for his putrid form.

  7. Grimes' consistent form should be rewarded. 14 tackles along with another 25 possessions. For heaven's sake, he's earned a game. Seeing him get shat on at selection is starting to really bother me.

  8. One area of the club I think the footy department seems to have full confidence in is... The Footy Dept. I don't say that flippantly (although, admittedly, I probably typed it that way). That's a brave call about Jeffy and it's obviously based on the fact they feel they have clearly defined the things he needs to do to be in the senior team and he hasn't done them. So he gets a spell. Very confident decision. Regardless of how I feel about it personally it does set a standard.

  10. The Prince played his best 2 games for the club earlier this year. I think he has been missed a lot. Particulalrly when we have such an inexperienced back line.

  12. Careful. It can lead to serious cognitive dissonance when a patient 100% supports both the club, the admin and the all the players.

  13. Not to mention Cloke being dropped as well. He has been putrid but it's still a relief as I had this nightmare of him kicking 6. Garlett being dropped is 50/50 for me too - on one hand he is such a dangerous player in our forward 50, but on the other hand it sets a good precedent - the moment you don't do the team things and your form drops, you're out. Good message to send for the long term.

  14. Dermie says everything with the arrogance of an omniscient deity. That's why it's so funny when he's so often wrong.

  15. That sounds terrible. And to a young brain. We know so little about what this does long term. Hope he's better IT.

  17. We are ten rounds into the VFL season and the Casey Scorpions are on top of the ladder with only one loss for the year. Surprisingly, that's how long it's taken Channel 7 to recognise the Scorpions and televise one of their games but please forgive my cynicism because the game they've picked to show off the boys from Casey involves Collingwood which always rates well and gets more than its share of coverage - Channel 7: Saturday & Sunday coverage CASEY SCORPIONS v COLLINGWOOD VFL Saturday 11 June 2016 Casey Fields at 2.10pm CASEY SCORPIONS B: Grimes Pedersen Oliver HB: White Hutchins Garland C: Kent Viney Newton HF: M Jones Keilty Garlett F: Terlich T Smith Harmes FOLL: Spencer Neal-Bullen Michie I/C (from): Briggs D Collis Hulett Kennedy Max King Moncrieff Morris Muir Munro Pattison Patullo* Scott Wilson COLLINGWOOD VFL B: Golds Marsh R Pendlebury HB: Toovey Brown Sinclair C: Goodyear Wills Oxley HF: Goldsack Cloke MacAffer F: Borthwick Gault Ferguson FOLL: Witts Greenwood Aish I/C (from): Collopy Gray Hellier Hinkley Indovino* Hore L Howe Kelly Knight Moloney Rambaldi Smith Wallace * 23rd player The Development League team has a bye. Meanwhile, 19 year old Tom Glen who participated as 23rd player in Casey's last two wins over Box Hill and Collingwood is set to line up with Frankston this week. Don't ask me how or why but apparently Tyler Roos did something similar last year.

  18. If I were seeking a way for Garlett to recapture his form and confidence, I'd send him to the forward pocket on Queen's Birthday at the MCG against Collingwood and tell him to kick goals.

  19. Garlett out over Kent and Harmes is just bloody stupid. What's the argument? He had a down couple of weeks? How many have Kent and Harmes had? We better win this. The selections this season continue to annoy me.

  26. It seems she was nailed by her (deliberate?) concealment: "If she had not concealed her use of Mildronate from the anti-doping authorities, members of her own support team and the doctors whom she consulted, but had sought advice, then the contravention would have been avoided," it (the report) said. That is the same hook that hung the EFC players: concealment from drug testers, doctors, managers etc. and didn't seek advice (from anti doping authority). Its simple: Athlete responsible!!

  28. While the AFL says: win more games to get Fri night (& other prime TV) times it simply isn't true (see no. of Carl and Ess over the last 3 years). The reality is prime FTA time slots (and the whole fixture on venues, Home game opponents, start times etc) favour the Big Vic clubs. The 'system' keeps the strong clubs strong, and b....er the rest!! Will be interesting to see how many how many Thur. Fri. Sat night FTA time slots Rich, Carl. Ess. Hawth. Coll have next year!! Unfortunately, we missed the boat in the early 2000's when those clubs were setting up training and club facilities cheaply and marketing their clubs very successfully, building memberships. Even in our successful years (2000 to 2006) our admin sat on its laurels. Now we are stuck in a 'Catch 22' relying on the largesse of the AFL. PJ and Co are working hard to get us back onto the radar eg Anzac Eve, record membership, good sponsors. As always, we need to win more games to get more members. Then even if we don't get many prime FTA gigs at least PJ can rally to have the big Vic as our Home game opponents, to increase our revenues. Then the wheel starts turning in our favour. Are we irrelevant? Less so than a few years ago. But we are pushing uphill to get noticed.

  30. 500 gb p/m plan with Internode, $95 p/m. Advertised speed was 100mbps download, 40 mbps upload. I am reliably getting 95 mbps download speeds, so I'm very happy that the reality reflects the advertising. My old ADSL plan was $75 per month. $20 per month for these sorts of speeds is well worth it. Netflix is unmetered on Internode, so no Netflix content (all delivered without buffering in glorious full HD to multiple devices simultaneously btw) counts toward my 500 gb cap. Link to plan here: http://www.internode.on.net/residential/broadband/nbn/ Netflix is $15 per month, and with a household of 4 it's a bargain. It's on all the TVs, computers, 2 tablets and 3 phones. Yes we have more devices than people, but that's what happens when you get a free upgrade every 18 months AFL app is comparatively expensive. The AFL live pass is $90 per annum. Since it's only used for 9 months of the year, that's $10 per month for 2 hours of content I watch per week. Compare that with Netflix's $15 per month for basically everything I watch, it's pricey. But I pay it because it's the best way I can get AFL right now without the crazy expense of Foxtel. I also play online games quite a lot, and the additional speed is invaluable. I won't get into the advantages of low pings in multilayer games (especially being an Aussie), but to give you a simple example from last night; I went to play a game I play often and found that a patch (installed that morning) had corrupted my install. The best solution was to uninstall and reinstall the game, which involved a 9 gb download (the entire game again). If this had happened on ADSL, I would have set the download overnight and played the next day. On FTTP, I was playing the game 15 minutes later.

  31. We all now know way more about concussion injuries that we did just a couple of years ago. At the end of the day it is only a game which see most playes finish in their early thirties and for some earlier. All the players have a long time to live after football. I do not care how long the industry or my club gives players out to re cover. If we lose a game so be it. The players life after football is way more important.

  36. And it is only his left hand. Doesn't stop him kicking, running, harassing etc etc. Roos is probably messing with Buckley's head!! Buckley can't ignore the possibility in his planning. Diversionary tactic by Roos! We will find out on Sunday/Monday.

  37. So how do the EFC get Friday night and Saturday night games? All those here that have rabbited on in the past about 'we have to perform better to get good games on TV and good fixtures against big clubs' now have it writ large that the fixture and TV rights are a cartel. It's like the MRP though. COmplaining just gives you a headache and doesn't achieve anything.

  38. SEN have just quoted Roos as saying that Viney will be in the squad of 25 for QB. Apparently is 50/50. Miraculous recovery! Or is it Roos messing with Buckley's currently vulnerable mind! Hope he plays!!!

  39. I agree i think we've missed H more than some think. Hary does march to his own drum but the tempo he exhibited and spread he required were starting to come into our game. That would have got better as it meshed over the season. Weve now not had this eventuate; might not. The likes of his and Gus's predicaments are most unfortunate.
