I absolutely HATE a post like this. You know why? How long are we going to simply blame the coach. At the end of his tenure the players let Daniher down. They let Bailey down. Neeld may be the exception to the rule, but Roos losing them? Give me a break. These players too often pick and choose when they are going to show up and when they don't it's the coaches fault. Ridiculous. Roos is one of the greatest coaches of the modern era and one who every player he has coached, respected. The players loved playing for him. Roos isn't the problem, it's the personnel, and if you can't see that... then nobody can help you.12 points

It's very, very bad BUT instead of wallowing in complete anger, sadness and hyperbole, let's not forget three very important points: 1 - Inc. Salem we had NINE players out of the side today. That is going to hurt any side badly. This point cannot be pushed aside. 2 - We have actually performed well in 3 of our 7 games this year. Don't let that be stricken from the record. 3 - Over the last 3 weeks, we have averaged 78 games experience per player vs our opponents averaging 121. That's 946 total games of extra experience our opponents have. It is no coincidence that these are the top 3 sides (or just about). If you did this analysis for the whole comp you would find a very close reflection of the ladder vs weekly-22-average-games. This is how it works. The miserable part about it is that we cannot as a club get the point where we are fielding sides with 120 games experience per player, because we keep delisting dead wood after a few years of non-performance and replacing them with kids. Grimes and Watts are the latest. Then those new kids end up being the dead wood themselves. Of course we are all hoping that this regime will produce a group of players that will actually get the 120 mark and be consistent contributors but at present there is little evidence of it.12 points

Roos just said on MMM that Watts asked to be dropped this week as he feels he has been letting the team down in recent weeks. He has his haters but I reckon that is pretty honourable by Jack Edit spelling11 points
-
I never understood why he was dropped toward the end of last year, he was having a fine season up forward on a team with no midfield and barely any inside 50 entries and none of those entries of any quality. He should have played every game this season, he is better than Watts and Dawes combined. He was one of our top players today vs the hawks and the sad thing is he was only in the team due to a late change. Kicks goals, can take a contested grab, is athletic and can relief ruck. He will complement Hogan well. Paul Roos needs to wake up and start picking the best teams each week, not just the best names on paper.10 points

How much did the kids of GWS lose to Hawthorn by last week?8 points

The last 8 years must have really desensitised me to these sorts of performances. I left the game disappointed obviously, but not tearing my precious hair out. My pre game prediction of a 78-point loss was optimistic unfortunately, the Hawks far too efficient moving the ball forward and in front of goal. The difference in pressure was certainly unacceptable and it's up to us to force opponents into error, but really, it was largely an unsurprising flogging of the worst 22 fielded under Roos by the reigning premiers who couldn't miss. The absolute clown comments from poons like Kennett I just roll my eyes at. Yes, this was a poor display, but after the Richmond win, every Melbourne supporter not partial to the crack pipe knew we would get done the next three weeks, and probably find it tough to get close to any of the clear best three teams in the comp. we just aren't in the same league sadly. Chin up and move forward. While we need to continue to make every post a winner at the trade and draft tables after being royally Prendergasted, today doesn't change the fact that the core group of youngsters at the club remains promising. Hogan, Viney, Salem, Tyson, McDonald, JFK, Brayshaw, Petracca, Kent, Frost and Stretch are all under 23. Yes, all clubs have good youngsters, but I'm no less confident in the people at the club to get the best out of these players now than I was at 2pm today.7 points

Going back to 2008 has nothing to do with Roos. He is 1 season and 7 games into his tenure here as coach. We were mauled today by a superior team because we were abysmal in so many areas. With the injuries we had no choice but to pick 3rd and 4th rate players as we have nothing else to choose from. Once the season is over I'm hopeful more delistings will come and we can improve upon that depth. But we can't compete with the back to back premiers with the side we fielded today, no matter who was in charge.7 points

What a ridiculous post. Yeah he may not be an elite mid but he's certainly a starting mid in any teams 22. You want to trade out our only competent midfielder in a list of 40 players? You need at least 14 players who can run through the middle and he's the only one we've got. He can't do it on his own, he was blanketed today by a hard tag - where was the chop out from his team mates? Every time the ball came to him at a stoppage he was tackles before he even had the ball - what can he do in that situation he's only one player. We lost by 105 points in case you didn't notice, I don't think that's on Jones.7 points

Rubbish. He was already good when he left Melbourne. I was gutted when he left because anyone with half a brain could tell he was going to be a champion. Didn't get on well with Danners apparently that helped him make his decision (sick dad), but would have liked MFC to do a lot more to keep him.6 points

Such a beautiful day for footy. I left at 3qtr time and the faces of other Melbourne supporters on the train said it all. Absolute defeat. And I dont mean in the win/loss sense. I mean there was nothing left. One guy have me a nod and a look and it said it all. I dont care that we played the Hawks and we had guys out. Today was the WORST ive seen live since i started going in the mid 80's - and its pretty darn close to 186 in terms of hurt. I do not know for the life of me where we go from here. I can not see us ever getting out of the cellar. We will forever be a bottom team.5 points

Chris dawes take a leaf out of cam Pedersens book. Pedersen attacks the footy, leads at the kicker and makes a presence/contest. Anyone who defends dawes is an idiot... So what he chases and pressures, he has to because his caught behind all the time. We not paying him $500k a year to chase and tackle. He's a statue, stands there and points and barking orders.. Fkn get on your bike and lead you idiot5 points

Anyone who says we didn't lack depth before the game should be rethinking it after that game. I'm not even that [censored] off. We have a C grade midfield, with older blokes that make error after error and Hawthorn will punish you like no other. Our older blokes won't run hard enough to give their team mates an option and our younger blokes (who are showing the way with their cleaner, more effective disposal and attack on the ball) don't currently have the fitness base to run out games. Tyson (clearly carrying an injury) got a lot more of it in the last and we looked a bit better. I noticed someone said in the game day thread that we need Jones and Tyson firing and it sounds obvious, but when they're not on song, we just have too many of those aforementioned holes.4 points

This club has not recovered from 186 & the whole tanking period I now wonder if it ever will. Make T Mac the Captain Tomorrow. I love Jonesy but he is not the answer The club is Dead against any pressure Thanks Schwaby you put the dagger right through this place. The jumper means nothing.4 points

Wise decision from the club. If Hogan is sore then he isn't worth the risk. Give him a rest and get him right for the Dogs. Won't make a difference to the scoreline today.4 points
