  1. He was an absolutely freakish talent. Like a fat Ablett with a mullet. The last of the great unprofessionals.

  3. I think he's our best player this year. Apologies to Jonesy. Paul Roos on 360 tonight held back from saying Bernie should be All Australian this year, but spoke glowingly of him and his last 15 weeks of form. He also said that when we got Bernie, no one, including Paul, really had any idea that Bernie could play the run with/negating role, let alone play it this well. He said Bernie has the incredible skill of knowing which dangerous areas to deny the opposition, so even if they get 20 possessions, they're not as damaging as usual. And on the flip side hits the attacking dangerous areas when he gets the ball. Which sums up his year and style perfectly. I love the effect he seems to have had on the group too, everyone brightens up when they talk about him, Jones and Watts in particular seem to love him as much as we do.

  5. It's a simplistic view but I just checked the stats for avg scores per game and divided it by avg inside 50s per game: 1 West Coast Eagles 2 Hawthorn 3 GWS Giants 9 North Melbourne 4 Richmond 12 Melbourne 7 Adelaide Crows 5 Collingwood 16 Geelong Cats 14 Gold Coast Suns 5 Sydney Swans 11 Fremantle 17 Port Adelaide 15 Carlton 7 Western Bulldogs 10 St Kilda 18 Brisbane Lions 13 Essendon We come in 6th, scoring 47% of the time we go inside 50. Not too shabby

  8. Finally looked comfortable at the level, I liked that he took one of his big marks that he frequently was able to take at Casey as well, this is something he's really good at. Even some of his tackling, pressure acts, and little knock ons to a teammates advantage that don't necessarily show up impact-wise on the stats sheet were really pleasing. Look forward to him keeping it up for a few more senior games.

  11. Watching the replay - apart from the obvious good contributors I really liked Vanders game and while Brayshaw didn't get a lot of it he was central to many of our most important chain of possessions - he always puts the ball in the right spot. Very impressive. Harmes cameo was a gem -attacked the ball, made good decisions and has some speed.

  12. Just started watching the game vs the cats again, in the first 10 seconds Viney chases Selwood to a congested sitution and just bowls him over so he can't get the pill, then you see him just grab selwood's foot while he is on the ground and kinda pull it, purely to annoy him, then Viney somehow gets the ball and dishes it to Jones for an inside 50. Absolutely set the tone of the matchup and the game itself in the first passage of play!

  13. With all the hoopla and excitement on Hogan in his first 15 games (and he is good to watch).... he has kicked 32.14. Jako in the same number of games had kicked 78.61......What a one man show. Just so many highlights in such a short space of time. Great video from the Essendon game. FTR it was Fletchers 6th game and boy did he get a lesson from the maestro. His feat of kicking 11.8 (he should have kicked 16 plus) made a boring game interesting. With Farmer and Schwartz the most exciting players I have seen in the red & blue. Jakos last game at MFC against Hawthorn he kicked 8.1. Then developed chronic back problems. Appeared at the Bulldogs for less than a year but was a shell of his former self. You would drive 100 miles to see a showman and character like that. Long live the memories.

  14. Bernie is an example of what we have been missing for years now....Nathan Jones excepted. That is a class player who can win a match with his own individual effort when the game is there to be won. We all know what this is...Bernie's ability to kick vital goals in tight situations from either foot within or outside the 50 metre arc. You can't win matches without these players. Hopefully we have a few more coming down the track over the next few years.

  20. First it was his kicking action would make him inaccurate - myth busted. Then he can't kick 50 metres - myth busted. Now tackling... Next week it'll be his inability to play on Eddie Betts. Ricky Petterd once laid 14 inside 50 tackles, I reckon Richmond would do that trade if we threw in Terlich.

  24. I just love the fact the team is seeing the fruits of their labour. If they go out with manic pressure and intent then they can pull off unlikely wins. Bulldogs, Richmond, Collingwood & Geelong is quite a collection of scalps looking at the ladder right now (5th, 6th, 8th, 11th) and shows that we can match it with mid-tier teams when we bother to show up. It's all a learning process and they're slowly learning that effort and intensity is sometimes enough to win the game, even if your skills aren't quite up to par. Certainly makes the two Saints losses and the Bombers loss that little bit harder to swallow though. I'll be a little devo if we drop the Carlton game...

  27. Harmes is a good story in regard to recruitment and development. Seems to have been well managed by the coaching staff. Allowed to develop at Casey and now showing the benefit of waiting his time.

  28. Not often you see two players still currently on the rookie list as the last two touches in a goal. Other than maybe Bernie's third, no other goal got me psyched up more than that one. Crucial in the context of the game and he was just so stoked about it. He has an enthusiastic bounce about him that I find infectious, I wonder if it has a similar effect on his teammates. Just looks like he loves being out there and is playing accordingly.

  31. I think Grimes has the tools it's just reprogramming him following our darkest years to take the first option without second guessing himself. He deserves some time to address this and I think stepping back from co captaincy and spending some time in the VFL to 'enjoy' his footy again is part of a program to get him playing properly. He does a lot of good things but the second guessing needs to change.

  36. BLOW UP by KC from Casey The Casey Scorpions surrendered a 26 point half time lead over the Werribee Tigers and any chance it might have had of a double chance in the VFL finals on a wild and woolly day at Casey Fields. The game was strongly affected by the weather conditions with a stiff breeze blowing down the ground until three quarter time when the heavens opened and brought torrential rain, making scoring well nigh impossible. It could be argued that the gods conspired against the Scorpions because they missed out on the wind advantage in that final term and that this was a significant factor in the 39 point turn around that led to their demise by 13 points. After all, both sides were able to score seven goals when they had their respective turns of kicking with the wind in the second and third quarters. Casey also lost significant scoring power when goal kicking youngster Jayden Hunt withdrew before the game and another goal kicker in tall forward Max King came off with a hamstring injury in the third term, adding to the team's shortage of key forwards with Tim Smith's absence. To make matters worse, Dean Terlich also came off not long after King, leaving the home side with a reduced bench to deal with playing in the difficult conditions that faced them in trying to catch up in the ensuing slog. However, Casey had itself to blame for its parlous circumstances. It dominated the opening 20 minutes, despite kicking into the breeze but managed a mere four behinds to a single goal, then conceded two goals and pulled one back through Tom Muir who reaped the advantage of some good play by King. Jack Fitzpatrick was dominant in defence in the early stages taking several strong marks and outstretching his smaller opponents whilst not giving anything away when the ball hit the ground. The eight point quarter time deficit was reeled in and, with the ruck combination of Jamar and Spencer well on top, a dominant midfield led by Aiden Riley, Ben Newton and Matt Jones and new-found accuracy in front of goal, Casey dominated the second. The tables turned after half time with the Tigers nullifying the ruck advantage but the clock had ticked past seven minutes before the visitors scored their first for the quarter with the now roaring gale behind it. The wind strength at this stage was enormous ahead of the threatening rain and Werribee took full advantage despite a brief fightback when Angus Scott and Newton goaled to restore the lost lead. However, the quarter dragged on until the 36th minute and three late goals gave Werribee an 8 point lead just as the rains came tumbling down. The Scorpions players who has no doubt been expecting the advantage of the wind to help bring them home were suddenly brought down to earth with a thud. They were outplayed by the Werribee small men who ran out the game brilliantly and tackled strongly against an opposition that looked shot and simply went through the motions unable to score more than a single point in the antarctic conditions that smothered the ground. The Scorpions have now lost two vital games on end against opposition similarly placed on the ladder and their season is in danger of coming to a screeching halt. That this has occurred when it has had more AFL listed players at its disposal is worrying with several careers on the line in coming matches as they confront the top three teams in the competition in the run home. 2015 Peter Jackson VFL Casey Scorpions 1.6.12 8.7.55 10.8.68 10.9.69 Werribee Tigers 3.2.20 4.5.29 11.10.76 12.10.82 Goals Casey Scorpions King Newton 2 Muir Page Salem Scott Terlich Toumpas Werribee Tigers Porter Wood 3 Reid Sodomaco 2 Fordham Harper Best Casey Scorpions Fitzpatrick Riley Salem White Newton M Jones Werribee Tigers Hanson Daw Porter Brett McMahon Conway Statistics Rohan Bail 17 disposals 12 kicks 5 handballs 2 marks 8 tackles 81 dream team points Jack Fitzpatrick 19 disposals 11 kicks 8 handballs 10 marks 77 dream team points Mark Jamar 1 behind 14 disposals 11 kicks 3 handballs 47 hit outs 84 dream team points Matt Jones 29 disposals 25 kicks 4 handballs 5 marks 13 tackles 145 dream team points Jay Kennedy-Harris 6 disposals 3 kicks 3 handballs 9 tackles 48 dream team points Max King 2 goals 1 behind 6 disposals 5 kicks 1 handball 2 marks 1 tackle 41 dream team points Jordie McKenzie disposals kicks handballs marks tackles dream team points Ben Newton 2 goals 1 behind 21 disposals 14 kicks 7 handballs 1 mark 6 tackles 93 dream team points Aidan Riley 29 disposals 13kicks 16 handballs 2 marks 13 tackles 121 dream team points Christian Salem 1 goal 14 disposals 8 kicks 6 handballs 1 mark 5 tackles 65 dream team points Jake Spencer 12 disposals 6 kicks 6 handballs 5 marks 2 tackles 32 hit outs 84 dream team points Dean Terlich 1 goal 9 disposals 7 kicks 2 handballs 1 mark 2 tackles 39 dream team points Jimmy Toumpas 1 goal two behinds 15 disposals 7 kicks 8 handballs 3 marks 7 tackles 79 dream team points Mitch White 18 disposals 12 kicks 6 handballs 3marks 1 tackles 62 dream team points The Development League team made the most of the conditions dominating the first half and coasting to an easy 57 point win. 2015 AFL Victoria Development League Casey Scorpions 4.3.27 8.7.55 9.10.64 12.15.87 Werribee Tigers 0.5.5 0.6.6 3.6.24 4.6.30 Goals Casey Scorpions Rennie 3 Anderson 2 Fisscher Godfrey Lang Pattison Rosier Thwaites Wyatt Werribee Tigers Kolang 3 Wales Best Casey Scorpions Wilson Pattison Hannon Walmsley Rosier Anderson Werribee Tigers Taylor O'Shea Jawad Wales Robinson

  38. Well, it's only a small sample size but he looked like the Garland we know who can play on Saturday - it was his attack on the ball that stood out. Got some coaches votes too. He got a number of late fists on the ball that I noticed - possession count was good and 6 tackles. I get that he's not been great up until now but he's the type of player who can continue his form on once he has found that form - more so than a few others who can only put in a good game every now and again. He's a confidence player.

  40. Looks a likely lad - loved his tackling and contested mark. Could easily have had 2 goals. With Harmes, ANB and Stretch (as well as the more obviously highly rated Brayshaw and Petracca) we had a pretty good recruiting season for young talent - and throw in VDB as well. I suspect that many may have thought that the first three youngsters may have had to wait until 2016 to get a decent look in - surprised me and though works in progress haven't disappointed one bit.

  43. still feeling ripped about him being pinged for holding the ball when Taylor Adams fell during the tackle and fully tripped him up. We sure do get some clangers from the umps (Watts being tunnelled last week and then getting done for high contact beggars belief as well)

  44. Im all for taking a swipe at other supporters but this is a bit hypocritical.. alot of posters on here were saying during the week that they wouldn't be going to the game or to any games for the rest of the year because of our ugly game style. I would say reason why it was a low crowd was the lack of MFC supporters aswell.

  45. We should pick Fitzy to counter Brown & Petrie, but we won't, because we never pick sides to counter opposition threats. So we'll go in undersized in defence & either Brown or Petrie will do a Daniher and kick whatever-straight to be the match winner. Gawn will beat Goldie until the 20-minute mark in the 3rd quarter when he'll run out of puff. And when those two need a rest, Brown will smash Dawes and we'll get killed in the clearances. And another game we could have won thrown away at the selection table. We've been here before, many times.
