  1. I have a huge preseason planned, DA. I'm building a keg fridge on the back veranda for my homebrew and painting it Red and Blue. It'll be particularly useful for when I need to drown my sorrows (i.e. 20 minutes into Round One or following the first three catastrophic preseason injuries). I'm also training my kids up on profane language in preparation for the Round Two clash at Manuka Oval (Tom Scully Carnival of Hate). They're growing up in Queanbeyan so they already have a pretty good excellent swearing vocabulary, so I'm concentrating on grammar, context and combinations. " Nice one $cully you [censored] [censored] glass-eyed, soulless [censored]!" That kinda thing. Good times!

  3. I think we should all have the same argument about Stefan Martin that we've all already had before, saying all the same stuff as we've all said before. What do you guys reckon? It really is like Groundhog Day on this forum sometimes!

  4. It was interesting to hear that Brayshaw was only 7 days too young to be drafted last year and if he had, would of been a pick in the 30's. Funny how we're pinning our hopes on this kid being an absolute jet, whereas, had he been a week older, a club would have had him on their list as a 3rd round pick and not alot of expectation.

  8. Everyone (mostly) on this site is in the bandwagon - sitting patiently. We didn't get out when the wheels fell off, we didn't get out when the roof came off, when didn't get off when we thought it was going to start and then didn't... One left in a Tiger Dayz for some reason. That's about it IIRC.

  9. (Wrong button bloody smart phone) "THE GIANT HAS AWAKENED" Even myself I dont think I understood how bad shape the club was in. The appointment of Jackson was a godsend, then came Roos, players started to respond but unfortunately ran out of gas, introduction of quality kids but left to develop!!! (Finally). We were so poorly run b4 that there was no quick fix/turn around similar to port, so methodically step by step the whole club needed reprogramming and il name him again PETER JACKSON,U are the master. This is it guys its actually happening the bear has been poked, get ready BIG crowds at MCG . No more false dawns the club has arrived " THE GIANT HAS AWAKENED"

  12. I think we're talking a chicken and egg scenario here, lifting the draft age sees no further need for TAC Cup and would see more money going into Grass roots footy namely VFL, SANFL,WAFL This in turn would see these clubs putting more development into their zone and IMO holding these players over till they were 20years of age would not affect their development on the flipside you would see greater development towards natural footballers and the project athletes or players who some say never realise their potential would be found out before drafting, the likes of Cook, Watts, Oakley-Nicholls, Liam Jones, Lucas, Thorp, Mckernan, Strauss, Blease and numerous others would have been found out at this age after a couple of years being exposed to senior players and IMO the success rate of drafting would improve. As you say there are a few exceptions to the rule of Ballantynes, Priddis etc but the same can be said of the Wines, Judds & Selwoods who make an impact from day 1

  15. He's outside attributes are very attractive. All I want to know when it comes to Laverde is whether or not he has the desire to fight nail and tooth to win the ball when it's there to be won. If he does, then I'll be happy with the pick. I want all of our picks to have that desire. That competitive streak. It's we're we've fallen down in the past. Even JKH standing at 174 or so cm doesn't shy away when the ball is there to be won. It needs to be inherent in their game before they come to our club.

  17. We now know the news of the signing of Sandringham's James Munro who with three other Casey players is training at Melbourne -Casey quartet train with Melbourne. In addition it looks like Shannon Byrnes will be coming on board as an assistant playing coach - Dual Geelong premiership player Shannon Byrnes appointed playing assistant coach of Casey Scorpions. Great appointment. The Scorpions have re-signed power forward Tim Smith but on the flip side, two players are leaving the club:- * forward Jake Best who had a disappointing 2014 after a great debut season the year before is returning to Leongatha, and * former Demon listed player Troy Davis.

  18. I have no idea who to take - but what I do know is your description of McCartin as ready made competitive beast looks ok in an under 18 competition but what about next year in the big league ? As a midfielder I think we need "a class act; a humble, hard-working player able to cut teams up with his skill and scoring ability". That is Emma Quayles description of Jimmy Toumpas. He may well turn out to be that way but hows the description looking two years in ?? If we want versatile big man how about this guy ? " A centre half-forward who can also play key defensive post. Reads ball in the air better than most. Endurance for a big man is first class so covers lots of ground and could be groomed to replace Jonathan Brown" This was description of Lucas Cook!! ( the Brown reference is Jay Clark had him going to the Lions - if only !) So your description of McCartin well may be right - it well may wrong as well...

  20. I agree sue. similar surgeons said Clark was ok to play with screws in his foot and look how that turned out. My point I guess is I will believe the problem is fixed when he plays 20 games in 2016

  21. If you look at something long enough, you will find faults and forgot why you like that player. Jack Darling and Ollie Wines were competitive beasts. Talented but the longer you look at them, the deficiencies stood out. Darling was short. 191cm. Way too short for KPP. Also was far more developed then other kids and played bully ball. Might not translate to AFL as everyone's big and strong. + the off field the WCE peddled Ollie Wines u18's record is sensational. Again more developed and played bully ball so question marks raised. All competitive beasts who continue to improve and get better. I'm not sure why people think been developed physically early means there is little or no development left. Pat is an exciting KPP talent that needs development and his ceiling is just as high as any other kid.

  22. I want a player that is a tough mudder fooker. One that believes he should be there. Has the courage of conviction to be the best. Petracca and McCartin seem likely types here.I want other clubs to fear us. I want the alpha males in this draft crop. AFL football is a tough caper. Let's get the Demon back in Demonland!

  24. I'd rather us come to 2017 with a really strong midfield and a weak forward line than the other way around. That is guiding my thought process at the moment.

  28. Yeah good post. We need competitive beasts. JKH is a good example of that. Watts, Morton, Cook etc lacked it big time. Give me a competitor like Jack Frost (and hopefully his brother is the same). Langford at the hawks shows competitiveness can outlast other skilful attributes. Jetta for us has shown that. he competes. he loves the clinches !! We have to rely on our new recruiters who can pick players with ability and heart. underline heart.

  30. Back to the Thread! nutbean, on 07 Nov 2014 - 09:15 AM, said: I consider my views "Expert" I went for Ollie Wines over Jimmy Toumpas That's 1 zip I now go for Mc Cartin at pick 3 if Saints don't take him first! Now if we don't get him and he has an impact straight away and whoever else we grab doesn't have an impact straight away then that gives me 2 Zip So who are the 'Real Experts"?? Hnmm Remember Hogan still hasn't played and if he still continues with lingering after effects then stuffed if I want to see Pederson and Fitzy playing the key Forward roles. And If Hogan does come up , then great for us we have potentially the best possible Forward combo we have had for some time. Now that is sound logic ! The Levers and Laverde's are not top 3 plus DON'T FILL OUR MOST PRESSING NEEDS So why oh why would you consider them?? Nup recruiting is easy, if you can see the real wood for the trees! And remember don't go for twigs, go a few strong branches that will bear some fruit!

  33. And there would still be the U/20 State Carnivals and so forth - there would still be the 30 best in each state treated like the next coming of Jebus. I really think that the plusses outweigh the minuses when it comes to raising the draft age.

  34. First of all - Demonland will go into Meltdown no matter who pick at pick 3 as there are such conflicting views by the posters on here. No one will bat at eyelid at Brayshaw but I apologise in advance to our pick 3 as he will get flayed by half the posters here. I want to take you up on your logic. If you want to McCartin at pick 3 then you should not be questioning the recruiting staff on not picking Wines. Expert opinion has McCartin going in the top 3 picks by almost everyone ( tell me if I am wrong) Expert opinion in 2012 had Toumpas going in the top 4 picks and before Wines by everyone ( tell me again if I am wrong). You can't have it both ways. You select what is considered the best at the pick by the experts - McCartin and Toumpas - or you don't and then we take a Wines/Lever/Laverde. ( disclaimer - I have stated that I have no problem moving away from what the "experts" think as the likes of Wines and Bontempelli are perfect examples of the "Experts" getting it wrong)

  36. But the problem with the TAC cup is its a hybrid bastardised version of the game really. All the little kiddies in cotton wool doesnt reflect how they'll go in a 'real' game of footy and thats where all the problems associated with the great draft-lotto emanate from

  37. And "ready to go round one" is a bit of nonsense statement - the amount of draftees that come in and make a big impact season one is very small..I am not talking about some good games - I am referring to week in and week out contributors like Wines was year one. Last years draft - maybe 3 - Taylor, McDonald and Bontempelli. ( to a lesser extent Dunstan and Billings). That's out of some 60 selected.

  42. Your point? Picket Farce says we need a KPF forward with grunt, I'm pointing out that we have one. I'm not sure how many AFL games McCartin has played, but I doubt it's more than zero, correct me if I'm wrong.

  43. DC do yourself a favour and at least listen to Noel Pearsons oration at Gough's memorial. Very moving stuff and it has nothing to do with the very mundane stuff about interest rates or loans affairs, it is about people, giving the underdogs a chance and the legacy he left and the fact Gough had a go. He was able to negate the bastards like old Joh in Queensland. That is my argument, not that he didn't make mistakes but he had a bloody good go at it. As opposed to today's small men!

  44. Agree and as I have said before The midfield issues are being addressed ! We also have a better Half Back and Half Forward line to play. Can I ask this when did we last have a KPF with a bit of Mongrel?? Think probably Nieta and Schwarta! That's it So we have a chance to grab a kid who has got Mongrel in spades, Takes contested Grabs, Kicks well for goal and is agile!! PLUS HE MODELS HIS GAME ON TOM HAWKINS AND JON BROWN !! SHEEIT I'D TAKE HIM JUST FOR HIS AMBITION ALONE!! WHO ELSE IS SO BOLD!? Forget Lever and Leverde for reasons provided above! we already have enough of these already ! BUT WHAT WE DON'T HAVE IS ENOUGH TRUE KPF If we overlook this kid and someone else takes him and he makes an immediate impact Then several things will happen I will hark back to the shizen recruiting that saw Ollie Wines become an overnight sensation I will seriously question our recruiting staff and I will struggle to continue to support an administration that has got it wrong YET AGAIN!! Demonland will also go into a complete meltdown!

  45. It's not staggering. We are realigning the list after so many failed years of drafting poorly. We hardly had anyone good between the ages of 20 and 26 when Roos took over. The fact that we have brought in 9 players (plus Jetta) onto the primary list with AFL experience is a good thing if you don't want to wait for those draft picks to come good (if they do come good). I think we will delist a contracted player and rookie them and use ND40 but I don't hold much hope for that pick.

  48. With the recruitment of Newton, in bringing in Frost, Lumumba, Newton and Garlett, we have used the trade and FA period to strengthen every line. Bringing in Newton gives us another left footer to play in midfield alongside Salem and Viney. If we add Brayshaw, who is very good off both feet (predominantly kicks left footed in general play, right when lining up for goal), that’s a nice little group that we can bring through in a similar vein to Hawthorn. The other plus in the Newton signing is that it helps make up for our missteps in the 2010 draft. Whilst we missed with the Cook pick, we have now added Michie and Newton in addition to Howe and McDonald who have established themselves as regular senior players. If Michie and Newton become regular contributors, our list profile all of a sudden looks a hell of a lot better. Especially if the majority of our picks from 2012 (Toumpas, Viney, Kent, Barry) 2013 (Hogan, Salem, JKH, Hunt) & 2014 (Stretch + picks 2 &3) are developed well under the current regime. 2011 was a complete write off for us, but at least we’ve ended up with Tyson and now Frost from that draft year.
