Considering what this thread was meant to be about, what a pile of [censored] it turned into. Disappointing. I'm glad he's back moving around with a ball in his hand already, he must be over the moon. I'm with HH, I'm excited to see Petracca and Hogan together, adds another dimension and some more physicality.7 points

Essendon has hard decisions to make on the field but must first decide if James Hird will coach in 2016 The paradox at Bomberland is that while the drug scandal has raged on for such an inordinate length of time, it has, in all likelihood, masked other issues about James Hird's suitability as an AFL coach. People are asking, will he be there as coach in 2016 and what further damage will be done to the Bombers' future prospects by the prolonged saga? Robbo, the Essendon propagandist is having his two bob each way. He's asking whether the bloke can coach? Does he still have the respect of the playing group? Have the players been damaged irrevocably under the pressure of the long running scandal? I once expressed admiration at how the Essendon players had stuck fat and performed so admirably for such a long time under the cloud of the ASADA investigation but now it's all falling apart. Perhaps they've come to the realisation that the club's propaganda line which was supported strongly by media acolytes like Robbo, Chip Le Grand and Tracey Holmes and the Deakin Uni academic might be flawed? In any event, it looks as though they're buckling under the weight of it all and in that respect, I have sympathy for their plight because they are the victims of appalling administration at both AFL and EFC level as well as an unwieldy system of dealing with drug cheats, made more difficult by the obvious cover ups at Essendon. The AFL Tribunal's handling of the case didn't help matters either and we are now in a situation whereby Essendon is in a state of atrophy pending a result from the WADA appeal which is still a way off. To sack Hird would cost them a bucketload of cash, they still have no idea of the sort of team they will be able to field next year, their capacity to trade is restricted because very few are prepared to trade draft picks. They can't stop, reload and rebuild for a future with a new coach and a clean slate (would anyone want to coach them anyway?). If I was an Essendon supporter I would be regretting the day when David Evans was knifed and the Bombers walked away from the prospect of a deal that could have made this all go away by late 2013. At that time, things could have been fixed much easier without huge cost and the enormous toll on the lives of the players and supporters. And we all know the identity of the one person most to blame for all of this.5 points

This might be the last exhibition game. Really hope the MFC is keen to obtain one of the licenses once the national comp is launched. I've been really proud of the role our club has played over the last three years in the rise of women's footy. It would be a real shame if our involvement didn't continue.5 points

Hopeully all goes smoothly. Every club in the land would love a drawcord like Howe playing for them. Once you have the first injection you can lose count and the primary objective becomes to have more injections without telling anyone and then you begin to lie to yourself and everyone around you. It's the same with stats, the media, the truth. Apparently most of Essendons clean disposals were put into a little yellow box but never recorded.4 points

I went today to have a look for the first time at Curnow and Parish. I'm glad I did in the end, was a peach of a day for footy and both Curnow and Parish played major roles in a comfortable win for the Falcons. Darcy Parish: I'd heard about his kicking before today, but no one has mentioned how good his hands are. Clean and fast, he seemed to be one step ahead of his opponents, and sometimes his teammates, for most of the afternoon. He also possesses incredible vision, and spotted open players that even I didn't see from my spot in the grandstand. The most impressive part of his game though, was how good his decision making was and how quickly he executed those decisions. As previously stated, it was the quick handballs and the ability to pull the trigger by foot and hit a teammate on the chest in space that made him stand out. He played in the midfield for most of the day, but when rested forward still looked dangerous. Anyone who thinks he isn't hard enough clearly hasn't watched him. Although I doubt he'll ever be a clearance, contested ball winning machine, he seemed to have no issue taking a hit. He will need to work on his defensive running and pressure in the AFL, and I would be surprised if he registered a tackle for the entire game. He probably finished with about 20 odd disposals, so he wasn't exactly dominant, and as I alluded to before he reminded me of Nick Dal Santo. Charlie Curnow: Charlie finished the game with 4 goals (by my count), which the Falcons staff must be stoked with as it was his first game back after having significant time out through injury. First thing you notice about Curnow is his size, he is very well built for a kid. He played forward for the whole game and was dominant, every time the ball came near him something looked like happening. Probably took 4 or 5 contested marks for the day, and was very clean in the air. Can take a grab. Although he didn't play through the midfield, there were a few instances where it was clear he has great midfield potential. Incredibly strong, and like Parish seems to be very clean by hand in the trenches. Wouldn't have missed a target by foot all day either. I'd be surprised if Curnow holds up as a full-time key forward, don't think he has the height to be a modern key position player. I've seen Skippos on Bigfooty compare him to Stringer and Darling. I disagree, he isn't as dynamic and is certainly not as quick. I'd say Josh Kennedy/Nat Fyfe would be a far better comparison. Feel free to ask any questions about the game today, I'll answer as best I can.4 points

I dispute that the players are victims. They consented. They were responsible for what they were injected with. They failed to do any research into what they were being injected with. They have stuck fat with the club and Hirdy. No sympathy4 points

If Lions finish last and Leuenberger goes on a massive contract, as a FA, they are entitled to pick 2 as compo same as we got 3 for Chip. If he is taken on a moderate contract, they are not entitled to that pick. As for a PP, they are so far ahead of our position when we asked, 2 years in a row and got denied, they would have no chance under the rules. However this is the AFL and we know how they can bend rules and do whatever they want.4 points

Have to say I've been the same about the draft this year, for the first time in a long time. It's refreshing not having to think about who I want us to take at pick one or two! Kolash would be a great get, was hoping we'd draft him.4 points

... and something else all these have in common is that their teams have all played in finals - many of them have played in prelims. Jack may well be unique as a No.1 draft pick in playing 7 seasons in a bottom-4 team. You're comparing apples with oranges. Wonder how many of these would have done better having to contend with the sustained carp that he's had to put up with? Not least from his own "supporters".4 points

Took my 2 daughters to the clinic at Gosch's this morning, run by the whole women's Demons team. Kids loved it and all the women were great with the kids. Hung around afterwards to give all the kids a pink footy, team photo and player cards. Then signed them. My 2 now can't wait to watch tomorrow's game. Great job women's team and MFC!!!3 points

Just as I always had faith in big Maxy, I have the same sort of feel about Fitzy. He has all the tools to be a good player, great pace and ground skills for one so tall, good mark and kick. Should only get better with age as most big men do.3 points

FMD. Get over it. He's become a handy player for us, we can't go back and re-do the draft. He's had Bailey & Neeld as his coaches to start his career with. You think it's a coincidence he's only now starting to really show what he's worth under Roos and McCartney?3 points

You can see why Sandy was so successful in those days. Their VFL affiliated players were strong types and could really play good footy and they had solid support from the MFC contingent. Put my hand up and ate my fair share of humble pie because of it after his performance this year. Now whats your point?Unlike you who is just a silly old fool who talks up every player on our list then turns on them at every quick opportunity is seriously quite pathetic. I'm always willing to cop my wack on the chin and admit to whatever fault i have done in the past. Its no wonder people don't take you serious on here. Btw loved how you had a cry last night saying i have supposedly given you cheap shots? when i come on here to have a read and see you want to take another wack at me LOL Your a full blown hypocrit HH. Btw to every other normal person who reads this i sincerely apologize this might have derailed this thread a tad. Im excited to finally have someone back into the side that is genuinely very classy with the ball in hand. If he plays the remaining 4 games that takes him to 23 games in his first 2 years which is not a bad effort at all. Next year i think we will slowly see him spend more time in the midfield. His hardness and class is too good to be used down back.3 points
